I would like to be able to search tumblr by lack of notes. Like, show me the fuck ass things that no one wanted to interact with. I will judge them.

One of the many things that I see on this webbed site that kind of drives me up a wall is when some blog I follow will get an ask that might be a troll, or might just be worded badly, who knows, and the person running the blog will give them the benefit of doubt and actually take the ask at face value and provide them with a sincere, well thought out answer to the question on the assumption that it is genuine only to have some other asshat reply to it or go into their ask box with a “That last Anon was trolling you, just so you know” or whatever.

First, how do you know? Like, unless you are the previous Anon and you’re doing this because you’re salty you didn’t get a rise out of them, you genuinely do not know, for certain what prev anon was thinking. Detecting tone on the internet is hard, and there are no universally known facts, actually. Maybe the guy asking if bottoming for his GF makes him gay is a troll or maybe he just grew up with the sort of specific ideas around gender and sexuality that a lot of people grew up with and tumblr is the first place he’s felt comfortable asking these kind of questions.

2nd, who gives a fuck? The blogger has already responded in the classiest and most compassionate way they could have by taking the post at face value and putting good useful information into the world. Whether or not it benefits the alleged troll, it benefits the rest of their followers and anyone else who stumbles across it.

What did you *want* them to do instead? Was it tear the previous anon apart for your entertainment? It was, wasn’t it?

Going through my follower list blocking all the bots (read: the majority of my followers) and I ran across one called radfoxpoetry and now i’m sad because I would love to read some rad fox poetry.

Ok, I know complaining about any UI change on this hellsite is the done thing, and probably kind of over-done but the removal of the notes button feels manipulative in a way that is really bothering me.

I don’t use other social media—unless discord counts (it probably does but that’s a difference argument)—as often as I use tumblr so it didn’t occur to me when I first saw this new layout

that it was basically identical to bluesky and probably twitter and the other one as well. It wasn’t until I started searching through my old posts trying to find a screenshot of tumblr looked like before this change that further homogenization was what they were going for, and that sucks, but it’s sucks in a predictable way that I’m not interested in right this second.

What *I* want to rant about is what happens when you click the reblog button.

It feels like this makes it harder to look at what other people have said in reblogs. No, it’s not going to stop me from doing that, it’s just like the tiny tiniest bit more effort which means that I’m the tiniest bit less likely to do it and I can’t be the only one. I’m at work and I don’t have time to go research UI design but this feels like a choice. It’s slightly harder to look at what people are actually saying and with the addition of the reblog now button slightly easier to spread the post without actually adding anything to it and I think that’s bad, actually.

I just had this absurdly vivid dream that I was looking for sailor moon fanfic on tumblr and I found this blog called gingerup that had a bunch of sailor moon fanfic where the link to each one was an image of a gum package with the sailor senshi’s signature color on one side and their symbol on the other side but I woke up before I had a chance to read any of it.

I regret to inform you all the gingerup does exist but their blog is fucking empty and they’re probably a bot and I am sad now.

Scrolling through my dash like: On the one hand, you’re correct and that person has no right to police your language/attitude. On the other hand, holy shit you are annoying.
