TOPIC | Star Watch Haven Stories
Welcome! If you are reading this, welcome to the stories page. This is just a sub tab for the Star Watch Haven Lore forum. Here is where I will write short stories for characters in my clan that are too big to be in their bio. Hope you enjoy reading these! (Please do not add any comments to this page. It is only for my stories/lore. If you want to share appreciation comments, you can pm me or post them under my profile page! Or go and like the dragons that these stories are about!) Below, there are shelves. These are dedicated to each dragon. Since the stories are posted in no particular order, you can use these book shelves to get right to the stories! Each single book is a single chapter. The decorations on the end of the shelves won't lead anywhere and aren't clickable. They are just to make the shelves more unique to each character. The bottom shelf is for "Smaller Character Stories". These are characters that will only get one or two chapters, but not full on stories focused fully around them. --------------------- Archivist and Watcher's Stories (Echoes of the Exiled) Ashen Blaze's Stories Assassin's Stories (Veins of Deception) Generosity's Stories (The Blossom and the Blight) Fern's Stories Smaller Character Stories PingList This pinglist was added on 6/16/24 and will now be pinged whenever there is a new story. Chapter 1
The Hunt

The trek through the woods was miserable. Rain patters down around, sizzling on impact with scales. The damp grass behind the walking dragon was scorched to ash. But the weather didn't slow their mission. Moving their talons up to their necklace, AshenBlaze flicked open their compass's lid, looking to where the arrow was pointing.

North, NorthWest.

The dial of the compass was wavering a little with the strength of the signal. Closing in on the source of the magic. A monster...

Ashen growled and shut the compass at the thought, dark eyes turning upwards to the unfamiliar forests again. This place was nothing like home but the mission was more important. So, they continued to journey through grass, over rock, and under log.

"Run all you want, Fog... I'll find you and sear you out of this world."

But, it was better than being in some of the more miserable lands out there. So Fog turned back around, padding further into the dark cave. Stone pillars had started to be carved out, but the clan leader had decided the cave was too dangerous to make part of their home, so it had never been finished. None the less, Fog found it as a quiet refuge from the hustle and bustle of clan life. At least, that was until she heard a voice behind her... "Fog..." It was a slow hiss, sending a chill down Fog's spine despite the heat wafting into the cave. Turning slowly, her emerald gaze landed on a tall dragon. Their muscles rippled as they stalked into the cave, another wave of heat coming off their skin. A monster, like herself. "Who are you?" Fog questioned, cautious as they sized each other up. Clicking their compass closed, the dragon smirked slowly,"Someone sent to hunt you down." Ashen Blaze could tell the other monster was on edge. Despite the rumors of how deadly the fog shifters were, this one seemed to be losing it's flame and letting friendship weaken it's rage. But despite that, maybe there could be other uses for the fog shifter. A soft echo sounded through the cave as Ashen's claws clicked on the stone floor, approaching the other. "Fog Flair- monster made of rage but hiding from the world. I was sent here to kill you, but I propose another deal." "A deal?" Fog raised an eyebrow, wings shifting a little as the other dragon invaded her space. Continuing to walk in circles around the other, Ashen elaborated,"You'll listen to everything I tell you to do, and follow orders without question. Or- I'll snuff out your flame you here and now." It was simple really. There was quiet for a moment, but really- what options did Fog Flair have? Lowering her gaze slowly, she sighed before muttering,"Not giving me much of a choice." Ashen felt a smirk cross their face as they stopped beside the other. "Perfect."

