Thank you for your interest in refereeing our events
Each year the Intercollegiate Rowing Association selects referees to work the IRA Collegiate Series (NIRC, NERC, Women's Sprints, and Eastern Sprints) as well as the IRA National Championship Regatta.
We look for a minimum of three (3) years of broad experience, preferably officiating collegiate competitions. Referees must also be members in good standing of the National Association of Collegiate Rowing Officials (NACRO). If you are not a member and would like to join, please reach out to Howard Meisner, Director of Officiating, at [email protected].
An IRA official must be able to:
Work any position - starter, aligner, finish line, etc.
Address issues quickly, balancing both the specifics of the issue and the broader objectives of the regatta
Seamlessly work as a team with other officials, LOC staff, and volunteers
Operate effectively in a high-stakes, high-stress environment
In addition, an IRA official’s demonstrated knowledge and application of the Rules of Racing must support the determination of a champion while providing student-athletes a context in which they can perform at their best.
The tentative selection and notification schedule is as follows (subject to change):
First week of December - Referee availability memo distributed
Second week of December - Responses due
Second week of January - Juries finalized by Chief Referees, all respondents notified of jury selections
If you would like to be included on the mailing list when the availability memo is sent out, please fill out the form below.
