Lav remembers her coli-fighter parents as friendly blurs. Their deaths, while sad, didn't come as a surprise. Lav's upbringing was a collective effort, her whole home clan pitching in to offer food, lodging, advice. She began to see flashes of her future around the age of five. Covering her seeing eyes made her futuresight stronger; with practice, she learned to deploy it at will. This power comes with caveats, though: it only extends a few months out, and any small move in the present can wildly alter her future. Oh, and the migraines are brutal. It was this futuresight that showed Lav a safe path through the Tabemono woods. This is how she uses it now that she's settled here, and a fine-tuned GPS it is. Accurate predictions of weather shifts and beastclan convoy routes make Lav an ideal mail carrier. Once a happy international traveler, lately Lav has preferred to stick close to home. After marrying Mi, she joined a network of inter-territory carriers that allow her to limit her range to Nature clans. Of her gossipy spouse, Lav likes to say, "she keeps me honest." It's a joke between them, a nod to the knowledge they each have (but shouldn't). Lav knew Mi was the one from the moment they met. It was Mi, though, who made a move that summer afternoon, clutching the peach they'd just fought over. "Uh. Y'know. You're cute," she'd huffed. "Got plans tonight?" This was decidedly not the meet-cute Lav had foreseen months earlier. Still, Lav replied, "I don't." And so it began. Their road to romance was littered with bad timing and second chances. "Don't think," Mi once growled in Lav's ear, "for one second, that you've got everything figured out." Loving Mi reminds Lav that she sees options, not absolutes—and on good days, Mi will admit sometimes Lav does know better. This comfortable middle ground is where they've stayed, bickering happily. |
