fuck it i’m finally making this post because goddamn i wish i saw it when i was younger
to the minors who follow me:
if anyone significantly older than you approaches you on the internet or in real life in a romantic or sexual way, do. not. communicate with them. the second it becomes anything other than respectful or friendly in any way or if they make you even slightly uncomfortable, block. them. cut them out of your life. they are not worth it and they will hurt you. run. protect yourself. and be safe.
They are not different. You are not different. Any adult who feels romantically or sexually toward a minor is just as bad as the types they claim to be different from! You are not mature for your age, you are being manipulated.
They aren’t going after people their own age because grown people know to steer clear.
Do not engage! Red flag! Stay away!! This is not a place of honor, nothing valued is here!
How many of you watched the She-Ra panel tonight? ACTUALLY WATCHED IT?! Because I did and here's what I saw:
1. "_____ called someone the D slur"
He DID NOT call anyone that word. He used it in the context of announcing a panelist to the show. The word is IN THE TITLE of her podcast. He was literally just stating the title. That's it.
2. "Noelle said Double Trouble would be creepy around kids."
What Noelle said was that to get the inspiration for Flutterina, Double Trouble would have gone to a coffee shop, found a girl to imitate, and stare at her until they got her mannerisms down. Because of the implications here irt trans people and the stereotypes of "creeping on children", this could have been worded better. BUT this whole headcanon was in response to Noelle DEFENDING Double Trouble against the rest of the crew thinking they straight up murdered the real Flutterina. And again, problematic because of larger implications, but on the show Double Trouble IS A VILLAIN. Just because we think they're awesome doesn't mean they're not capable of shady shit. I saw very few people having a problem with this before. Other things they said about DT?
They specifically searched for a non-binary trans activist to voice the role.
Double Trouble was the whole cast's favorite character.
Everyone had a crush on them.
They support DT x Peekablue headcanon and think they should date.
3. "Noelle said Entrapta and Hordak are great representation."
Literally just did not say this. This comment was made by a fan writing in. A fan who, by the way, IS DISABLED THEMSELVES, and was writing in to thank the crew for the rep THEY saw in these characters. Noelle didn't agree or disagree at all. She goes on to give a character analysis about them both, and that's it.
4. "They made Bow's brothers slaves."
No. They didn't. It's a crew inside joke that all of Bow's brother's have pun names that rhyme with "Bow". The brother in question came from one of the other male creators making the joke "which one of Bow's brothers tills the field? Sow." Here's a pic from Noelle about the rest of the brothers.
Because of the complicated history between black people and "farm work" it's best to not make any joke at all like this. It was tasteless and misguided, but hardly a reason to grab pitchforks. Black people have the phrase "whites gonna white" for a REASON. We know there's no such thing as an unproblematic person. Creator or otherwise. Is it still wrong? Yes. Should people strive to do and be better? Absolutely. Should allies listen when POC talk about things that make us uncomfortable, and support us when WE call it out? Please, for the love of God!!! But I do not think the level of backlash the crew-ra is getting is at all warranted.
I understand I do not speak for all black people or lesbians, and I don't speak for ANY of those other groups mentioned and possibly offended, because I am not one of them. However, I felt the need to speak for myself. I am SO SICK of everyone knee-jerk reacting to every little thing that could possibly offend someone. Noelle is not perfect, but she has done a SHIT TON of work for representation and the progression of normalizing queer, inclusive stories to younger audiences. She also went to bat for a diverse cast of characters to be voiced by a diverse cast of VA.
The truly fucked up thing? There was a question someone wrote in about how a cis, straight, white person can respectfully tell the stories of underrepresented and marginalized communities. Noelle then goes on for 5 minutes about how it's difficult, and how it's more important to hold doors open for creators who actually come from those communities to be able to have their own voices heard. And this is the woman you throw flames at? Ridiculous. Our true enemies are able to so easily conquer us, because we so easily divide ourselves.
No one owes allegiance to any one fandom or creator. But we have got to start picking our battles more carefully. If we don't, people will become desensitized to our cries when REAL threats and offenses happen. And white people? PLEASE stop being so outraged at every little "off-color" remark someone makes YOU think might offend ME. I appreciate you wanting to be an ally, but you are drowning out our voices over things that really matter. That's why we get shit like musicians and sports teams changing their "racially insensitive" names, while police are STILL killing unarmed black peple in the streets without repercussions. It shouldn't be an either/or thing, but it often is, so please focus your attention on "canceling" THAT.
