On the northern tip of the west island, Taiga Boreal’s icy mountain ranges rise to formidable heights. With thin air and piercing winds, brutal conditions in the area make it difficult for visitors to traverse the snowy land. Everclouds blanket the entire region, and in some places, they are so thick that one cannot see far in front of them. This presents great danger, but occasionally one is surprised by a wave of healing warmth radiating from the Lesser Air Atippo, who is kind enough to grant a passerby temporary respite from the cold.

Biology

Physiology

The Exalted Air Atippo’s crowning glory is a large, scoop-shaped horn on its head that’s roughly the same size as the rest of its body. It balloons out like a collapsed mushroom, teal in colour with a knobbed grooved texture, often billowing wisps of air from the notches around its curve. Floating above the horn is a glowing white orb, pulsing with light just like the luminous dots drifting from its light turquoise tail. The rest of its body is covered with dark blue markings that swirl lives ocean waves. Standing on four stout legs with small dark blue claws, the Exalted Air Atippo looks up with its amethyst eyes, twitching its thin ears.

Behaviour

The Exalted Air Atippo has a remarkable memory, and it knows its way around the extensive tunnel network beneath the surface of Taiga Boreal intimately. Every day, it visits active geysers to graze on lichens growing near these pockets of heat. It is capable of inhaling and exhaling with the notches upon its horn, collecting large quantities of hot air to help it keep warm. The Exalted Air Atippo is resilient against the force of water which may flood an ice cave, using its affinity for air to buffet an air bubble around it. With excess energy, it travels throughout the region and distributes its healing warmth to any in need.

• The Exalted Air Atippo can inhale and exhale air through the notches upon its horn.
• The Exalted Air Atippo gathers in groups and travels through tunnel networks together, awaiting the eruption of a geyser. This ritual allows them to gather hot air into its horn as their light orbs glow in unison.
• The Exalted Air Atippo spends most of its grazing, using its horn as camouflage among the mountains. It may blow flurries of snow up into a white cloud around its body, concealing its form.
