Late autumn delicacies for this comforting tsumugi (rough silk) obi. I love how the warm orange of the kaki (persimmon) and zakuro (pomegranate) pops!

Sleek dark autumnal hues for this outfit, pairing a bold asanoha (stylized hemp leaves) kimono, and a striking golden zakuro (pomegranate) obi.

The star is the black haori, showing crawling karasuuri (Japanese snake gourd), its leaves and fruits with inner patterns. I like how the hyotan (bottle gourd) obidome compliments the haori pattern!

Bountyful autumnal delicacies for this antique outfit pairing a deep red kimono and a black based obi.

Fruits depicted here are: zakuro (pomegranate), nashi (pear), budou (grape), ringo (apple), and what I assume is biwa (loquat).

Notice the the rare gourmet food that is the pineapple - exotic/unusual patterns like this one where especially fashionable pre wwii!

Lavish obi with beautiful zakuro (pomegranate) embroidered on black base.

The embroidery is quite unusual, with a lot of different stiches bringing texture to the design.

Romantic jewel tones for this antique autumn outfit featuring juicy zakuro (pomegranate) kimono and obi.

Zakuro is not part of “traditional” kimono patterns (they are mostly a symbol used in Buddhism). You mostly find them as “modern” (=late Meiji/Taisho and so on) novelty motifs, like for this kimono (the gracefully long sleeves marking it as pre wwii).

  • Once again great art by Kigisu, evocative of a folktale “Old Japan”, depicting the eerie kijo (demoness) of pomegranate tree

  • Soothing earth hues for this outfit, featuring a vinatge kimono with a delicate leaves pattern, paired with an antique obi depicting a fruits+flowers basket (I see beautiful zakuro/pomegrante and kaki/persimmon, and what seems to be momo/peach)