TL;DR: Don't just retweet and reblog everything you see without doing your own research and forming your own opinion. Speak out against bigotry, but understand when it's time attack, and when it's time to educate. Stop holding people on so high a pedestal they have no room to grow, and can only fall. Do not speak for, or louder, than the people you say you are standing up for. We can speak for ourselves. Help amplify our voices; DO NOT BECOME OUR VOICES. And finally, because we really do just have so much bigger fish to fry:
Under the parental oversight of public libraries bill, which has been proposed by Missouri Republican Ben Baker, panels of parents would be elected to evaluate whether books are appropriate for children. Public hearings would then be held by the boards to ask for suggestions of potentially inappropriate books, with public libraries that allow minors access to such titles to have their funding stripped. Librarians who refuse to comply could be fined and imprisoned for up to one year.
Titles including Sherman Alexie’s award-winning The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five and Laurie Halse Anderson’s Speak, a young adult novel about the rape of a teenager, have all come under fire in Missouri over the last decade.
“Every reader and writer in the country should be horrified, absolutely horrified, at this bill. The fact that a librarian could actually be imprisoned for following his or her conscience and refusing to block minors from access to a book, that tells you all you need to know about the suitability of this act within a democratic society.”
Cool. If we are going to be censoring books, let’s censor the worst one of all:
THE BIBLE.
I mean, there’s rape, torture, mass murder, adultery, and all sorts of other henious ideas in there that we can’t expose young minds to. WON’T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?
This has to be illegal, there has to be a way you can charge them with animal endangerment, theft, harassment, or something. Are there some lawyers poking around on here that can weigh in?
Same is true here, at least in BC. The Residential Tenancy Act requires a landlord to give 24 hours notice of entry, but unless a tenant has video footage with timestamps, there’s no way to prove a landlord adhered to the letter of the law on the matter.
Moral of the story: if your pet goes missing after an “inspection”, find out who you can report the landlord to.
now every man who makes a show set in some historic or fantasy-historic time period now has to have incredibly jacked actresses, for “historical realism”
This is why I took stats instead of calc. Because I don’t build engineer bridges in my everyday life but I sure do read studies that affect how I might live my life if I misinterpret them.
I’m terrible at numbers and math but I knew this and I really take it for granted. The average person definitely assumes, quite understandably, that “600% INCREASE!!!” must always mean a whole lot even if it literally only means that one of something is now six of something.
Politicians probably take a shitload of advantage of this confusion.
Oh god I didn’t even think about that whole other layer of confusion.
Yeah if you’ve got 100 people and one of them is sick, that’s 1% of them who are sick, so if it “increased BY 100%” then that means now two people are sick.
If it’s “increased TO 100%” then all 100 people are sick.
Y’all, this is why I get mad when people dump on math as being “lol useless”.
CAUSE IT’S NOT.
It literally will teach you how to interpret bullshit and call out flimflam artists trying to tell you that your life is in danger because crime went up like 23897% or some crap like that, when the reality is the base number was like 1, so going to 5 or 10 is a huge percentage increase but is still incredibly small in terms of populations of even relatively small towns.
So keep all the above in mind when you hear of large percentage increases. Get quantitative. Drill down. Find out whether the underlying data justifies the claim.
A “lobbyist for a major bank” told Reuters that they’re afraid to meet
with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who now sits on Congress’s Financial
Services Committee, because “anything you do or say can be used against
you” – the lobbyist likened meeting with AOC to “going in to talk to
the FBI.”
Another lobbyist cited AOC’s use of Twitter to denounce the lobbyists
who were invited to brief the incoming Congress at “orientation”
sessions as an example of how letting the mask slip around Ocasio-Cortez
would result in global social-media shaming for poor, defenseless
lobbyists.
Helium is like the second most common element in our universe, but most of it is on THE SUN or just bleeding from our atmosphere into space, on Earth our helium is from the radioactive decay of uranium metals, it is often recovered from old mines, and we use helium for TONS of stuff all the time, plus we can’t really “manufacture” it
I’d just like to chip in a sec - if it’s an unpaid internship, it means you probably aren’t a professional yet and don’t know everything or much about the real-life applications of your field. An unpaid internship is not slavery. Paid internships are like jobs - thy exchange work for money; an unpaid internship exchanges work for education. You aren’t being swindled; unpaid internships help you get a foot in the door, give you resume bulk, expand your network, and builds alliances, and - most importantly - gives you a safe space to learn, fail, and try again. It’s educational - no one can afford to hire someone who isn’t doing work at the rate of an experienced candidate. Go get that experience and THEN apply for jobs or paid internships.
