I don’t want to be shunted aside in favor of husbands, wives, and kids, because our schedule changed, because we’ve moved on to different things. I want to be a priority. I want them to fight to keep me, I want to fight to keep them. I want to hold someone, I want to be held. I want to exist in their space, I want them in mine. I don’t want to find out they mattered so much more to me than I did to them. I dream of a love so heavy it makes my spine throb.” kind of way
my mythology pet peeve is when someone describes a scenario in which they keep nearly getting something and then having it snatched away, and everyone’s like “one must imagine sisyphus” no!!! one must imagine TANTALUS!!! sisyphus = being made to perform a pointless, aggravating task over and over without ever making any progress. tantalus = being offered a glorious reward only for it to vanish as soon as you reach for it. they are NOT the same

My child, who spends their entire life being transfered from home to car to school and back, and is not allowed to leave the house or talk to anyone and can only in their wildest dreams imagine a life free from constant surveillance, is very sad. Obviously they’re dumb and lazy, like all kids these days.
kind of a tangent but i recently went to a bowling alley with my friend i’m 19 he’s 18 and the woman at the door didn’t want to let us in because there was a sign saying under-18s needed adult supervision. everything got cleared up and we were able to go bowl, but i’m still so mad about the fact that kids need adult supervision to go to a bowling alley and arcade. like okay maybe young kids should have supervision but what do you mean middle and high schoolers need to hold mommy’s hand while they play video games. kids aren’t just addicted to their phones because phones are addicting, we’re addicted to our phones because there’s nothing else to fucking do
I’m sure banning kids from online spaces while simultaneously not ensuring that they have access to offline spaces to socialize in (without having to rely on their parents who already don’t have time for them) will help them feel better & less alienated from society.
i understand making fun of people for being immature assholes but does anyone else get increasingly uncomfortable with how quickly it goes from “lol that 30 year old is getting into fandom fights with teenagers” to “lol i bet they don’t have a job and live with their mom and still watch cartoons and have an under developed brain” like ok…….. ok hang on im seeing red flags here…. the ableism smoke detector is beeping gang……
recently my friend’s comics professor told her that it’s acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can’t generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister’s screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won’t be able to generate a script that’s any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.
It’s only ever the jobs we’re unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don’t.
