TOPIC | New Breed Distribution - Coli Exclusive?
Note: This post has nothing to do with the nature of such a breed, like its elemental heritage, appearance, lore, and whether it's modern or ancient. I'd personally see it working best for a modern dragon of the Limited breeding category given how I imagine this distribution would work, but that may just be me and I'm open to other interpretations! ----- I've thought for a long time that it would be interesting to have a Coliseum-exclusive breed, similar to how we have Coliseum-exclusive genes like Python, Morph, and Flecks.

Unhatched Eggs: You know how elemental eggs have a rare chance of dropping from a Coliseum enemy with their corresponding element? Well, this breed's egg would have that same chance of dropping from a Coliseum enemy without an element! Like a Bogsneak or Nocturne egg, the shell for this breed should be too thick or opaque to tell what element the baby is, therefore meaning it would be randomized. I also would prefer if, like elemental eggs, they could drop in any venue -- meaning you could get lucky in the Training Fields as a newbie, in the Golem Workshop with your fully-statted team, or anywhere in between!
Breed Change Scroll: I believe this should also be a rare drop from neutral enemies that can happen in any venue, but I'm not sure how rare I'd want it to be compared to the unhatched egg. I'd be interested to see your thoughts on that matter if you support this suggestion.
Edit (02/24/23): Quoting myself from a bit later on in the thread for any newcomers!

As with what seems to be most / all new breeds released nowadays (I was on hiatus through the Obelisks and all ancients except Gaolers, so I wouldn't know!), I do think there should be one or two clanbound eggs or breed scrolls courtesy of Galore. I kind of figured that went without saying? I'm sorry for assuming! But, anyways, agreed -- I feel like that alleviates some of the new-breed craziness and allows a certain level of immediate accessibility.
I also agree with those who state that not everyone needs to be into Coli grinding to get their hands on this breed. The prices of eggs and breed scrolls would naturally be high for a little while, but these things drop as they stabilize. Even if the prices ended up stabilizing to, say, the current 350kt/g going price of modern Flecks, that's still very affordable after a week of maxing Fairgrounds. At the speed someone can max with G&G (for me it's ~15 minutes a day), that's less than two hours of work over a week's time to afford it without ever touching the Coliseum. And, of course, that's far from the only option. You can pay someone to grind for you! Trade a high-level Baldwin item for it in the Items for Sale forums! Offer creative services like artwork or lore-writing and earn the cash for it that way! Like... no one has to Coli grind to get anything that can only drop in the Coliseum. We've got a lovely community of people on Flight Rising, which was one of the biggest things I missed while on hiatus. We can help each other!
Those who are talking about Coli accessibility have a fair point. It needs to be more accessible -- period -- whether we're talking about a new breed or not. There's a captcha update in the works (thank the GODS), and I think it would be fun to have a Coli-exclusive breed release at the same time to celebrate! That said... and I'm playing devil's advocate for a second, so please bear in mind that I crave a more accessible Coliseum experience... Coli in its current state hasn't stopped the prices of most of its genes from being super reasonable. Both Python and Morph are under 100kt/g, and the ancient Coli genes are dirt cheap. I can see the eggs eventually stabilizing to the usual 200kt/g to 300kt/g price range, but the breed scrolls might end up falling below that even before an accessibility update.

I've thought for a long time that it would be interesting to have a Coliseum-exclusive breed, similar to how we have Coliseum-exclusive genes like Python, Morph, and Flecks.

 • Unhatched Eggs: You know how elemental eggs have a rare chance of dropping from a Coliseum enemy with their corresponding element? Well, this breed's egg would have that same chance of dropping from a Coliseum enemy without an element! Like a Bogsneak or Nocturne egg, the shell for this breed should be too thick or opaque to tell what element the baby is, therefore meaning it would be randomized. Edit (02/24/23): Quoting myself from a bit later on in the thread for any newcomers!

Overall I'm ambivalent on a Coli-exclusive breed.

While I think it could be fun and interesting, I think this will make people who don't play Coli feel left out. Especially if it's a new Modern breed. FR RNG is already frustrating; I personally do Coli somewhat often for fodder reasons, but I've only had one or two unhatched eggs as drops. Other people haven't had any at all, or on the opposite, have found many.

