Leigh

To most dragons of Quilrarth Clan, Leigh's origins are a mystery. She came into the tavern one day with a cold expression and shifting eyes. Her very aura made the locals and visitors alike uncomfortable. What made her decide to stay in the clan long-term is unclear, but she now resides in the mage's tower alongside the others. One of the only dragons she's shared her story with is Sahara, one of the most ruthless soldiers in the clan, which says a lot about Leigh's choice in company.

Leigh originally grew up in a Plague clan, where she and her family were constantly pressured to engage in combat. Her clan was especially aggressive, even for a Plague clan, and had an exceptional military. By the time she was sent off alongside her siblings to fight for the Plaguebringer, she had a sense of loyalty forcibly engrained in her from her rough upbringing. She didn't question the orders given to her—not when she was told to attack, not when she was given the role of commander, and not when she was told to completely wipe out an enemy army.

She was a soldier, completely and entirely. She led her fleet into battle, felling hundreds of dragons in combat. Much of the death was at her own claws. She knew only three things: obey, conquer, and kill.

After years of fighting, she came across a mage, who cast an invincibility spell on himself. He spoke to her, telling her that if she didn't end this reign of terror, she would pay the price in her own blood. She didn't care what he had to say. He warned her one last time—if she killed one more dragon in her lifetime, she would be given a curse she wouldn't be able to ignore. He told her that she'd never be able to trust herself around her loved ones ever again. He lowered his defenses, his energy waning, and Leigh's claws made swift work of him, continuing to wipe out the clan her and her army were told to destroy.

Days later, she felt weaker than she ever had before. Medics were clueless as to what ailment she was suffering from, but one of her army's mages specialized in creating rings that would be able to tell them exactly what was going on. She placed one of these rings on Leigh's finger, and red smoke poured out of it, swirling around the dragons nearby. The fog twisted and formed a Skydancer shape, looking much like Leigh. A gash formed in the Skydancer's arm, and smoke poured out of the inside of the figure, until the shape was hollow. The smoke dispersed, although drifts of it remained coiled around Leigh.

The mage interpreted the smoke with a solemn expression. A vampiric curse had been placed upon Leigh. The curse would continue to drain Leigh's blood from her body, as if eating it from within. The only way she could prevent a death by blood loss would be to consume a diet of blood. She was first given the blood of animals, which worked, but left her craving more. She was given dragon's blood, and found it extremely satiating.

Although she now knew how to survive, her ailment led to her being exiled from the army she had been a part of for so long. She took to skipping between clans and taverns for years, usually getting driven out by the locals when they learned of her curse. Dragons all across Sornieth had grown to fear her. Ironically, as her taste for blood grew, her desire for violence dissipated. She felt rather lost, not knowing what to do with her life. She started training herself in the art of magic, living along in the woods for years, preying on animals for the blood she so desperately needed.

She created a goblet that could supply her with blood, and found a way to enchant her ring to tell her when she needed to drink, but she still found herself craving the blood of dragons. She decided to travel out and look for dragons to drink from.

She took back up her hobby of tavern-hopping, trying her best to drink the blood from dragons in ways that wouldn't kill them, before running far away to avoid local guards. She came across Quilrarth Clan in her travels, and managed to lead an Obelisk dragon to a remote location, cornering her. But even as Leigh bit into Persephone's scales, the Obelisk didn't fight. She only had a betrayed expression, and even asked Leigh why she was doing this. After drinking her fill, Leigh explained the curse to her shamefully. Leigh had never had a dragon react like this. Persephone's eyes told Leigh something that she had started to doubt about herself for quite some time—that she wasn't a monster.

They made a pact that night. Persephone would try her best to help Leigh find a way to break the curse. Leigh was welcome to stay in the clan as long as she didn't hurt innocent dragons anymore. Persephone would donate her own blood to use to refill Leigh's goblet when necessary.

Now Leigh tries her best to recover from her past and become a mage, continuing her attempts to break the curse. She occasionally helps the healers, specializing in blood magic which comes in handy in cases of severe physical injuries. Mostly she keeps to herself, a bit unwelcoming to strangers or newcomers.