US First responder here, Just some info for folks, you only get billed if a private ambulance company or a fire department transports. The medical service provided by your local fire department or FD/municipal paramedic is free. Call us when something goes wrong, We will show up and evaluate you/provide care (stop the bleeding, splint the injury, administer epinephrine) free of charge, And then you can have a friend or uber transport you to the hospital (or sign AMA and just stay home if you don’t want to go to the hospital either.)
Also, in a large number of counties, there are public paramedics paid for by the taxpayers, so ALS transport is free. I’d advise researching your local system.
Please don’t avoid calling 911 for a medical emergency because you’re afraid of bills, you have the right to refuse transport which is where the bills occur.
I have to repeat, you will NOT be billed for medical services provided on scene by the fire department/paramedics, And you have the RIGHT to refuse transport even if not going to the hospital will kill you.
You can’t research your local system in a damn emergency wtf - and if i find out about the prices what can i even do?
I had an ambulance come and i certainly couldn’t refuse and my sister wasn’t thinking of cost i was bloody and my glasses and helmet broke! They certainly didn’t do anything at the scene
The best was the bill that said “thank you for choosing such and such” 😒😒😒😒😒😒😒 choosing????? Choosing????!!!!!!!!! Someone called 911! Aint no choice
The bill wasn’t too bad compared to the ER one which took 3 years to pay off. I mean at least there’s no interest on medical bills so you can work out a payment plan. It was like $280 - ER was $900. After insurance of course.
Also like i did need an ambulance lmao cost or no cost
ETA - researching in an emergency is BULLSHIT and i had to deal with the rudest fucking billing department at a private hospital in atlanta (i never had to pay it - car accident pssenger but the insurance took way too long for how harassing they were) where they said you should have known how much we charge for a flat ER visit
You can’t fucking find that info!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also like what good is research when something happens out of town or at an inconvenient time? What’s gonna keep me from going to thw ER or even urgent care now is my ER copay is $300 and urgent care is $100. I’ll just wait until monday morning and go to primary care for $30 (but this rant is directed at cigna and my non union job)
Research my ass - saw this on a BDS list about a drug company being on illegally seized land like really??? Really???? You’re gonna go get your prescription and say oh no can you get another manufacturer’s version? That aint fuckin happening!!!!!
burn-away-the-flags--begin-again
I legitimately can’t begin to fathom why you’re being so hostile towards me for suggesting that you research your local system ahead of time so you can make a more informed decision during a crisis. Im not telling you to pull your phone out to look it up in the middle of a car accident and I’m not defending how messed up healthcare billing is, just giving info to help people work through the system. Many countries dont charge for certain things and it’s good to know how your local system works.
If you’re conscious and alert you can refuse transport at any time. The reality is that yeah it’s fucked up that when you desperately need help an ambulance is so expensive but whether or not you consider it a fair choice, you have the literal right to refuse transport. Like, that’s not a debatable thing. If an EMT transports you against your will it’s legally kidnapping and possible assault+battery.
And also you absolutely can go to a different manufactor in some cases for drug prescriptions, It’s called generics.
Generics are non-name brand medicines that are made for a large number of meds (it’s a whole different convo about how long after release of a new drug that generics can be made so if it’s a really new drug there likely won’t be) but the cost difference can be drastic and a generic is literally the exact same drug, like it’s not an inferior knockoff it’s literally the same drug.
Epipen brand epinephrine autoinjectors are like $300+ but the generics are like $75.
The company in question MADE generics, this wasn’t boycott pfizer. And finding out who makes your generics is really hard depending on the pharmacy. Kroger has it on the label, walmart does not. Of course that’s moot bc that was a dumb statement back in 2014 by someone making a BDS list
And i am hostile bc of that condescending letter and how fucking RUDE that billing place in atlanta was. They said the same thing, research it. I’m not from atlanta! The car was totalled! The ER was private and had a $1000 blanket fee. I got mad and called my local non private ER and they’re like…… um? No we can’t give you that info.
Research it is also what your cheapass penny pinching condescending insurance company tells you to do. The ads I’ve seen have an adult woman jumping on the bed with her kid and breaking her arm and then they RESEARCH IT. She broke it doing something dumb so it’s okay to take time for your stupid insurance company’s inaccurate website to load.