Being Coli-exclusive could also lead to this breed being either extremely expensive or extremely cheap; it's hard to balance rarity for Coli drops, from what I've seen, in a way that results in a satisfying price.

It can be done, I think, but I feel apprehensive about it.

I think this could be a cool idea.
Coli genes always start out rare and expensive but as time goes on they're pretty cheap. (Look at python/morph, or any of the ancient coli genes) If staff stays with the pattern of giving everyone a clanbound scroll/egg for new breeds (minus viels) then there wouldnt be much worry of leaving out players who dont/can't otherwise use the coliseum.

Rarity might be the biggest determiner of if it would be successful or not. If the breed change was as rare as the coli genes, it would be okay, but if they had the same rarity as eggs, I can see them being more expensive.
I can support seeing a Coli-exclusive. They did give out Undertide breed scrolls despite it being in Arlo. I can't say the same for Baldwin. Undertides are much more recent though. I can see clan-bound scrolls being given out to the community.

I have to say I'm leaning just about entirely against this. We have more than enough revolving around the Coliseum as is, a breed being locked to it as a drop would stay well into the thousands in gems on the Auction House even past a year if we're going by the standard drop rate for specialty items and the host of issues with the Coliseum itself. (I also wouldn't count Nocturnes in being a drop, given they have a lot more going for making them available via chests that could be gathered, brewed, or have drop in the Coliseum. Only recently did more ways of obtaining chests become a thing.)

Not everybody has the time to keep at a mindless grind for days and days, or...well, even WANTS to. Some people can do it and I salute them in having the fortitude to just put something on in the background and keep at it. Further points to the ones who don't lose their temper when a low venue enemy dodges six times in a row. I get chest pains just trying to train fodder on the occasion I do.

If it were to be done, it would depend on a lot of things. Drop rate being the main one. Second, the Coliseum itself is flawed in which you can't really get anywhere without the one "OP" battle stone the game has to offer. Dodging is unforgiving, the captcha issues are at least being rectified soon-ish (but still don't respond to keyboard controls, actually interrupting the mindless grind), and then we get to bosses. Bosses suck up breath with using Eliminate, which would be fair if it weren't for how that stone is vital to being able to do most things in the Coliseum. I have trouble getting a healer to keep up with helping my dragons doing most of the attacking. Then when one goes down, so does the other, and then...best to restart.

This has turned into a bit of a rant and for that I do apologize, I absolutely carry a bias when it comes to the Coliseum - my end point is that I wouldn't support this unless the Coliseum got a major overhaul.

Though as an aside, a Gathering-exclusive breed would be an absolute nightmare in comparison going by RNG. Set turns, the number depending on multiple variables. The Coliseum at least lacks a limit there. If you can use a whole turn and only get a single dandelion, imagine trying to get a breed scroll like that. Yeesh.

No support, fighting against the coli item RNG to get the items you need to finish a gene/breedchange project isn't fun. Some coli exclusive scrolls are still disgustingly expensive if your only option is to buy what you need.

until the Coli is accessible to absolutely everyone I don't support this.

plus, as others have said Coli RNG is a fickle thing and I would not want that combined with breed-change scrolls or worse new-breed eggs. the drop rates on those would either be entirely frustratingly, terribly low or have to be supervised so seriously to make sure they don't become victim/contributors to overall site inflation. I just don't see that going well.

I think a gene-rarity drop of breed changes and an egg-rarity drop of eggs (for funsies, entirely non-necessary but new g1 obtaining methods are funky) IN TANDEM with a galore gift of breed changes / eggs on release would negate most of the issues in this thread as far as stuff being expensive goes.

I agree with the coli already being super loaded, but there aren't too many unique breed obtaining methods to begin with (I believe coli, baldwin and scavenging are the only ones that haven't been done already, removing baldwin if we're talking about moderns as well to boot)

No support. Coli already has too many things attached to it. I wouldn't want it to become even more the center of the site, so to say, especially with it still being a strain on some users in terms of physical access.

Edit- Wanna just put out there I'm kinda super casual, and have only gotten like 3-5 eggs from Coli in my 10 years on FR. I know that's just me, but I feel such a drop rate, or such a release would be too in favor of those who CAN coli longer, and might encourage bots.
