The man was starting to thaw, his initial hostility giving way to an eager talkativeness. Mobius listened attentively to the meandering narrative about the printer, nodding along and occasionally interjecting with an encouraging remark. A spark of affection flared inside Loki’s chest. Was there anyone Mobius couldn’t win over with his seemingly effortless charm? Even Ravonna wasn’t wholly immune, judging from what Loki had observed on his first day.
“…so I fixed the paper jam all by myself. Gwen gave me a gold star!”
“You’ve never given us gold stars,” Loki commented, leaning against the counter and gazing at Mobius in mock accusation.
“Maybe that’s where I’ve been going wrong,” Mobius muttered, lips twitching.
“You could set up a tier system. Casey would love it.”
“One star for loading extra printer paper without being asked, two stars for getting a round of coffee from the vending machine, three stars for doing a good job with a tricky dataset…”
“Oh, I don’t need a gold star to tell me I’ve done a good job,” Loki teased, delighted to see the tips of Mobius’ ears turning pink. “I much prefer it when you tell me yourself.”

WIP Wednesday
It feels like a while since I posted one of these!
@insert-witty-user-name-here and I have been busy drafting the rest of Dividing Lines. In a surprise to no one (except us 😅), the second half of the fic has ended up being slightly longer than the first. Plenty of twists and turns (and angst, romance, hurt/comfort) in store for ‘part 2’!
Sharing a snippet from Chapter 20…

“I don’t think there’s anyone here,” Mobius whispered. A thick layer of dust covered the surface of the desks. At least one of the chairs was broken, the back wrenched sideways at a disconcertingly odd angle. “Do you think we should…”
He trailed off, tightening his hold on Loki’s hand. It took Loki a moment to realise why: there was a scrabbling sound coming from the far corner, so faint that he wondered at first if he was imagining it. The noise stopped and started, strangely muffled, like someone was scratching at the walls with blunt fingernails. Loki shivered.
They started to move in the direction of the sound, but it ceased abruptly. After a moment’s tense silence, the soft scuffling noise started up again, fainter and further away.
“Maybe it’s rats,” Mobius suggested uncertainly. “Looks like this place hasn’t been cleaned in a while. Years, probably.”
“We should make sure.” Loki swallowed. The scrabbling sound made his skin crawl. “If there’s someone trapped in here—”
He whipped around as a high-pitched keening pierced the air, a drawn-out cry of distress that wavered for an instant before breaking off.
“Oh, gods,” Mobius muttered, turning pale.
“It came from over there,” Loki said, disentangling his hand and crossing the room in half-a-dozen long strides.
