they lost a star and are trying to recover it. perhaps it fell down on this planet here . . . ?
smokesnort isn't much. residents are grouchy, suspicious of newcomers, but if you don't prod into their business, you'll be . . . tolerated. if you lose your purse, well, you should've been more careful now shouldn't you. kuiper can live with that! they're more than content to sit back in a pub and keep their jaw shut during the day, then slip out once dusk falls. anyone that spies them leaving, soon loses sight of their form darting up into the star-dusted sky (beyond the layers of smog, of course)
- their relationship with the shade is more casual. more acquaintances than anything else, just run into each other a few times and give a polite nod. probably shade heard they were going down to sornieth and said hey, could you take a look around for me? kuiper said sure man no problem. came down and learned, oh hey, actually Yes problem,
- so they may be like. subtly taking notes or whatever and passing on rumors/stories to the shade. nothing particularly malicious.........that they think, anyway
- probably the residents of sornieth have a different perspective on that :p
- said lost star is uhhh in interlude so kuiper's fair off the mark (at least they got the right planet...). got led astray by a false trail of rumors set by gaoler seekers, who're looking to trap kuiper at smokesnort!
- part of a constellation? dark matter blob? liked to float by some (relatively) nearby stars and noticed one day one was gone, so went looking for it. space dust/random bits of rock that accumulated into a more solid form (smoke and breakup)
- decorates in light flight apparel to try and hide their connections to the shade lmao. not too successful there, buddy
- ungenuine, false, insincere little thing. cowardly and paranoid and would throw you under a moving bus to save their own scales
- not a good or dedicated liar so much as just will say whatever they think you want to hear/what will not get them in trouble/what the situation seems to call for. whatever they say, their heart's not in it, they don't believe it, they only want to avoid conflict
- "feels bad" about being untrustworthy/getting folks hurt in the way of "oh no that makes me look bad" or inconveniences them. they could, maybe, grow a moral backbone . . . if they had the time/space for it yknow. when you're on the run, when you're frequently in danger, your own survival comes first