All eyes turned upwards to the sky as a looming darkness approached. It couldn't be! The darkness had found them! His breath quickened as he looked around, spotting StarLight. She was frozen in fear... holding onto the clan's rune. DuskFall glanced back up at the darkness before turning, rushing to StarLight. He grabbed the rune before taking off into the sky. "Dusk!" He could hear her yelling after him but he kept going. Up, Up, Up- Towards the darkness in the sky. Until finally- Everything around him was dark... "What's the matter, DuskFall?" A voice echoed in the pitch black. DuskFall tried to look around, but couldn't see anyone. "I- Nothing! I just-" "Hey, Nah~ I get it. You want to get back back to your weekly adventures. Get back to your simple coliseum missions with StarLight, mastering skills, and delivering scrolls to the Arcanist. Right?" DuskFall paused before nodding his head,"Yeah. Yeah, actually! That's exactly what I wanna-" The voice cut him off. "But we cant! Not after all we've seen. All we know and all we don't. Right friend?" "You're not my friend!" DuskFall hissed, holding the rune closer to himself,"You're not me!" "Sure I am!" A smile emerged from the dark before the blackness took shape into an inky form, looking all to similar to DuskFall. "I'm your best friend! Well- closest at least. I know more about you than you'll even admit. To yourself... or to others." DuskFall scrambled back in this empty void, his breath picking up. "Yo- where you going, Dusk?" "You're not real! You're just the darkness trying to get into my head!" DuskFall snarled "Tell me, what do you think we are. Honestly, cause I've been dying to hear us say it. Out Loud." "What kind of question is that?" DuskFall hissed, glancing down to the rune in his claws,"I'm just- I'm just me. The right hand dragon to StarLight. A regular dragon who just happens to have the powers of the stars in his claws. No big deal." "You mean- these powers?" The copy cat grinned before glowing runes appeared around him, blasting the small fae. DuskFall hardly had any time to react as he was sent flying backwards, having to open his wings to slow himself enough to dodge the next oncoming attacks. The copycat was relentless though, continuing to attack while laughing,"Are you serious? You really think you are some special dragon here to save everyone?! You can't remember where you came from, and you got all this power, and you never once thought to use it!" "We help others! I mean- I help others! It's what I do!" "Are you sure about that? Last I checked, this all happened because of us." "No- No it..." DuskFall felt his own posture sag before that familiar voice rang out again. "Dusk Fall!" StarLight? He glanced back up to this- this copy cat, then down at the rune one last time. "Enough! I've never let anyone dictate my destiny before, and I'm not going to start now! I can't change who I was yesterday, or in a past life, or one hundred life times ago! We live with the choices we've made. But what matters is the choices I make right now!" Dusk lifted the rune, watching it start to shine brightly before it expanded, creating a spell ring around himself. "Only I can decide who I am, and what I do with the power I have. And I won't let some darkness bully me or my clan a second longer!" The circles clicked into place, before a blast of energy fired off. StarLight rushed through the ash and smoke, coughing as she climbed the hill's edge. There, in a crater, lie their clan's broken rune. She rushed down to it. Stumbling, she picked it up in her claws and looked up to the now clearing skies. "DuskFall..."

Prologue

DuskFall rushed outside with the other dragons, foot steps drumming on the ground as panic spread.

Until finally-

Everything around him was dark...

"What's the matter, DuskFall?"

A voice echoed in the pitch black. DuskFall tried to look around, but couldn't see anyone. "I- Nothing! I just-"

"Hey, Nah~ I get it. You want to get back back to your weekly adventures. Get back to your simple coliseum missions with StarLight, mastering skills, and delivering scrolls to the Arcanist. Right?"

DuskFall paused before nodding his head,"Yeah. Yeah, actually! That's exactly what I wanna-"

The voice cut him off. "But we cant! Not after all we've seen. All we know and all we don't. Right friend?"

