The seas remain silent. . . where is their voice?

______To a normal drake, there may seem to be nothing behind his glossy eyes as he watches them quietly. They look blurry, thoughtless, like nothing too important must be floating around in that mind of his. He’ll stand to assist anyone, perhaps instruct the more nuanced around him, and certainly would talk one’s ear off just to make sure they understood correctly. But in the blink of an eye, maybe his, he’d change that silent demeanor almost instantly.

The tides churn. . . my heart beats with it. . . slowly. . . .

______The town prophet commonly attends the council with the patience for a turtle, attentive to every word muttered and every letter articulated. There is meaning behind one’s words, he’d advise; that’s why he tends to speak very much. Do people really listen to his though? Some, maybe; the jester certainly won’t. The only other drake it’d matter to doesn’t seem to either; then how does everyone else listen without a second thought?

I can’t hear the quiet whispers. . . speak to me. . . .

______Poseidon, referred to as Donnie by those like the jester, tends to spend his long moments of time near the little patches of water that seem to spot the surroundings of the knoll. Even someone as outgoing as him needs a little time to himself, right? Usually, he’d tell someone he’d be off “to the waters”, but always confused them when he didn’t follow the fishers to the docks.

Frustrating. . . I had done nothing to be ghosted by the seas itself. . .

______Because he owns his own spot in the council, high respect passes to him frequently. With a strong voice, but a talkative one, he always aids in the meetings that fill the enormous building centered in the village. His head remains strong with advice and full of wise words that his fellows deeply appreciate. Not much to say about him otherwise, perhaps beside the fact he seems unable to take any critique himself.

This is getting ridiculous. . . I’m being played like a fool,
aren’t I. . ?

______Don’t worry, it’s easy to get used to the scoffing and the partially-egoistic behaviour he emits. It’s not very common, but he’ll tend to say things like “That’s preposterous to think of me like that!” or, “I believe I know myself well.” The regular townsfolk don’t hear those often though, most likely because he can speak about things both sides would agree on with them, versus the almost-constant bickering between him and the rest of his colleagues. It can become quite heated at times.

______Uselessness begins to echo in his non-existent ears. It’s a sound louder than the previous attempts of foreseeing in the past few weeks. Little by little have they been growing quieter to him, and the longer it continues, more confusion settles into his mind like dust.

______Has his wisdom passed? No, it hasn’t. Has his knowledge depleted? No, it hasn’t. Has his strength decayed away? No, it hasn’t. None of his good traits have diminished; nothing important is gone. How could it have possibly vanished if his fortune hasn’t struck bad luck?

______Has he upset the seas themselves? Has he spurred an anger deep within its catacombs? If he had truly done something, where is his explanation for it? Hasn’t he earned that at least? Why cause something so inexplicable?

______It’s been difficult hiding such a weakness from the other twelve; it’s not like they need to know anyway. Portia’s certainly been one to give him a curious side-eye, but even worse, Daphne had inquired about it as well. She’s always been one to notice the particular action of those who hide things. Despite being her son, he’s sat across the table from her ever since.

______You know what? It’ll hopefully fix itself eventually. Maybe it’s just a random dry spell of some sort; Poseidon has never experienced something so odd, and has, on numerous occasions, questioned if it’s related to the disappearance of the Water god. Only common sense, right? Using water as a medium is usually the only way he’s able to see further anyway.

______Finally, things will get back to normal. And I won’t need to hide anything about it anymore.

______I just don’t want to worry anyone, that’s all.
