When I first started FR, dominance really wasn't my favorite thing. I hated exalting SO MUCH, but now I actually really enjoy participating in it.
I think part of that is to do with Lightning's p sweet way of doing Dom. I think the first thing I did was sign up for a couple of badges to do art for and get paid and did literally nothing else. Quick, easy and very little commitment from me.
And then I slowly started to get involved with more and more! Lightning's community is honestly so nice I'd struggle ever leaving it but I can't help but feel curious about the other Flights. Do others have similar experiences? It's always been an idea in the back of my head to do a dominance push in every flight just to see what it's like.
So I just wanted to ask if you participate in Dom, why do you do what you do? And how did you get there?

I started participating in dominance because I had hit a sort of "wall" in my Flight Rising gameplay. I was bored and needed something to do!! And well... there was all this buzz about dominance, and lots of people were participating in it... I was already exalting dragons for profit on my own time, so why not plan those exalts around dominance pushes and earn some nice art and prizes while I'm at it?
I really like dom now. I try to contribute art when I can (
Wind is pushing this week, and I drew the banner for the push!), and dom planning it really builds such a sense of community that pushes the game to the next level.

I like collecting badges. If a push has pretty badges, I'm throwing dragons at them. The treasure I get is just a bonus.

Haha! Yeah. I saw your art and it's so cool :D I hope my upcoming lightning push (prodartivity) banners are half as good!!
(Ps Basset Hounds are the best!)

i'm also in lightning (hi aether!) but had a slightly different experience. when i joined i first didn't "get" dominance, partially because i never took the time to really understand the mechanic. i was indifferent on exalting, mostly because i'd exalt a dragon or two then rush to the dom board and be like "aww why didnt we move :("
the thing that got me involved in the first place was lightning's "cannon tech teams," which was an older teams-based dominance program from the first few years of the site that later evolved into lightning's current VOLT teams program. i'm still in VOLT now too, and its been a really fun motivator! i love the challenge with dominance - the leaderboards, the collaborative competitions, the badges and tiers to unlock... it really scratches my brain in the best way.
it also really helped me feel a sense of community in FR. i can be a bit of a shy person and for a very long time i was hesitant to get involved in parts of FR's social communities. at first, dominance efforts allowed me to participate while not having to be super social. as time went on i became more comfortable getting involved with art, events, and planning, and it's been incredibly gratifying. at this point dom (and the community around it) has become FR's main appeal for me!

I've always been a casual exalter-for-profit, so getting into dom was just natural. Cool badges and raffle tickets for doing what I was mostly going to do anyway! I'm never going to be at the top of the dom leaderboard, but I enjoy the extra incentive to coli and the feeling of being part of a group effort.

I used to be a guy who exalted every so often just for the cash, but then good old Wind v Plague in 2020... with nothing else to do during the pandemic, I happily sat in coli all day for my flight! [emoji=coatl tongue size=1] And I got hooked on the push hype and feeling of being in a team; started helping out in PlagueDom later that year and now I'm stuck in this side of FR forever.

My first battle was Nature vs Fire in 2020 (I was in Nature). I found it so exciting and unlike anything else I'd done that I wanted to find a more dom-oriented flight to join so there was more stuff I could get involved with. This led me to spend a few years as an org in Water Flight, which was a wonderful experience! I decided to bring what I learned to Fire so I could spread the love of dom.
Continuing to make real friendships and helping people learn how to run stuff keeps me going (I do feel really good about helping a disproportionately queer/ND/disabled/etc. population develop leadership skills such as directing long-term programs, organizing people and events, solving problems, etc. It's rewarding and I feel like it's my little bit that helps make the world a better place.)
If dom weren't a mechanic, I probably wouldn't still be playing FR. The dragons are almost secondary to me at this point lol.
For anyone who loves dom but hates exalting, I recommend getting into dom organizing. Instead of exalting, you can work on getting other people to exalt. :D
I started a Discord server for anyone who's interested in dom! The link is in my sig.

i joined plague's discord server in the middle of that unplanned battle with water in 2024, clicked on the dom channel out of curiosity, and was then immediately handed an eliminate and sent off to mire. i was a firmly non-exalt lair before this but plague's dom stuff is always such a fun time i got dragged in lmao