Characters: Generosity Dragon ID: #93495444 Chapter 1 Leaving Home ---------------- "I'll be fine, mom!" Generosity smiled as she packed her bag with some food that she could take on her trip. Her mom was pacing the floor and mumbling worriedly, while the larger imperial- her father- was standing by the door. "Are you sure you will be alright?" Her mom asked once more,"You know how it is down there..." Generosity refrained from a laugh and instead nodded,"I'll be just fine mom. The plague flight isn't that bad." Sure, they had all heard the horror stories after the armistice had fallen apart, but that had been a while ago! Things were never going to get better if they didn't try. That's why she was finally going to travel to the Scarred Wasteland. In all her travels, she had avoided the icky looking lands for the most part. But maybe there was new medicine or animals there! More creatures she could help! "As long as you stay safe." Her father grumbled in his rough voice, glancing around at all her pets. "I'll be so safe dad! The most safe I've ever been." She promised, grinning as she picked up her mainecoon,"Isn't that right Muffin?" Muffin, one of her many cats, meowed in response. She laughed and set them down, looking back to her parents,"You know what to do, right? Muffin and Carmel need to be fed with the cat food from the brown bag. Smoky needs to have the oat hay, and a dust bath every day! And Melon just needs some bird seed. And-" "We've got it, dear." Her dad cut her off, walking over to gently hug her. Her mom quickly joined the hug,"Please, come back home soon. We love you so much!" "I love you both too." She hugged them back tight before letting go, picking up her bag, and putting it on. Petting her pets one more time, she then headed outside and opened her wings. With one strong push she was up into the air. Glancing back, she waved goodbye to her parents, who were watching from the door. And then, she was off. Passing over the small bridge by the river, she soared over the dark lands of the Tangled Wood, heading towards the red lands of the Scarred WasteLand. Sure, they had all heard the horror stories after the armistice had fallen apart, but that had been a while ago!

The most safe I've ever been." She promised, grinning as she picked up her mainecoon,"Isn't that right Muffin?"

Muffin, one of her many cats, meowed in response.

She laughed and set them down, looking back to her parents,"You know what to do, right? Muffin and Carmel need to be fed with the cat food from the brown bag. Smoky needs to have the oat hay, and a dust bath every day! And Melon just needs some bird seed. And-"

"We've got it, dear." Her dad cut her off, walking over to gently hug her. Her mom quickly joined the hug,"Please, come back home soon. We love you so much!"

"I love you both too." She hugged them back tight before letting go, picking up her bag, and putting it on.

The Border

The gentle breeze of the wind started to grow hot as the red, meaty land of the border came into view. Thorny black brambles clashed with large bone spikes that rose from the ground.

Chapter 2
The Streets of RotRock Rim

After what seemed like forever, the walk across the lone landscape finally came upon the large crest of the Rot Rock Rim. The massive structure rose from the flat landscape in a sudden upturn. For those unfamiliar, there would seem to be no entrance. But Assassin knew the lands well.

The tangled mass of branches, roots, and slime moved slowly while she stepped closer. Waiting for a moment, the mass opened up to a small, thorny tunnel. Assassin grunted and stepped into the shade of the Rot Rock. The passage was narrow. Nearly claustrophobic. But Assassin kept moving forward, talons stepping over branches that threatened to trip unsuspecting dragons.

And finally, the small tunnel opened up. The branches of strange life still hung about, no longer compact. Built into the slowly moving thickets were buildings. Small towns stuffed into any crevice they could reach. Isolated at first, but over time they had melded into one town, just like how the bushes and brambles had melded into one giant shelter. Carts moved about the streets. Though, they were not really set paths. More so trails that were walked so much that the thicket didn't have time to retake it. The orange tinted light of the sky would cut through in small patches as the thicket would open up briefly before closing once more, making times of light uncertain. The dragons didn't seem bothered by it though, rushing about their own business through the marketplace.

Assassin's tail flicked as she left the entrance and headed into the bustling crowd. Chatter filled the air, providing a stark contrast to her trek across the silent wastelands. Wings bumped and voices scolded any who touched the others. Assassin moved quickly through the other dragons though, her enhancements making it easy to slip through the crowd.

Breaching to the other side of the marketplace, dragons called after her.

"Hey! Hey! Why not buy some new gear!"
"Potions! Get your potions!"
"Unseen familiars here! Get your pets!"

