My children have absolutely loved Rocksteady. They have developed brand new skills, worked collaboratively as part of their bands and really enhanced their confidence and self belief. It’s been fantastic watching the little concerts that have been organised and how much my kids’ faces light up when they are on stage.
Just to let you know he hates Music lessons at school but LOVES Rocksteady with his band and your work for 2 years .
Carter his mate, joined his band as well due to his his experience.
Absolutely terrible company- you are literally giving these people money and your child is getting minimal (if that) in return. They like to use their 'minimum lessons' clause to justify lost sessions and why they wont refund you, paying a massive sum for a 30minute lesson in a group setting. They wont refund you when the instructor is off, unless you persevere and even then its a shambles. This program and company is a rip off and schools are in my humble opinion foolish to employ them. In my case the leader logged my son present when he wasnt, and logged absent when in school, lied about certain situations in the summer term which resulted in my son being told he couldnt do the end of term performance as had not seen him all summer term, then changed his story when I challenged it all - i urge parents to claim back for missed or lost sessions especially if known absences like paternity leave have occured, you should have been refunded for thise.
Our son has loved rock steady. He’s really found himself and as an extra curricular activity, it’s been perfect.

There are definite benefits to Rocksteady and there’s no doubt at all my son enjoys the classes but there’s also some real downsides.
On the benefits
It does build confidence
It’s great the kids learn to work together and make new friendships
The concerts for parents are good
On the downside
There are a lot of changes at short notice, changes to who is taking the class with little consistency
Classes frequently get cancelled
Progress seems quite slow
All that said, our son does enjoy it.

We had a great experience with the recent Rocksteady concert in school.
We enjoyed watching our children perform confidently. The band leader was amazingly patient supporting and teaching our children to learn and love music. My son loves singing and he was one of the vocals and thoroughly enjoyed the songs with his band members. It’s my first time to see my son sing in front of others and he was really confident. Thank you to the team (Rocksteady) for this amazing performance!

Musical progress is minimal and offers very poor value for money.

My daughter has had a wonderful first term with Rocksteady. She has picked up so many musical skills already and the concert at the end of term was absolutely amazing! The musical leaders were so encouraging to all of the musicians and the children were all clearly having so much fun. A wonderful experience for them all to perform in public like that. Thank you and she is really looking forward to what this term has in store for her!

My son has been attending this program for almost two years and is one of two drummers in his band. The band consists of nine kids, and the lesson is only 30 minutes once a week—so you can imagine how little individual attention each child receives during a session.
A few times last year, and three times since September of this year, my son asked to be taken out of the program. Each time, I encouraged him to continue and give it another chance. Unfortunately, the reason he no longer enjoys it is the instructor’s approach. The instructor is often short-tempered when the kids make mistakes, and today my son was not allowed to continue the lesson after being told off for a mistake during practice.
Considering this is a paid service and designed for children, I find this behavior unacceptable. The kids are actually doing very well given the minimal attention and limited practice time they receive. On top of that, after nearly two years, the children are still unable to read sheet music or demonstrate basic music knowledge, as they are not taught these fundamentals at all.
Overall, this experience has been very disappointing.

My son absolutely loves his lessons lead by Jack. He’s gained so much confidence and performed his first concert with pride and was absolutely buzzing. He only recently joined since he started year 1 and he reports back with enthusiasm after every lesson, even told me all the different parts of the drum which blew my mind as usually all the info I get from him after school is “I had a ham sandwich” 😆 we particularly love the aspect of learning in the band setting and that they’re learning to play music from bands like AC/DC, Guns n Roses, it’s just awesome! Thank you Jack and thank you Rocksteady.

This music school could be excellent if they actually delivered any classes. We have had a terrible experience with them, we have been paying full monthly price since the start of the school year in September 2025, but the Rocksteady instructor has had some personal problems and about 7-8 classes (7 weeks out approximately 12) have been cancelled within a 4 months period. Rocksteady failed to find a replacement instructor within this time, but also refused to refund parents for the lost classes. Rocksteady continues to take full payments regardless, while delivering about 50% of the classes. When you call them, the customer service is not great, they tell you that as long as they deliver a total of 33 weekly sessions over the school year, you still have to pay the full price. This equates to them being able to cancel about 1-2 weekly sessions per month and still being entitled to full monthly payments. These are their terms of business as they work as a sort of yearly subscription scheme, so you have to continue paying whether you receive the service or not. This translates into a very expensive handful of classes over a 4 month period, and a very disappointed little boy week after week. We have just had about enough of this, but our little boy really enjoys it when it actually happens, so against all common sense, we are giving it one last chance starting now in January 2026. However, if they continue with these poor service levels we will undoubtedly have to permanently cancel and walk away. We cannot continue paying them to deliver nothing or very little for our hard earnt money.
UPDATE: I have contacted Rocksteady 4-5 times already and I have been told basically the same every time (as above). Only one £10 credit has been offered, which is really a negligible amount, considering that from September to December 2025 we have paid circa £200 to receive about 50% of the classes. When Rocksteady offered catch up sessions, they were cancelled as well at short notice, so they did not happen. The worst thing is that the December concert was also cancelled because they had had hardly any practice plus the instructor was not available for the concert. This is very disappointing for the kids.

Watching our son enthusiastically play the drums, his instrument of choice, with a band was such a wonderful experience.

Daz visits my school every Friday and is a really friendly chap who is great with the children. He brings great energy to the termly concerts. The children, staff and parents thoroughly enjoy these sessions. Thank you Daz!

My grandchildren have only been doing Rocksteady with Daz for a couple of months. They had their first concert just before Christmas. I had the pleasure of watching them and seeing how well they have gained confidence and learned new skills, in such a short space of time. I highly recommend signing you children up.

My child has been playing the keyboard for 12 months now. He is engaging in each session.
He loves the approach the teacher takes.
We have found the experience rewarding for our child.

What made our experience great : in one word - Daz !
He gives our children the opportunity to participate in a unique experience that we could not sadly offer within the curriculum. Their self-confidence develops week on week and this is a pleasure to see. Daz is always positive, kind and dedicated to their development.

My daughter has been playing bass guitar with Rocksteady with Daz for 3 years. My husband and I are both classically trained musicians so the way she learns is very different to our musical education. She hasnt made that much technical progress but she has learnt a lot about ensemble playing. She did comment that her part was very easy and so she asked Daz to give her more challenge for the recent concert which he did. She loves performing at school and had one of the biggest smiles in the school during most of the concert. I want to say a special thank you for this. Daz may not know that she has struggled a lot with anxiety this term and says she doesn't enjoy any of the lessons or want to be at school at all, so having Rocksteady helps her want to be part of her school community and she is less resistant to coming to school on Rocksteady day.
