Four with Cinder in the fresh snow.

Windy afternoon hunt with the Bean.

The wind was quite violent earlier in the day, causing a lot of downed trees and power outages. It’s also been above freezing for several days so almost all the snow is gone.

I’ve noticed that the black grey squirrels have been spreading since I started hunting, and there’s now a population of black fox squirrels in my neighborhood.

Something I don’t see very often are these rusty/dark belly grey squirrels, but I’ve shot four or five this season so far. Usually I only get one or two, if any. But they seem to be increasing as well.

The rusty/dark patterning isn’t always the same. The one on the tailgate has a rusty stripe down the belly, the one on the freezer doesn’t. It will be interesting to see if these increase like the black phase has.

Spending time in the woods with the Bean

First hunt of the year with Ember. Very cold morning. Squirrels were out for about an hour then nothing but dens. Managed four before the squirrels vanished.