She rolled her eyes at how the traders always tried to get in other's faces. Always trying to sell their stuff that no one wanted. It was annoying, but she paid their calls no mind as she continued on her way. Past the market place lied the quieter part of the town. The homes. Buildings made out of the very brambles that made up the RotRock. They were bent and twisted and woven into structures that hung from the thicket, built into every surface. These were not the place she was looking for, passing by the homes peacefully.

As she went, the sun light started to spill in more. The branches and roots started to grow less here. A toxic smell had also started to drift through the air, though the source soon became clear. The thicket opened up to show a large gorge that split the town away from the Wyrmwound. A boiling pot of orange swirling liquid that threatened to spill over the edges of the stone. Very few homes could be seen on the edge. Dragons that dared live to close, but profited from anything they could get out of the Wyrmwound.

Assassin's eyes narrowed as she cranked up her breather over her face a few more notches just to make sure the toxic fumes wouldn't get to her. And then she jumped off the edge, sliding down the gorge to start her way towards the edge of the Wyrmwound. Towards one of the houses...

Characters: Generosity and Karma Dragon IDs: #93495444 and #92223037 Chapter 3 First Meeting ------------ "I wouldn't touch that if I was you." The voice startled the pearlcatcher, and she jumped back from the pustule to look around quickly to find out where the sound had come from. It didn't take her to long to locate the source of the voice. Standing on one of the rotten branches of the large tree was a tall imperial. His scales were a swirl of white and black, orange splattered over his wings like a mural of the sunset. If one looked close enough, they could see long scars trailed over the imperial's body. Jewelry hung from his neck, complimenting the fiery red eyes staring down at her. "I- I'm sorry?" Generosity found her voice after a moment, putting her notebook back into her bag. The imperial narrowed his eyes a bit. His large wings opened, and with one powerful flap he was in the air, landing on the ground in front of her with a heavy thud. "Are you a fool? Pierce that pustule and you'll get covered in diseased fluid. Which, frankly, I don't think you can handle." Glancing the pearlcatcher up and down, it was clear she wasn't from here. Speaking of which,"What kind of death wish do you have if you really travelled all this way to our lands?" His tone was hostile towards the outsider. "I came here to learn about these lands, and the dragons that reside here." Generosity explained, holding her talons out to him to offer a handshake,"My name is Generosity." Glancing down to the handshake that was offered, he did not try to reciprocate the action. But at least he did respond. "I am Karma. One of the guards of the Seedscar." His voice rumbled with a slight growl, his expression seeming to show he was debating something. And after a moment Karma came to his own conclusion. "You're to much of a risk to let go. Come with me." Turning, he opened his wings again to take off. Generosity tilted her head slightly. Glancing back to the nearby border, she hesitated. Really, she could just go right now. Head back home where it was safe and never come back. But- This is what she was here for. To learn about this land and the dragons that called it home. "OI!" Karma's voice snapped at her, bringing her out of her own thoughts. "Coming!" She opened her wings and took off after him, following up towards the large tree that was slowly being rotted away. Landing on a wooden platform, Generosity glanced over the view from so high up. From below the tree hadn't looked so tall. But from up here she could see over the flat land. Long stretching desert-like lands with bone pillars and fleshy veins. To the left, she could see a large structure far off. It seemed to have some sort of orange glow coming up from it, but from this distance it was to hard to see what it was exactly. Further past that, the haze of heat made it hard to see the large skull that sat rooted in the earth. And to the right, large yellow and green gooey pillars rose closer by. Green pools of liquid bubbled beneath it. The place just gave off a bad vibe. "Keep moving." Karma grunted, snapping her out of her daze once more. She rushed to keep by the imperial's side, cautiously asking,"So, you guys... like... living here?" Not that the place was bad! It just seemed- ughh- deadly? Nothing like back at home. "Of course we do! What kind of question is that?" He paused to look down at her with a raised eyebrow. "Oh. Well- uh.." She had to think how to explain it,"It's just- back home everything is so green and alive. Flowers and animals and such! This place just seems so violent?" He