This guide explains how to install the Guided Generations extension in SillyTavern. There are two main installation methods available.

Before installing the extension, ensure you have:

• SillyTavern installed and running
• Git installed on your system (required for extension installation)
• A stable internet connection

This method allows you to install the extension directly from its GitHub repository.

1. Open SillyTavern and navigate to the Extensions page
2. Click the "Install Extension" button (download icon)
3. Enter the Git URL in the dialog that appears:

   https://github.com/Samueras/GuidedGenerations-Extension
   

4. Choose installation type:
   • Install just for me: Extension is available only for your user account
   • Install for all users: Extension is available for all users on the system
5. Click Install and wait for the installation to complete
6. Restart SillyTavern when prompted to activate the extension

• Downloads the extension directly from GitHub
• Installs it in your SillyTavern extensions directory
• Automatically handles dependencies and file placement
• Provides immediate access to the latest version

This method installs the extension from SillyTavern's curated extension list.

1. Open SillyTavern and navigate to the Extensions page
2. Expand the "Download Extensions & Assets" section (click the arrow)
3. Verify the Assets URL is set to:

   https://raw.githubusercontent.com/SillyTavern/SillyTavern-Content/main/index.json
   

4. Click the "Load" button (plug icon) to refresh the extension list
5. Find "Guided Generations" in the list of available extensions
6. Check the status:
   • 🔽 Download icon: Extension is available for installation
   • ✅ Green checkmark: Extension is already installed
7. Click the download icon next to Guided Generations to install
8. Wait for installation to complete
9. Restart SillyTavern when prompted

• Installs from SillyTavern's verified extension repository
• Ensures compatibility with your SillyTavern version
• Provides a curated, tested version of the extension
• May have a slight delay in getting the latest updates

After installing the extension:

1. Restart SillyTavern completely
2. Verify installation by checking the Extensions page - Guided Generations should show a green checkmark
3. Access the extension through the new buttons that appear next to your send button

Extension not appearing after restart:

• Check that Git is properly installed on your system
• Verify the extension appears in the Extensions list with a green checkmark
• Try clearing your browser cache and restarting SillyTavern

Installation fails with Git errors:

• Ensure Git is installed and accessible from the command line
• Check your internet connection
• Verify the GitHub repository URL is correct

Extension appears but buttons don't show:

• Check the extension settings to ensure buttons are enabled
• Verify you're in a chat interface (buttons only appear in chat)
• Check browser console for any JavaScript errors

If you encounter installation issues:

1. Check the Troubleshooting page for common solutions
2. Review the browser console for error messages
3. Verify your SillyTavern version is compatible
4. Visit the GitHub repository for the latest installation information

The extension automatically checks for available updates when you restart SillyTavern, but does not install updates automatically.

To manually update to the latest version:

1. Go to Extensions → Manage Extensions in SillyTavern
2. Look for the Guided Generations Extension in your installed extensions list
3. Check for a download button (⬇️) next to the extension:
   • Download button present: Update is available - click it to update
   • No download button: Extension is already up to date
4. Restart SillyTavern after updating

Alternative Update Methods:

• Use Method 1 (Direct Install) to get the latest version from GitHub
• Or wait for the extension to appear in the Download Extensions & Assets list

To remove the Guided Generations extension:

1. Navigate to Extensions in SillyTavern
2. Find Guided Generations in your installed extensions list
3. Click the remove/trash icon next to it
4. Confirm removal when prompted
5. Restart SillyTavern to complete the uninstallation
