about

Quadrants:

Rainfall in Limerick City [February]
Rain Will Follow [March]
New Projections [April]
Or Something (Nothing) [May]

"At some point last year, D Kirk, the Toronto-based musician who records as JICS, sent me three albums, asking me if I would consider releasing them. We had put out his excellent collection Nostalgia in early 2024, and as soon as I took a listen to the albums he shared, I knew I wanted to work with him to put all of them out. It wasn't long before he shared a fourth album with me.

We are so excited to release these four albums by JICS, together titled Quadrants. Each collection creates its own world, with its own approaches, tones, moods, and feelings. JICS has an incredible ability to create small cinematic soundtracks, and across 46 tracks, his skills are on full display."

-Daniel Field

From JICS:

After a short but inspiring stay in Ireland in late 2023, I returned home and set to recording what would become Quadrants, four distinct but connected works.

The first instalment, the first puzzle piece, is Rainfall in Limerick City.

Although I didn’t find what I was searching for, I do know this: the world is both large and small. Answers will come and go, but you will find nothing if you’re not looking.

The beauty of the mighty Shannon.
The ghosts of the 1916 Rising.
The forgotten children of the Magdalene Laundries.
Róisín Dubh.

Rain Will Follow, the second instalment of Quadrants, is a collection of piano pieces with worn edges.
It’s an album of questions and conversations, a dark highway at midnight with the bright city lights in the distance.

New Projections is drenched in the warm nostalgia of a fuchsia sunset.
It’s the quiet hiss of a cassette tape.
Drifting through the city streets.
A slow drive along the coast in the fading summer light.

The final piece of Quadrants is Or Something (Nothing).
It’s sitting by the window, breathing in the cool air, with a heavy heart and a broken watch.
A prayer bell reverberates gently in the distance, and a lone dove sings softly.