stared down at her before grunting a little bit and looking straight again,"You nature flight dragons never understand. To worried about what is on the surface. Look past what you see and you'll understand." With that, he continued walking. Leaving the landing platform, they entered into a large room with other dragons bustling in and out. All of them seemed to wield some sort of weapon or magical item. Gazes quickly turned over when they started to notice a nature dragon there, growls echoing around the room. Generosity gulped nervously and stuck close to Karma. The imperial seemed unbothered and stopped as another imperial landed in front of them with a thud. "Karma!" This imperial's voice was louder and stern,"What is the meaning of this pathetic dragon you've brought before us?" The older imperial's dark red eyes scowled down at Generosity, judging silently. "Commander." Karma dipped his head just slightly before lifting it back up once more,"I found her on the border. She claims she arrived here to... learn about us and our land." Glancing to the pearlcatcher for a moment, Karma stated,"I did not think it wise to let her go, but also did not feel she was a big enough threat to exterminate." Another growl rumbled in the Commander's throat again as he stared down at Generosity. This was unprecedented. A nature dragon had not been in these lands in eons. And yet, here was this tiny pearlcatcher cowering in their meeting room. Pitiful, and yet here to learn of their culture. After a moment he huffed and looked back to Karma,"Take her to the room. We'll hold her until we can get word with Captian Eki." Karma nodded and gestured for her to follow once more. Leading the way past the growling dragons, they made it to one of the hallways. It was short and lead to some steps that climbed even further up the towering tree. "So, who were all those dragons?" Generosity asked as they climbed. "That was Commander ScatterShot and dragons of the Boneguard army." Karma replied calmly,"We are in order to keep this place safe and in control." "In control?" She questioned but didn't have more time for answers as they reached the top of the stairs. Up here, there was only one room. Opening the door, they stepped inside. It was a decent sized room with- plants? The room was decorated with leaves and dried flowers, colors faded with time but roots still growing ever more. It was surprise. They were a bit wilted on the edges of their leaves but given the time and place they were growing in, it was to be expected. And yet it was plants none the less. "Is this-?" Karma nodded before she even finished her question,"This is the room for the Viridian Embassy. Or at least, it was. The last one to be here was Liefa, Druid of the Viridian Labyrinth and Ambassador to the Scarred Wasteland. That was a long time ago though." After the battle, the First Seed had managed to be contained. But it's effects were still prominent. Mages of the Bone Guard had to keep it in check so it wouldn't over grow. It's power still pulsed underground, keeping the plants in this room alive despite the ages they'd been here. "You'll be staying here until they decide what to do with you." Karma sighed before adding on,"I need to check your bag." After all, they couldn't risk another deadly weapon being unleashed. Generosity complied and took her bag off to give it to him so he could look through it. It only took him a few moments since she didn't have much. A notebook and pencil, some dried oat bars, some empty vials, and a few photos of her mom and dad. Once clear, Karma gave her the bag back and shuffled over to the doorway,"Try to get some rest. I'll be back soon to check on you. Don't do anything foolish." Generosity wasn't quite sure if that last part was a threat or a request, but she didn't have time to ask as Karma left, shutting the door behind himself. She sighed and went over to the old bed, shaking the dust off the blanket and settling down. This first step into the land had been a shaky one, but at least she hadn't been attacked. So she went to sleep to get some rest for the long days ahead. ------------- ------------- Karma

A Broken Past

Early dawn broke over the horizon, the soft light hitting the observatory that sat on top of the cliffside. As the morning birds started to wake up and chirp, soft claw clicks sounded across the tile floors inside the building. After a moment one of the doors slowly creaked open.

Archivist turned their gaze away from their morning work, looking to the pearlcatcher that had entered. The smaller dragon had resided here first before Archivist had arrived but had welcomed them in with open wings. Over time, Archivist had become more accustomed to the observatory caretaker.

Archivist felt something swell in their chest and they nodded after a moment, looking back to the pearlcatcher,"Thank you."

With this, Archivist could finally get to work...
