Beneath the surface of Crimson Waste are a series of vast underground tunnels untouched by the chaos above. These cavernous pathways are nearly pitch-black, with tiny luminescent plants that dot the walls. Some release colourful acid capable of melting flesh and bone. But that’s not the only thing visitors should be cautious of. Slumbering Scoriox is coiled up in the shadows, and any who disturb its rest will feel its burning wrath.

Physiology

[edit]

The Scoriox is as red as its flame, with a golden-flaked crown fit for a king. Its skull is pitted at the top to allow its blazing fire to stream through. Above its nose begins its centre horn, long and sharp like a spear, and it has golden-tipped scales along its sides, arranged like spreading wings. Layers of wing-like scales fan out from its neck and upper back. It has two bronze eyes and many copper plates along its lengthy stomach that hold within them a fiery glow. Patterned like a shell from its lower back downwards, it is limbless with six knife-like barbs adorning its tail.

Behaviour

[edit]

The Scoriox is ruthless and unpredictable, calm one moment and unleashing its fury the next. Its disposition is as fluid as fire, flaring up suddenly and without warning. When in good spirits, it greets those it meets genially, its head held high with an air of superiority. It is pleased when others treat it with honour and respect. But if they do not, it becomes cunning, using its movements to beguile and manipulate the offender before smiting them with fire.

Facts

[edit]

Kol’s Observation

[edit]
  • The Scoriox’s hypnotic sway puts other Illuvials in a trance so they do not move away from the flaming projectile that it hurls at them.
  • The Scoriox spends most of its time underground because it prefers darkness to a bright surface.
  • The Scoriox does not always behave aggressively, but it has a vicious temper when it is disturbed. It can sometimes approach others amicably, but its mood is as changeable as lava.

Buckley Analysis

[edit]
  • The Scoriox has a powerful set of lungs that allow it to generate and expel bursts of heat from its mouth. Its lower body can build up pressure and coil up like a spring, helping it launch magma projectiles out of its mouth across vast distances.
  • The Scoriox’s skin is extremely heat-resistant and covered in scales that can disperse heat energy into its environment.
  • The Scoriox has a specialised organ called a xiphoid located at the base of its spine, which produces and stores flammable substances in conjunction with three internal gas chambers along its body.
  • The Scoriox’s digestive system is able to break down tough material due to the highly acidic enzymes produced in its stomach. Based on a scan of its digestive tract, the Scoriox preys on a variety of morphopods and Illuvials, including other predators such as Emberlynxes.
  • The Scoriox’s blood is made up of a unique compound that allows it to flow at extremely high temperatures.
