Welp, I'm glad to see this season finale has some joy and smiles rather than being despair. At this point in time, it looks like Hinako is able to overcome her grief thanks to her new friends this season.

Truly though...so many memories made this season, from good or bad. It's been an emotional journey for Hinako, Shiori, and Miko.

Well, Miko contemplating if Hinako and Shiori's relationship could turn into the S&M kind, it's just better to keep on them instead...

The girls' trip to the hot springs, and the crowd putting a reminder on Hinako of the family she had back then, as much as Shiori sure likes to irritate Miko and them both stringing Hinako on, it makes for quite the fun interaction they once had since the dark confrontation. Even for Hinako, who's picking a gift for the yokai, of which Shiori's reminded of her past when young Hinako is constantly giving her gifts from the ocean to trigger her once-depression, that's not the mood for the season they're in, but to bask in the goodness of their trip together. Miko even forcing Shiori to go with Hinako to get some ice cream, she's a cunning fox alright.

The renewed promise between Hinako and Shiori, as much as the yokai relents that she'll look after the sickly girl, which she wants to apologize for all the trouble she'd given to her as well, all's well for a life that evolved from a simple desire of dying to a promise that just awaits it's time to abide, it'll depend on how long this tryst will go between the human and the yokai.

Excellent horror series following Summer's HikaNatsu Yaoi series, that's two horror bangers back-to-back.

Satisfying and wholesome finale with many funny moments. Hinako has made some great friends. Hopefully she'll have a happier life from now on.

This was a pretty good and emotional show, but the whole Girls Love tag was quite misleading. Anyway, I liked the story and characters, especially Miko. She was the most entertaining one.

As an anime only, I did enjoy watching this and the character interactions, especially the back and forth with Hinako, Shiori and Miko. But I'm told by people who like the source material that this anime was lacking, that the visual elements (at least in the beginning) didn't add much to the story. For those who have experienced the original source material, do you agree or disagree?

So many deep, complicated feelings and emotions that would probably never truly unravel but words have been spoken and a promise was made, what comes next doesn't matter in the happiness that is now and here, even if it just on the surface.

This anime has a serious subject and shows it very well, this mix with romance and Monster was great!

I think this is important to remember: If you are suffering from depression and if you have in mind suicide, please talk to somebody and find some help! You are not alone and you can find someone who is gonna help you in this difficult time!

There's definitely need for a season 2 here and i'm not sure if we'll ever get one here. More hopeful wrap-up with what i've seen last few episodes.

Best thing about this show is the music, that's for sure. Atmosphere also kept up. I do feel like there was more potential here if it did get a better studio though, has to be said, some stuff lacked necessary impact due to their limitations.

We can clearly see that Hinako was forcing a smile infront of Miko to make her not feel bad about the trip and to make Shiori eat her soon if Hinako can show that she's happy.
And it seems like Hinako already knows that Shiori is not intended to uphold her renewed promise. Yeah, Hinako can't be that much of a fool to not see that. But still Hinako wishes for Shiori to keep her promise and Shiori is willing to keep this going if she can see Hinako having fun even if it's one more day.
The last line from Hinako was confusing. What did she mean by when she said that she would never make that promise ever again ??

Watatabe was a gem of this season. I'm definitely sure that it would already get greenlit for a season 2.

All I want for Christmas is yuri! Thank you Santa for the gift, amazing finale to an amazing first cour. If anything deserves to break the yuri one cour curse, it’s this. I NEED TO SEE HOW THINGS PLAY OUT WITH HINAKO AND SHIORI!! Will be starting the manga asap because I’m going to miss my gays of the year sm. Miko, thank you for being the best supporting character of the year

This was an amazing finale, lot to go over. First off, I’m so glad all 3 of the girls got to go on this trip together since they have become an inseparable unit. For Shiori and Miko, it’s not about either one of them individually winning, just keeping Hinako with them as long as possible and hopefully changing her mind on wanting to die. To that end, I love how Shiori trolls Miko with the photobomb at the start of the episode. She’s really playing 4D chess because she does enjoy fucking with Miko, but she also knows they are the two most important people in the world to Hinako and them getting along makes her happy. Not them playing literal tug of war over Hinako too lmao lesbians are so extra!