(Nevermind that ever higher urgent care/specialist/ER copays mean you’re really going ughh can i make it til primary care opens?)
Fuck OFF. Research it? Have you considered generics??? Fuck off i’ve been doing shit since i was 12 with 2 govt, school, 3 different private, and some painful cash months of health coverage. I spent a YEAR playing a stupid game with cigna where they’d lose my continuous coverage letter and reject everything including my generic prescriptions until i called them and they’d be like oh here it is! Repeat next month. For a year.
burn-away-the-flags--begin-again
Okay but like…..I dont work for insurance companies and I’m not defending them. The privatization of healthcare is monstrous but as an EMT/firefighter I have zero control over it other than advising patients who don’t need to be transported in an ambulance that they can refuse to be transported and just have someone else drive them. And I’m specifically not telling you to shop prices or anything like that. My whole point was just saying that some places structure paramedics/municipal EMS differently and it’s good to know how your local system works. I work in one of the larger systems and we don’t bill for medical care (just transport) And Paramedics don’t even charge transport. It’s important to know how your local system works. That’s literally all I said.
I’m not defending the private healthcare system I’m just providing info to help people figure out how to navigate the system as best as they can and to realize that they can have public EMS come treat their life-threatening injuries without getting billed for transport. The generics bit was literally just to help people who didn’t realize that sometimes there’s cheaper options than name-brands.
There’s legitly no reason or excuse for being this hostile towards me.
There are variables beyond the county setup when it comes to cost - my insurance may change how it settles these bills. The bill’s gonna hurt whether i expect it or not.
burn-away-the-flags--begin-again
…if you don’t transport or go to the hospital……theres no bill for insurance to handle for the emergency pre-hospital care.
That’s like the entire point of this post here that you decided to get mad about. If your arm breaks, and we show up to splint your arm, you’re not going to have a bill for insurance to pay unless you get transported or go to the hospital.
That’s the entire point of this post.
Why are you getting so mad about me letting people know how to get basic emergency medical care without being charged? Im genuinely baffled why you’re being so hostile towards me.
People are getting upset with you because you’re not acknowledging that the vast majority of people in the USA are faced with a huge information asymmetry in the medical sector and that this is, in some ways, by design.
What you suggest is not bad in essentials (knowing in advance which ambulance organization is publicly funded and won’t charge a fee for transport), but for people who have little to no idea of the actual cost structure of health insurance and health care (which, I reiterate, is by design in some respects), and who are in the moment of a 911 call faced with a very short-term, panic-because-someone’s-life-is-in-jeopady, your advice is unfortunately next to useless - because of the aforementioned information asymmetry and the short time horizon in which to make a decision.
And fundamentally, it shouldn’t be this way. It shouldn’t be necessary for people in need of treatment to have to shoulder the burdens of weaving their way around a Kafkaesque array of options to find that set of things to do which won’t bankrupt them.
I won’t touch on the generic drug angle as that’s a separate issue from that in the OP, but I will just mention the oligopolistic nature of big pharma and the eagerness with which they seek to extend patent terms on medicines and drugs.
My blog is far from a political one but I read this today and as a proud Indigenous woman trying to get on a good path in life it’s shit like this, the countless numbers of murders/assaults/rapes /disappearances, and continued racism that’s making me more and more afraid to represent my culture even in this day and age. I’ve lost people close to me who couldn’t take it anymore and there’s simply not enough recognition out there for what continues to happen to my people years after my ancestors fought their own battles. Shouldn’t have to be afraid anymore and yet??
WHEW LADS, diving into some vintage 1950s sci-fi here! @blogquantumreality got me reading the Lucky Starr series and I love it. I want to draw some fanart, but first I needed to translate my mental image of the characters to paper, obviously. This still needs some refinement, but it’s basically how I envisioned Lucky and Bigman. Next up: actual fanart, maybe? Actual fanart that isn’t just floating heads, perchance???
Please excuse the dubious torso anatomy, I mainly just wanted to get a handle on how I plan to draw their body types in subsequent things and stuff.
you missed the part near the end where the lightsaber hitting the wall symbolized kylo breaking rey’s hymen and how the hole in the guard’s head from the lightsaber symbolized kylo’s dick
Ohhhhhh my god. This is fanwankery of epic proportions, I’ve not seen the likes of this since the days of yore (by which I mean Livejournal). I feel like I just hopped in a time machine back to 2007 and I’m reading the latest on Fandom_Wank. I haven’t seen reaches like those since the Harmonian symbolism essays.
