Not worth the money

We finally received the item after a significant delay. Unfortunately, the quality was very disappointing and certainly not worth the approximately £90 we paid.
The frame is extremely flimsy; when lifted from the top it bends, causing the plexiglass and backing to come loose. The entire frame is held together only by small metal brackets at the back, which feels very poorly designed.
By comparison, IKEA frames are far sturdier and better designed, though unfortunately the size we needed was not available from them.

Very disappointing after a good initial experience

I previously purchased shutters from California Shutters and was impressed with the quality, which is why I placed another order. Unfortunately, this second experience has been extremely disappointing.

Two shutters ordered for the same guest room and installed side by side have visibly different frame widths, with a difference of approximately 4.5 cm, making them look completely mismatched and frankly unacceptable from an aesthetic point of view. The company’s response was that this was due to a 5 mm difference in window height, something no reasonable customer would expect to result in such a drastic visual discrepancy.

Despite acknowledging the issue, customer service refused any refund or replacement, stating that the shutters were “manufactured correctly” and placing full responsibility on the customer. There was no clear warning at the point of ordering that such a small measurement difference could lead to such a poor visual outcome.

In my view, this falls short of reasonable customer expectations for a premium, made-to-measure (and expensive) product. I am very disappointed with both the product outcome and the way the complaint was handled, and I would not order from them again.

We’re very sorry to hear that your second experience with us hasn’t matched the positive one you had before. We completely understand how disappointing it must be to install two shutters side by side and find that the panel designs differ.

To clarify the situation, the difference in appearance comes from the height measurements submitted for each window. Even a small variation in height affects the internal layout of a shutter panel, because the top rail, bottom rail, and spacing between slats must all fall within very specific minimum and maximum limits. Our manufacturer uses a mathematical design process to calculate the optimal rail sizes and slat configuration for each individual panel to ensure structural integrity and durability.

When two height measurements differ — even by a few millimetres — the resulting calculations for rail sizes can differ significantly, which can lead to panels that don’t match visually. For this reason, our measuring guide explains that, where shutters will sit side by side, the heights must be aligned to achieve identical slat counts and matching panel designs.

Because the products are made‑to‑order based on the exact measurements provided, and the manufacturer produced them correctly within the agreed technical parameters, we’re not able to offer a replacement or refund in this instance.

We appreciate your feedback regarding clarity at the point of ordering. While the guidance is included in the measuring documentation, we will review how this information is presented to ensure it is as clear and prominent as possible for future customers.

Misleading delivery time

I ordered a frame in November 2025 and it was meant to be arriving with two weeks as per website advise. However the new ETA is now in mid January 2026!

When you placed your order in November, the estimated delivery time shown on our website reflected the information available at that time. Unfortunately, due to a combination of high seasonal demand and supplier-related delays, the production and delivery schedule for this frame has taken longer than expected, which resulted in the updated ETA in mid-January.

We understand how disappointing this is, especially when planning based on the original timeframe, and we fully agree that this is not the experience we aim to provide.
