Claim denied with no reason given. Just a sham company.
We bought 2 recliners from Havertys' in July 2023 and a Guardsman 5-year warranty. A spring failed and we submitted a claim. Like all the other reviews, Guardsman has been using several stall tactics. Two days ago, we received a letter from them saying our claim was denied for the reasons below: Yup! No reason was given. Just denied. Hard to believe Havertys' has been promoting their "Gold Plan" protection plan.
Do not buy this warranty it’s a scam
Do not buy this warranty it’s a scam. We were sold this warranty by DFS tried to claim twice and have been rejected. First time was due to the seams fraying and discolouring the second claim is because the usb port stopped working on one of the sofas. They will try everything to get out of coming out to repair.
Fradulant company absolutly fraud…
Fradulant company absolutly fraud insurance find ways not to pay
Waste of $$$$
I normally skip extended warranties, but we bought one for this white sofa to protect against accidents. When the seam ripped, our claim was denied. We wasted $300 on coverage that appears designed to deny claims so they can keep your money.
This company can't and won't improve
This company can't and won't improve. Like an idiot I purchased this crappy protection plan 3 separate times thinking maybe it's better, boy was I wrong. This warranty plan sucks and I wouldn't give it to my worst enemy. DO NOT PURCHASE!!! THEY SUCK!!!
DO NOT BUY INSURANCE FROM THEM!!
Horrendous experience! My parent's spent over £2000 on a sofa from DFS and they took out the Guardsman insurance as advised my DFS.
Problems occurred 2 months after purchasing the sofa with the recliners failing to work properly, sinking cushions and stains even though it had been stain guarded. After being instructed by DFS, they diverted the issue to be rectified by Guardsman. After chasing several times there was an extremely.long wait fo the repair (6 montjs), which didnt happen as the fabric was the wrong.colour and they refused to fix the mechanism and said to.go back.to DFS who said it was Guardsman to undertake the repair! What a shambles and no help whatsoever! My.parent are nearly 80 years old and they have beem so stressed out and used all their savings for it. I am disgusted! After nearly 9 months of chasing, Guardsman admitted that they couldn't repair/fix it and offered a measly £150 compensation last October and guess what, NOTHING!!! PLEASE DONT BOTHER BUYING THEIR INSURANCE, THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS!!!!
I feel I have been completely mis-sold…
I feel I have been completely mis-sold this insurance by Guardsman and DFS. I submitted a genuine claim for a malfunctioning switch on November 3rd 2025 only to receive a final rejection on the 5th January 2026 and to make things more difficult they told me if I wasn't happy with their decision to contact the Ombudsman. I wish I had read the reviews on Trust Pilot before making this mistake. I urge others not to do the same. It goes without saying I will never take out extra Guardsman cover or purchase any items from DFS in the future.

They are rude and find any reason to deny a claim
Total waste of money
Total waste of money, company won’t honor their claims. Bought furniture from Haverty’s that experienced peeling and got denied on every front.
Have a 5yr protection plan with…
Have a 5yr protection plan with Guardsman on 2 sofas and an ottoman from Haverty's. After 4 years, developed a frame issue on a sofa and submitted a claim with pictures on Nov 19... we're into Dec and still haven't heard from them. They're website STINKS and their call hours are worse than bankers hours were in the 1970's. When you call, anticipate being on hold forever and getting hung-up on. This is the worst company EVER! Why did I buy "service protection" from these clowns!!!?!! More like highway robbery!
This company is a scam
This company is a scam. They made their claims form intentionally misleading and did not include an option for accidental damage, only options that aren't covered by their plans. The customer service associates and manager are not helpful or understanding at all, they just go off a script and basically tell you to kick rocks but in corporate terms. Hearing back from them takes forever.
WORST COMPANY AND PROTECTION PLAN EVER
WORST COMPANY AND PROTECTION PLAN EVER. VERY EXPENSIVE PLAN FOR NO SERVICE. FILED THE SAME CLAIM 3 TIMES AND GOT A SMALL CLEANING SPRAY IN THE MAIL! NO RESPONSES, COULD HAVE BOUGHT 1000 SPRAYS FOR THE COST OF THE PLAN. THEY ARE DISHONEST AND HAVE TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DO NOT FOLLOW THROUGH. DO NOT PURCHASE A PLAN FROM GUARDSMAN. USELESS WASTE ON MONEY.
Terrrrrrible
Terrrrrrible. I purchased an expensive couch and decided to pay for Mulberry protection. Apparently they then sold that policy to these clowns. It’s been a FULL time JOB chasing them down and 2 weeks later I still have no $!!!
TERRIBLE
TERRIBLE! I am still working on a claim I made 9/2/25 and it is 11/6/25. I uploaded photos of the issue with my furniture and they finally approved my claim for 1 of the 2 pieces of furniture after I jumped through all their hoops and multiple emails back and forth. Keep in mind these are 2 leather chairs in the same sectional! Each chair must be files separately. I didn't know only one claim was approved until the rep came to my home and told me he only had one work order and all he could do that day was take pictures and I needed to start calling about this other claim that he was unaware of. The department I now need to speak with only accepts calls until 2 pm so as a teacher, I now have to take time off to make these calls! If there was a contest on how to make a claim the most difficult to file, get approved and actually get something fixed they would win! Waste of $600. NEVER AGAIN!