We have to talk about how good the soundtrack is in this series. The story is good on its own, but the way that piano kicks in as we get the flashback to Hinako gifting Shiori that hair piece as a kid is so unfair, really got me emotional. For Shiori, times like this have to hurt so much because you can feel the old Hinako deep down there, but she’s metaphorically drowning in her own despair and can’t come to the surface.

Miko peeping the tension between Shiori and Hinako so she sets them up to go get ice cream together is exactly why she’s best girl. She’s so selfless and prioritizes Hinako’s happiness over her own PLUS this gave her a chance to fuck with Shiori which she’ll always take. It set up one of the best moments in the series thus far.

That convo encapsulates the finale title of “warmth on the ocean floor” it’s such a sad contradictory scene because Shiori wants Hinako to be happy, but not too happy as that’d mean it’s time to “eat” her. Conversely, Shiori who represents the ocean, something that was cold and painful for Hinako previously, has come to be this source of warmth and comfort for her that she may finally be free from years of suffering.

“Even after you’re dead, I’ll never forgive you” we’re reaching levels of peak yuri I didn’t even think was possible omg, thank you for this Christmas meal. Even though this convo ended in Hinako reaffirming her desire to die, there’s a glimmer of hope in it as Shiori banks on being able to reach and save her. It’s such a cruel contradiction, but it’s better than no hope at all

Absolutely love the final scene of all the girls looking toward the future. I’m sure there will be many more difficulties ahead for all of them, but they’ll take things day by day and face them as they come. I actually feel like this first season was more about Shiori’s development and gradually learning what it means to be human than Hinako. Hinako is still dead set(no pun intended) on dying, while Shiori understands the importance of talking to people and seeing things from their perspective now, and invaluable tool that will help her going forward. Could yap all day about this, simply put, peak yuri.

Yes! That's a total realistic ending, speaking as someone who suffers from a mild form of depression (with anime as a means of escapism), it doesn't simply go away but each and every day is a struggle to motivate oneself and to not let those around one notice too much. I think especially the difference between Miko and Shiori has been a great depiction of how different people pick up on the mood and how they react to it. So this finale gave an outlook on how the three might continue to live together in the future.
Great anime, everything done right!

PS: I have no idea how all this will play out in the manga, I just finished ch. 22/vol. 5 (after the zoo visit) and it's being translated very slowly.

It was a decent story, it just felt like we were going in circles at times. I don't mind the gloomy undertone because of the backstory of why our MC is like that. It's a weird reason to expect her to even be happy at all 😅

Also stop talking about the titles. Your brain is rotted from all the isekai animes with the synopsis as their titles.

My biggest problem with this is that it was labeled a yuri but it's not a yuri at all. It's like they see an all-female cast and just slap the tag on it with no sense at all.

OP and ED were mid asf nonetheless still good series looking forward if it gets another season lol.

After recents events its just right for the girls to get a reset by taking the time to properly relax. Im really glad to see Hinako is back to her usual self. In contrast to Shiori Miko's more intergrated into society after all. But that scene where she helped that old women was heartwarming. That scene with the fireflies really was beautiful. We defo need a s2 for this.

Merry Christmas fellow MAL peeps for those who celebrate, not the most fitting show for the holiday but I always love having something to watch on this day. This was a mostly chill finale, and honestly I’m glad it was, it was a nice reward for the cast and us viewers after all that just went down, it was especially nice seeing Miko enjoying herself so much, if Miko’s happy then I’m happy lol.

