At a young age, Yatema was exalted in service to the Plaguebringer. However, while most dragons find exaltation to be the highest honor, she did not. The mirror was unsatisfied, feeling that there was much more she could have accomplished on the surface of Sornieth, much more she could have seen, many more places that she could have explored. And so, she set out to do what very few dragons have ever tried, let alone accomplish: escaping exaltation all on her own, with not a single soul on the face of the planet calling her back. With no connections to call her back to them, freeing herself of her service to the Plaguebringer was a brutal and painful process. When she finally found a way to escape the realm of the gods, she was left to hurdle through the sky back to the surface of Sornieth and crash into the ground, leaving a smoldering crater. Within it, Yatema burned and her flesh nearly melted away. Yet, she did not die. After days of agony, she stumbled upon some scavenged fabric, and suddenly her mind was clear. Something within her clicked: she needed to stitch herself back together. Being in the service and presence of a god for such an extended period of time leaves a mark upon a dragon. And if they somehow manage to return to Sornieth bearing such a mark, it quickly becomes clear how the divine has changed them. In Yatema's case, she became a necromancer of no equal: The Lifestitcher. Once she sewed and stitched herself back to health, she set out on a pilgrimage across the planet, using her abilities to bring the near dead, and in some cases even the freshly dead, back from the grave, one patch at a time. Two such dragons that she helped were a pair of abberations so badly ripped apart that Yatema worked tirelessly on them for nearly a week straight, sewing their entire bodies back into shape. These two instantly wanted to join The Lifestitcher on her quest, and even renamed themselves in her honor: Patches and Stitches. |
Yatema found the Starswept Clan by following whispered rumors of an area within Arcane territory shrouded in an Eternal Night. Something about it made the mirror's heart twinge. She was needed there. Why? She wasn't entirely sure. But the call was too great to ignore. So off she trekked to the border of the Starwood Strand and Crystalline Reaches, where she walked right into the center of the clan. At first she was understandably met with hostility, emerging from the darkness with stitched up skin and two patched up abberations behind her. But then the skeletal markings upon her body caught the eye of Ladora, the clan's heir. Immediately an emergency council was called, where Yatema's motives for seeking them out were combed over extensively. But eventually, The Starswept introduced her to Lyra, Bringer of Night--the source of the Eternal Night and another Fallen Exalt. Meeting Lyra was a surreal and incredible experience for The Lifestitcher. Suddenly, neither of the two were alone in the world, the only dragons that either knew of that had fled their exaltation. All at once, Yatema decided that she would protect her Fallen sibling, and strive to help this Clan that had taken them in to become a safe haven for others that may be out there like them. Within days, The Sunset Patrol had been established, with Yatema at the head. She began to patrol the edge of Lyra's night, keeping threats at bay, letting trustworthy travelers pass, and keeping a keen eye out for other Fallen. |
