Aegis of Champions
From Liquipedia Dota 2 Wiki
For the in-game item, see Aegis of the Immortal.
The Aegis of Champions, often shortened to the Aegis, is a physical trophy that is awarded to the winners of The International tournament.
Lore
[edit]
The Aegis was based on Norse and Chinese designs. Its central relief depicts lane creeps from the
radiant and the
dire.
History
[edit]The first Aegis of Champions was forged out of bronze and silver by Weta Workshop in 2012, meaning the Aegis was not present for the first International in 2011. The reverse side of the trophy had a single ring, engraved with the names and handles of each player on the winning team of The International each year. Only ten slots were engraved on the ring, meaning the Aegis ran out of slots after The International 2022.
During The International 2021, a ceremony took place featuring past winners of The International that were present at the 2021 event, either as a player, coach or broadcast talent. The Aegis of Champions was symbolically passed between each year's representatives, with Ceb, representing OG's win in The International 2019, placing the trophy on its traditional pedestal.[1]

During the afterparty of The International 2022, the Aegis was allegedly briefly lost by the winners, Tundra Esports.[2] The Aegis was later "found",[3] although some suggested this was a bizarre prank.[4]
For The International 2024, a new Aegis trophy was unveiled, featuring a second ring with a further eight slots, one of which was taken by Team Spirit, winners of The International 2023.[5]
Winners
[edit]- 1 The Aegis had not yet been created during The International 2011.
Hall of Fame
[edit]All International winners are immortalized within the game. Within both team's Fountain area, an Aegis of Champion is located right behind the Base Shops. A pop-up appears upon clicking on the Aegis, Listing all teams that have won The Internationals in the past, with the most recent team being displayed largly at the top of the list. Hovering the cursor on any of the team names extends the pop-up, providing extra information, such as the team's composition at the time of victory.
An unused modifier exists as well, along with a status buff icon.
Miniature Collector's Editions
[edit]The miniature collector's editions of the Aegis of Champions are made of an ally of undisclosed metal elements. They are scaled 1:5 compared to the Aegis of Champions granted to the victorious team, and are all inscribed with the corresponding year, and come embedded in a black casing with a plexiglas front panel, and a "The Internationals" plate below it. The aegis can be removed from the casing.