And the last moment between Hinako and Shiori among the fireflies (souls of the dead) was really good, it’s not a perfect world in the slightest but Hinako finding herself having even a little fun was really nice to see, it’s bittersweet because of the renewed promise of Hinako being eaten but it’s like Shiori said, the promise is the reason there can even be a day like this, so for that reason I’m alright with the promise for now, poor Shiori for having to hold up to it tho, but you never know what can happen beyond this, I don’t think anything is truly set in stone yet.

And that was it for the spooky yuri anime, or maybe I should say “yuri” because really it wasn’t, there were some teases but that’s it really, I wouldn’t say there is any actual romance happening. Could Shiori and Hinako’s relationship get to that stage? Maybe, but imo it wouldn’t feel right if it did, but that could just be because of their relationship in its current state, maybe my mind will change depending on how things go from here. About the show itself tho, I really liked it, not quite as much as “The Summer Hikaru Died” if I had to compare (even tho they aren’t really that similar) but I thought it was really well done for the most part, the production wasn’t amazing but they made up for it with the OST and atmosphere, and of course the story too even with such a small cast, and said cast is really good imo, I’m especially gonna miss Miko, Shiori really grew on me a lot by the end too. OP and ED pair were really good as well, they were very fitting for the show and just great music, same goes for the Miko ED which despite being not so fitting, was really good lol.

I hope a Season 2 can happen for this eventually, not sure how likely it is but I’d really like to see more of this story, and if it never happens, I could see myself getting the manga for this one.

final ep aired on Christmas day. Anyway, that's a really cute red outfit that Miko wore for the trip. And I'm so glad to see Miko so happy, when she saw that Hinako said that she enjoyed the trip.

sweet when Shiori remembered the time Hinako gave her the seashell as a hair ornament.

this is one of the best shows I watched this year. And it's now time to read the manga.

Unfortunately, the story kept going in circles a little too much after the first half and lost a lot of steam. Even so, the whole show was amazing, the sensitive topics were done in good taste and the slow unraveling of the mystery was satisfying, especially during the "zoo date" arc.

Only having 3 main leads, by that i mean there are only 3 actual characters in the show (excluding the lady from the training camp), hampered this show momentum and left me feeling wanting more interactions with different types of humanoid? yokais or sth along those lines. But, the 3 characters are ultra mega hard carried by their VA performances, so at least that makes me forgive some of the show's shortcomings in the way the story is structured and paced.

Also, surprised to see that this was another delayed show from 2024, most likely fuckt up by covid.

Good last episode.

Girls went to the hot springs to relax and unwind a bit.

Fox is genki and kawaii as always, Hinako is smiling (!) and Mermaid seems a little sad?
I was also a little wary of Hinako's smile.
Its unusual to see her like this, especially after the previous events.

So in the end, Hinako and Shiori go for ice cream and talk while looking at the fireflies.
I still understand a lot about Hinako.
Even if she was having fun, it doesnt change her decision.
I mean, it doesnt change anything.
And a really sad moment was when Shiori said she would never forgive Hinako.
Well, yes, Hinako simply forced Shiori to make that promise.
It just selfishness.

I understand Hinako, but it doesnt mean im approve her actions, especially after this episode.
Fox and mermaid try so hard to make her happy, they do everything they can, literally idolize her, but Hinako still wants to die, which hurts them both.

What should she do?
Live for these two monstergirls maybe, idk...

Well, about this anime in general:

Everytime i think anime as form of art is dead, a work like this appear.

Its nice to know that Japan can still make good anime, not just shounens and one piece.

Its beautiful, emotional, subtle, sensual anime about love and desire for death.

High quality beautiful visuals, a good soundtrack, a non-cliched story, interesting characters, well conveyed feelings and emotions, and its YURI.

I would call it the best anime of the year, if not second season of Sono Bisque Doll.
But its definitely one of the best animes in recent years.

A lovely ending. Hinako isn't cured, isn't being tricked; she knows exactly what the new promise means and why it was made, and yet she's willing to go forward a day at a time, and make the best of it that she can, as long as her friends are with her.

