I can’t get over how much the episode 2 crazy emotionally intimate first time anal sequence sets up for the entire rest of the show but especially episode 6. we see them joking with each other and horsing around and racing each other up the stairs. the playfulness of oh you missed meeee and mister landlord mister businessman. the warmth and coziness of the setting… the first time they’re not in a hotel room but in shane’s house, just this private sheltered space that feels so safe. the incredible tenderness of the sex scene where so much of it is shot in this way that makes you feel soooo close to them, so right there with them in their feelings, in this suspended-in-time moment that feels totally private and wholly theirs. ilya’s gentleness and shane letting himself fully, fully relax into it. the two of them taking such good care of each other. the stairwell scene after where shane’s just talking to keep him there and ilya’s lingering because he doesn’t want to leave. that KISS and the way shane watches him all drowsy and content. I feel like that scene is what makes shane so sure about ilya later. what enables him to keep muddling forward even when ilya’s fear is making everything so murky and confused and painful between them. that’s shane’s north star memory, man. he doesn’t know how they’re gonna get to where he wants them to be but he knows what it’ll feel like when they get there.
I KNOW Yuna shot up in bed that night like “DAVID THE ELEVATOR. HE WAS IN THE FUCKING ELEVATOR.”
The only good white washing
'Right-wing and centrist Jews hear leftist Jews protest the sins of power, such as the murder, theft, and displacement practiced by the State of Israel, and accuse the critical Jews of not loving the Jewish people, of severing ourselves from the people through our protest.
That accusation severely distorts Rabbinic Judaism almost 180 degrees. There is no commandment to love the collective. There is a commandment to love individual Jews, which is predicated on maintaining an open relationship of correction and rebuke for each other’s wrongdoings: “Any love that is not together with rebuke is not love”. Every individual Jew’s connection to the Jewish collective is a relationship of Divine liability and accountability: our sins are your problem. The only way you can be exonerated is to do your best to protest our sins, to interrupt them to the best of your ability.
For secularized Zionism, a Jew expresses commitment to the Jewish collective by shutting up, complying with abuse of power, and calling that love. For Rabbinic Judaism and, we believe, for God, a Jew expresses commitment and belonging to the Jewish collective by speaking out and objecting to tyrannical behavior and by continuing to affirm that the Jewish people can merit Divine blessings when we fulfill Torah’s expectations of responsible behavior.'
- Rabbi Aryeh Bernstein "Love, Rebuke, and Accountability: What Does it Mean to Have to Love Other Jews?" sermon delivered March 2024
the new york times has such a great series of elevated butter noodles, if you ever want a super fast easy dinner that still feels grown up and you can emulsify pasta water + butter together basically the sky is your limit
ya got
chili crisp fettuccine alfredo
any one of these + a bag of salad or whatever vegetable side you find easiest/cheapest, and you've got yourself a full meal that tastes far above the effort you put in.

Hi, just wondering if you've ever done any studying of quantum physics/quantum mechanics. Seems like the fact that it was proven several decades ago that matter doesn't exist, only energy, and what we experience of the world is only a small fraction of the energy that exists should have some sort of effect on the views of materialists. I'm curious to know what you think of it and what your exposure level to it all is.
Well just because matter isn’t a discreet substance doesn’t make the notion of material reality less useful. Like, it didn’t suddenly make the periodic table useless. Chemistry still works. Newtonian physics still works. The writings of Jabir ibn hayyan and other alchemists that led to modern chemistry are still valuable to study. New paradigms of understanding do not negate the value of previous ones. Science is a body of knowledge that can only grow! The materialists are going strong.
There is a desire, I think, within occultism to find some philosophical angle on quantum physics that will free us from the tyrany of brute physics. A similar thing happened with the discovery of electricity, and again with radiation. Suddenly! The soul is actually electromagnetic waves! No! Now it is alpha-rays! Mesmer swings around again to drag his wonderful magnets over our etheric fluids.
The specifics of quantum reality are interesting! But swing a baseball at my head, and brains will come flying out to chase the gold at the end of gravity's rainbow. Curse the demiurge.
