Hi everyone! You may remember seeing my post from a couple days ago where I made a survey about FR player habits, preferences, and goals. It got almost 300 responses so I was able to make a really in-depth analysis on the data and what I learned from it.
You can find all the responses and form-generated charts
here and the spreadsheet with all the responses and charts I made
here.
I've said it a lot but thank you so much to everyone who filled out the survey and gave me feedback. I worked incredibly hard on this analysis so I really hope it's as interesting to you all as it was to me. Also, I touch on this in the conclusion of my report, but I'm considering doing a similar survey again in a year or so to see if there are any significant changes over time. This may give us an idea of "trends" on FR and how they work.
Please feel free to ask any questions or share any comments you have!
Editing because a few people have mentioned wanting to get notified if I run the survey again so here's a pinglist:
Why are us newer players, on average, willing to pay more for features with player-assigned value than older players?
I can't speak for everyone, but as an "old" player, I've already gone through a series of "phases" throughout the years and have basically settled my dragon taste based on what I like aesthetically. I think even the old payers that collect particular types of valuable dragons might have a "taste" where they look for particular color schemes and whatnot. You know what you like at this point and shiny expensive stuff you'll fall out of love with in a few months doesn't appeal to you as much as something you know you'll like for a long time. Again, this is just my experience.
Also as a Lightning player, it's heartening to see so many of us participate in dom! I know there are other ways to participate in community events, but dom is a big one, so it's nice to see it being so prominent. I'm sure other flights do this too, but we have some pretty robust programs for people to provide fodder, art, prize donations, fundraising, etc. that all count as dom participation so that might be way a lot of people said they participate but don't exalt.
Edit to add: It's also almost TCC so dom is generally on the brain for us right now haha, that could be a factor too

as a Fire player who participates in dominance primarily by exalting dragons, this was hilarious to see
though also as someone with insight to the more recent Fire dom scene - it's possible that recency bias resulted in lots of non-exalters who got to participate in dom! without spilling anything too detailed about flight-specific dom events, our last dom push involved a vast majority of events to do with donating items of various types, presumably as means to help diversify HOW people can participate in dominance! iirc only one event actually had to do with exalting dragons, while there was actually quite a few events to do with different means of donating items to help support our dom banks! that means that lots more people could just empty out items in their vault in order to support dom efforts, possibly leading to the strange discrepancy in numbers
now that was my first dom event since returning from a multi-year break so I can't actually speak to older habits, but I can 100% imagine this invoking a recency bias in Fire players who took this survey
in general I absolutely LOVED this survey, and am astounded by how detailed the analysis was! I was just hoping to see some generated graphs so I can look at the patterns myself - having them actually analyzed and talked about really helped me digest all the information and find meaning through it all

interesting! I'm surprised that nature is so low in the forum posts area. not surprised that we're last in dom though lol
I'm really surprised by how few people strongly prefer ancients over moderns, I feel like I've seen so many forum threads with dozens of people posting about how they only really care about ancients! huh!
there's a few questions/answers I missed because I was one of the first people to do the survey, but it's okay because all of those questions will be there next year to answer!
anyways loved the analysis, I look forward to next year!!

Thank you for making the survey !
we didn't know so many players were into xyz color combos ::o we tend to see a lot of threads about players excitedly showing their double/triple colors so we just came to believe it's the ideal for most players

ouuu that was a very fascinating read, thank you for putting it all together!
..also as someone who said home was wind because it is where i started and will eventually return to one day, i'm not at all surprised we took the lead on amount of flights visited lol