Great, but now we need a second season, especially since some characters who will appear in the future have been mentioned. This season is excellent, albeit rather sad, although this sadness was brightened by Kitsune Miko, who even in this episode tried to cheer up Hinako and Shiori, who, by the way, showed how she changes her appearance and age, so that problems in the store with alcohol do not exist for her. This season gets top marks, and those who complain that there is not enough yuri here are probably familiar with very little of this genre.

@Shingster Those were actually lost souls. It kind of reminded me of some of Kikiyo's scenes in Inuyasha. But then many Cultures have this belief, this is also why Shiori pulls her away so quickly. If I had to guess, that was a popular spot for suicides, like the forest at the foot of Mt. Fuji.

In Japan mental illnesses just don't exist.
If they admitted to those conditions being medical reality, about 25-33% of the population would need to be recognized as psychiatric patients and treated for severe depression, chronic alcoholism, sociophobia / hikikomori and extreme chuunibiyu of the Watamote kind, not to mention worse things. Their economy based on "a nail sticking out gets beaten down" mindset would collapse overnight.

Honestly my general thoughts on this show are all over the place, the first few episodes were amazing since everything was still more mysterious but by the end of the show idk im left with a very like dull feeling. I think as a anime its good, my ratings dropped slightly but generally I did like it.

I think if Miko wasn't a part of this show I probably would have dropped my score even further to a 5 or a 4 she's a massive part of the life of this show and makes it way more enjoyable. I do like Hina and Shiori its just as characters Miko is way more enjoyable to watch.

Im just left feeling like where does this show go from here cause its a show with extreme potential but hanging loosely on a thread of being really bad. But yeah generally considering the cast is pretty much only 3 characters its a good show. The psychological aspect and horror aspects good when it wants to be. Now as a girls love im sorry this currently is trash in that regard it quite literally has 0 GL elements to it except for idk Shiori biting Hina's lip that one episode. Compared to Watanare for example its quite literally night or day.

But generally my opinion in short = is good in general, has extreme potential, kinda mid in the GL aspect and without Miko this unironically would have been painful to watch

As for other things like the art style, soundtrack, animation and what not I think generally thats all top tier. The animations nothing crazy but its not at all bad, I really like the art style and man the soundtrack was a huge standout I loved the music for this anime. Especially the opening and some of the ost's on the later episodes.

overall it was good it fell under my initial expectations around the halfway point but I still think its good. A season 2 would be nice but with the exception of Watanare and MahoAko yuri anime literally never get sequels.

low 7/10 one of the weakest yuri anime I've watched but still pretty good in general

My heart literally broke for poor Shiori man. She is enduring so much just to keep Hinako alive for bit longer. At least she realised that, maybe hopefully she can accept it I really hope and pray this two have happy ending 🥲

Mikochan was great today getting annoyed at fish girl and striking back and helping those two sort this out.
I was worried it will be plain old love triangle but this trio in the end far far exceeded my expectations. Everyone deserves so much love.

It was brilliant for the duration of 13 episode and really hit the mark at end. Tbh I watched maybe slightly degenerate thought process but the romance was subtle and glad I was wrong. It was way better. Beautiful visuals, music, art and most importantly the three main characters are outstandingly written. Yuri is doomed so no S2 but hopefully Hinako and Shiori won't be.

Not a very satisfying finale. Didn't really add much to what we already knew, and there wasn't much of a resolution.

I enjoyed how the show took all the time it felt like it needed, but the atmosphere and the themes got stretched a bit too thin at times.

Could've been a great show, but it's just a good one. Now it needs a Season 2 to function as a story. And considering the recent story progress I'm not even sure if the next season will be able to add much to their relationship and the dilemma...

By the way, the trio seems to have traveled to Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture.

Pretty average story. The girls love tag was supet misleading and probably hurts my scoring a bit as there was basically none. A 6/10.

Not a super big fan of this episode.
Leaves me wanting a season 2 tho.

So all I can do is hope.
