Their mother was corrupted with the Shade from birth, the taint of it woven in deep with every fibre of her being. These children are the first born after it was carved out of her.

Their mother lets them play at her feet, often beckoning them to come and see what she is working with. She looks at them like experiments-- curiosities, not children. Their father carries them of his back, hums low off-tune songs to lull them to sleep as he follows his patrol.

Áed paints protective runes over the homes of his allies and companions, tailors each spell to their wishes and whims and brings it to life with a careful sweep of his fingers over stonework. Unless, of course, someone has been... unpleasant. Then he smiles, takes their request without comment and twists it, brings about despair and pain until they've rightly learned their lesson.

People learn quickly to be kind to Áed.
