Hiems was raised in the lap of luxury. She was the only daughter of the queen of a powerful clan, and was next in line for the throne. She spent her days learning about etiquette, politics, economics, and other topics to become a strong queen. She also trained for hours in the training grounds, honing her magic and skills with the bow, aiming to become strong enough to protect her clan. Unfortunately, the rest of the clan did not lead good lives. Living and working conditions were bad, and the clan have had enough. They revolted against the royal family, injuring the princess and causing her to lose vision in one of her eyes. Hiems’ usually kind and generous parents turned harsh and ableist in an instant, insisting that a princess with only one eye was not fit to rule. In that moment Hiems glimpsed how her parents had treated the residents of the clan, and she was cast out. Left to die on her own, her injured eye caused pain so strong she became somewhat mad. Desperate for relief from the pain, she clawed her way through Light territory before being found by Ruby. She took her back to the clan, where healers gave her medicine to ease the pain and dressed the wound.

Hiems awoke, her vision blurred and weakened but still able to see. She thanked them profusely, placing herself in the clan’s debt forever. Showing aptitude to be a great leader, Ruby and Cirmiaan crowned her as the Queen of Winter. Hiems now rules from her grand ice palace, with its clear and polished doors wide open to all those who need a sanctuary.

Her power as the Sage of the Sky allows her to control the temperature and weather around her. She carries her secret stone on a headband.