I am deeply in romantic love with the new occultism that pops up in moments of technological advances. “No telephone in heaven” and the boundary layer proving the existence of angels and burning petroleum is a form of necromancy using dragons that died millions of years ago to travel to the surface of the moon I just love that shit so much
Maria Skłodowska-Curie's notebooks are crazy once you think about it. They're so radioactive they have to be sealed in a lead box. Imagine a world where atomic theory is forgotten and a dude just goes "yea there's a book that details the secrets of the universe, the machinations of the creation of existence down to its barest essentials, but if you get close to it you fucking die. The more you read it the more your body slowly disassembles into mush." like wat excuse me
After the hell of the past two days, this reminded me of what America could and should be about. It’s a little pocket of hope when our administration is trying to extinguish diversity and community and basic human decency and replace them with fear and hate and division.
What is truly astonishing is that the administration thought this video would exonerate Ross and support the administration’s insistence that he was under attack from a domestic terrorist trying to ram him with her car. The video was leaked to a right-wing news site, and Vance reposted it with the caption: “What the press has done in lying about this innocent law enforcement officer is disgusting. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.” The Department of Homeland Security reposted Vance’s post.
As senior editor of Lawfare Media Eric Columbus commented: “Do Vance and DHS think we can’t actually watch the video?” Multiple social media users noted that Good’s last words to Ross were “That’s fine. I’m not mad at you,” while his to her, after he shot her in the face, were “F*cking b*tch!”
The release of this damning video as an attempted exoneration reminds me overwhelmingly of the release of the video of the murder of Black jogger Ahmaud Arbery in February 2021
In the case of the murder of Renee Good, the shooter and his protectors are clearly so isolated in their own authoritarian bubble they cannot see how regular Americans would react to the video of a woman smiling at a masked agent and saying: “That’s fine, dude. I’m not mad at you,” only to have him shoot her in the face and then spit out “F*cking bitch” after he killed her.
The thread that runs through both is the assumption that an American exercising their constitutional rights must submit, without question, to a white man holding a gun.
This is the larger meaning of federal agents from Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol in U.S. cities. While they are attacking primarily people of color, the message they carry is directed at all Americans: you must do what the Trump administration and its loyalists demand.
On December 31, Drew Harwell and Joyce Sohyun Lee of the Washington Post reported that ICE was investing $100 million on what it called a “wartime recruitment” strategy to hire thousands of new officers. It planned to target gun rights supporters and military enthusiasts as well as those who listen to right-wing radio shows, directing ads to people who have gone to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fights or shopped for guns and tactical gear. It planned to send ads to the phone web browsers and social media feeds of people near military bases, NASCAR races, gun and trade shows, or college campuses, apparently not considering them the hotbeds of left-wing indoctrination right-wing politicians claim.
They're actively recruiting right-wing losers who want blood. The outcomes we're seeing here are by design. You can't shame them or appeal to their sense of duty because they have none. This is fun for them.
extremely eerie and unsettling how the hive framed the joining as a ritualistic process, even if it was at kusimayu’s request, and then abruptly stopped singing the moment she joined. that was the very last instance of her culture existing on earth and they couldn’t even finish the song

OKAY WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO HERE IS TALK ABOUT WHO THIS MAN IS. BUCKLE THE FUCK UP.
This is Harrison Browne. He's a trans man, activist, actor, former pro, and the first openly transgender athlete in professional hockey. He came out in 2016 when he played for the now-defunct NWHL's Buffalo Beauts. The same season he came out, he went on to win the NWHL's Isobel Cup championship. A year later, he did it again. When he retired in order to medically transition, he retired as a champion.
In 2025 he and his sister Rachel Browne wrote a book everyone should read called Let Us Play: Winning The Battle for Gender Diverse Athletes. He's an icon, a trailblazer, and a goddamned delight. Hockey is better for having him anywhere near it.
He's also written and directed an autobiographical film that premiered last year at TIFF!
