about
The Sound Cove is proud to present the latest single from dynamic rock and roller, Eric Barlow, entitled “Remains of May” from the forthcoming album, STILL MOVING PARTS, Eric Barlow grew up in New England and was involved in the Boston music scene. As a member of The Banjo Spiders in the late 90’s, he toured the East Coast, released several singles, including “Gilligan’s Daughter”, which was reviewed in Billboard. In the 21st century, he co-founded the terrific power pop band, The Great Bandini, with Scott Janovitz. Eric was very active in Boston, also working with David Minehan, Paul Kolderie and Jake Brennan, and then relocating to NYC in 2006. In NYC, Eric has worked with PT Walkley, The Robin Electric, and Swoon. And now here we are in 2024 and its time for Eric to shine with his new solo musical offerings!
You’ll hear a lot of great influences in Eric’s music, including 60’s Kinks, 70’s Black Sabbath, Cream, as well as Big Star, the Beatles, and Kiss. On “The Remains of May”, we get an action-packed power-pop/rock song with seering electric guitars, percolating keyboards, and hooks a plenty! It begins in a smoky interrogation room, with the song’s protagonist feeling confident that he has gotten away with murder. The song builds in intensity as the singer soon realizes that he has made “a grave mistake”. The distorted guitars and Vox organ swirl into an exciting climax after a revealing musical break-down. Barlow has always wanted to capture a true crime style song, and this one is inspired by years of TV and film in that category. The Sound Cove is super psyched to welcome Eric Barlow and “The Remains of May” to our digital singles catalog!
lyrics
Not much I really wanna tell you
Not much is really on my mind
And I’ve got no empathy here for you
And I’ve got no body on my side
How long have you kept me here for?
I think you better take your time
The remains of May
You may not even ever find
Oh yeah, by the way
Our love was anything but boring
Winter was one hell of a ride
Down in the basement
I stood there in amazement
It took eternity to hide
The remains of May
Shine on your ultraviolet light
Throw my rights away
You think you’re breaking me but I
Got nothin to say
Looks like you’re running out of time
And I’ll be on my way
News reporter: “Whilst out walking his dog this morning, a Yorkshire man found the bludgeoned body of a young woman that has been missing for nearly 3 weeks. His dog digging in a pile of what he thought were just leaves on a beautiful autumn day made the deadly discovery. The latest reports say the woman’s remains were seemingly buried and then dug up and devoured by wild foxes. More to come later on the news at 10 live from Newmiller Dam”
The remains of May
They were found today
They got my DNA
How did I let it get away?
I made a grave mistake
Only a day away ’till they
Throw the key away
I’ve got no body on my side
The remains of May
It took eternity to hide
The remains of May