Dreadful customer service from Guardsman
Dreadful customer service from Guardsman.
After sitting in one of the expensive Supreme Power Plus espresso leather recliner chairs we purchased from DFS, I noticed that the colour had oame off the leather headrest, leaving a large unsightly pale patch. We waited 7 weeks for the Guardsman technician to come to the house to “spray” the leather in order to hide the blemish, but unfortunately for us he sprayed it the wrong colour (red instead of espresso as he had mixed the paint incorrectly). He then sprayed it repeatedly after remixing the paint and testing the colour on an unaffected part of the leather suite.
He told us it would all dry out after 24 hours. Over a week later it remains sticky to touch. The area he “tested” the paint on also remains sticky to touch, and he left his finger marks on the undamaged leather after touching it with the wrong coloured leather spray paint.
Whenever I call Guardsman they are extremely unhelpful and continually fob me off by telling me they are too busy to come back out and we will just have to wait for a further assessment.
SCAM
Bought a recliner chair back in December 2020 with an extended warranty from Guardsman for five years (12/2025). Called to report a problem in June, but didn’t eventually submit the paperwork till October, which is still within my warranty term. They denied it saying I had 30 days from the claim date to submit all the paperwork. STAY AWAY … Scamers
Difficult to deal with requires persistence,
This company is not very customer focused . We filed a claim for a stain and they require a tedious amount of details that many have no bearing on a stain. They keep reminding you that you have 30 days to get them all the information. I attached 8 pictures of the stain, the cushion the sectional unit and the entire sofa in the room as well as shots of the manufatuvurere tag to capture everything on the tag as well as the fabric details right off the manufacturers website and a picture of the sales receipt. They sent a cleaning kit that cannot be used on velvet and then ask me to go to the website to complete the claim and tell them how the kit worked. I did not use the cleaning kit as the instruction said never use on Velvet. I went to the link they provided and the only thing I could do was submit a claim so I ended up submitting another claim. The claim form that they prompt you to print after the tedious process does not contain a claim number, which is needed to track the status of your claim.I had to call customer support to get my claim number.
. When I remarked that it made no sense to send me a cleaning kit that cannot be used on my sofa the agent was talking over me and was bordering on rude. I had to raise my voice and tell her to listen to me before she would let me talk uninterrupted.
To track the claim I had to go in through Submit a Claim then there is a place to check status of claim. very unclear and unintuitive. After calling customer support again and getting transferred to "Adjudications" I learned that a local technician was hired and now they should contact me within 4-7 days.
A really painful process but just keep dogging them and stay alert for e-mails and over share information. I would never buy a contract from them again.
Guardsman shocker stay clear
I had to put star to move on I'm not going to go into everything this was insurance through dfs and paid on the day I reported 26th June for a engineer as i dropped lotion on the wooden part for cups well it's 22nd of October and still waiting constantly emailing them still nothing so don't take out insurance with this company stay clear
Avoid Guardsman Furniture Protection…
Avoid Guardsman Furniture Protection Plans offered at Ethan Allen – A Frustrating and Disappointing Experience.
I purchased a leather Melrose couch from Ethan Allen in Rochester, NY, for around $3,300, and added the $299 Guardsman Premier Gold Complete Service Plan, thinking it would provide peace of mind. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I’ve ever had.
After submitting a warranty claim, I waited six months without a response. When Guardsman finally acted, they sent a technician from New Jersey (to upstate New York!) who looked at the couch but said she didn’t have enough time to complete the repair. And then? Nothing. No follow-up. No resolution. Just silence.
Years later, the owner of the Ethan Allen store accused me of being a “problem customer” and casually mentioned that Guardsman had denied the claim. That’s hard to believe, considering they sent someone out to fix it, which wouldn’t have happened if the claim had actually been denied upfront.
I contacted Ethan Allen’s corporate office and received a polite but ineffective response—no real accountability from either company.
Bottom line: Guardsman appears to offer a comprehensive coverage plan, but in practice, they seem to look for any excuse or loophole to avoid fulfilling it. The customer service is slow, unresponsive, and ultimately unhelpful. The owner of the local Ethan Allen franchise finally replaced the cushion, but unfortunately, the dye lot was significantly different from the other cushions, rendering the couch unusable. If you’re shopping at Ethan Allen—or anywhere else that offers Guardsman protection—I strongly recommend you think twice before spending extra on their coverage. It’s not worth the hassle.
Scam Company
Bought sofas from furniture village in 2022 and took out Guardsmen policy. Sofas needed repair in 2023 due leather coating blistering. This was done, happened again in 2024 and was done. Less than a year later happened again. Technician came out, the claim portal said parts had been ordered and then shows claim closed. Phoned to be talked down to and said this is right. How can they not guarantee their repairs for a year? The policy runs to 2027 utterly pointless. Do not waste your money with this company.
