The GOAT of package consolidation

I've had a few packages shipped through Blackship and they consistently exceed my expectations regarding packaging my items safely and timely friendly communication every step of the way. Shipping is expensive but worth the cost especially with the crazy changes happening in the world of international shipping. I strongly recommend them!

Good Interface and Ease-of-use

I am happy with the response time of the company as I ordered some items from Japan and the was able to forward the package to me with no issues.
Additionally, the website is easy to use and easy to understand.
Overall, i had a good experience using Blackship as a forwarder.

Forced USD billing is a major step backward for international customers

I was a long-term European customer and used Blackship regularly. Recently, they switched all accounts to USD-only billing and no longer support other currencies.

For non-US customers, this means additional exchange fees and worse rates, with no option to opt out or choose an alternative currency. While I understand business considerations, forcing USD on an international customer base clearly prioritizes US users and disadvantages everyone else.

This change was implemented without meaningful choice and has made the service less fair and less attractive for international customers. Because of this, I’m moving back to a competitor that continues to support multi-currency payments.

Very disappointing decision from a service I previously liked and recommended.

Hi Pau, we hear you, and we apologize for the lack of clarity in our initial rollout. The switch to USD has always been about eliminating a hidden 'double-conversion' markup, meaning your total cost is lower now. We GUARANTEE your total shipping costs are now lower in USD than they were a week ago in Euros. As a long time customers, you should have more faith in us. 😀

But we recognize that choice is just as important as the math. To fix this, we are currently investigating Stripe Adaptive Pricing, which allows you to choose one of many currencies at checkout, giving you both the best possible rates and the flexibility you prefer. Stay tuned for further announcements.

Blackship is awful…

My experience with Blackship was extremely frustrating and unprofessional.

Over the course of several weeks, Blackship repeatedly insisted that certain shipping “regulations” required documentation that, in reality, did not exist or were not legally applicable to the items being shipped. When pressed for citations or confirmation from the carrier, these requirements continually shifted rather than being clarified.

They also demanded confidential manufacturer information (including safety documentation) without being able to explain why this information was legally required, or how it would be protected. This placed me in the position of being asked to violate a supplier’s confidentiality policies without justification.

More concerning was the operational handling of the shipment itself. I was charged for international shipping and explicitly told that the item had been shipped. In fact, no shipment had occurred at all. The package sat in a warehouse for nearly a month without meaningful communication, updates, or transparency. A shipment status was marked in a way that implied progress, despite nothing actually moving.

During this time, I had to initiate nearly all communication myself. There was no proactive disclosure that the item had not shipped, no timely explanation for delays, and no accountability for incorrect statements about shipment status.

In short:
• Non-existent or misrepresented regulatory requirements
• Requests for confidential manufacturer information without justification
• Shipping charges collected before shipping occurred
• False or misleading shipment status updates
• Extended warehouse delays with minimal communication

I expected a professional forwarding service that understands international shipping requirements and communicates clearly. Instead, I experienced confusion, misinformation, and a lack of basic operational transparency.

Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Blackship

And now they posted a response with confidential information about my private business for all the world to see. Never use them if you hope to receive your items or have privacy.

We take all feedback seriously, but we must correct the record regarding the specific claims made here, as they do not reflect the reality of your transaction.

1. On 'False' Shipping Charges: You were not charged for international shipping. At checkout, you selected 'Pick up from Blackship' (a local warehouse handover) which costs approx. $15. International shipping would have cost over $75. When you realized your error, we immediately refunded the pickup fee. We cannot ship a package when the customer explicitly selects 'Pickup.'

2. On 'Non-Existent' Regulations: You attempted to ship items you later admitted in writing had a 'low flash point.' In aviation safety, a low flash point is the definition of a flammable, hazardous material. This is not a 'Blackship rule'; it is IATA Law. We cannot bypass Dangerous Goods regulations simply because an item is re-labeled from 'Perfume' to 'Essential Oil.'

3. On 'Confidential' Information: A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is a standard safety document required for air cargo, not a trade secret. In fact, we contacted the manufacturer on your behalf, and they were willing to provide the SDS. We were ready to facilitate this approval for you.

We understand it is frustrating when hazardous materials cannot be shipped as easily as general goods, but we prioritize aviation safety and legal compliance above all else.

Very slow processing times

However, we don’t sell or manufacture glasses, nor do we add prescriptions. We simply forward items exactly as purchased by the customer in Japan. If the glasses arrived without a prescription, it means they were ordered that way at the time of purchase. We always ship items as-is, based on the customer’s order details.
