MiZi MuZiK continues its sonic journey with James Harcourt’s futuristic brand of intricate synth work, stripped drum structures, and blooming euphoria. For catalog no. 2, James delivers three-tracker ‘Symmetry’—a choppy, synth-crazed piece of sound alchemy that merges the cerebral with the visceral, unveiling new nuances on every listen.

‘Hedonista’ is quintessential Harcourt: molding highly technical synth-work into an accessible, floor-focused groover with an avant-garde twist, James unfolds an array of pitch-bending lead themes that arc across a field of radiant pads. Ricocheting metallic plucks tear through bright atmospheres, completing an artful oscillation between serene beauty and dancefloor exultation.

The title track ‘Symmetry’ unfolds a radically refreshing concept of club music. Built atop a compact, tomtom-driven beat, ‘Symmetry’ populates its stripped frequency spectrum with bit-crushed, spaced-out, and pitch-bent synth salvos. Thoughtfully giving each the room to unfold their nuances and particularities, James explores a vast array of intricately crafted soundscapes and energies —‘Symmetry’ ends up a bleeding-edge tour de force of electric synthesis and unexpected dancefloor curveball.

‘Evolution’ closes out the three-tracker with a booming array of oscillators that gradually morph into a bright and hopeful orchestra of electric contortions, chopped-up pulse waves, and cascading white-noise percussion. Set to an infectiously pitching bassline theme, ‘Evolution’ gradually opens up the filterbanks until all that remains is pure, brightly blazing euphoria.

Through its pitch-bending, stripped-down futurism, ‘Symmetry’ feels powerfully refreshing. But in many ways, it’s also James Harcourt at his most elemental: every note and rhythm is deliberate, precisely sculpted, and thoughtfully carved into the frequency spectrum. The result is a deeply emotional trio of club tracks—and a masterclass in forward-thinking club music.
