Poor management

I bought a new build house. SSE is the default supplier. The developer provided a wrong metre reading. I have provided hard evidence. SSE forced me to pay the wrong bill. Poor management and customer service.

I am currently on a pay as you go meter for my gas with SSE & because they are taking too much for arrears from me every time I top up, I can't afford to top up my gas, I haven't had any hot water now for at least 3 months! The only reason I have arrears is because SSE tried to fit me a smart meter twice, and then said they couldn't fit one! All the while my arrears are rising to £500.

Absolute shambles of a company

Absolute shambles of a company. We were on a pre-payment meter, for a year our top up card wouldn’t work so we had to call them every time we needed to top up, and they are pretty much impossible to get hold of. No response to complaints, once we did manage to speak to someone we were promised the problem had been resolved, however when it inevitably reoccurred the next person we spoke to had no idea what was going on. It caused so much stress, I was nearly in tears every time I knew I had to call them. In addition to this when we moved out they hit us with a £100 exit bill for ‘debts owed’ (I thought the point of a pre-payment meter was so you couldn’t get into debt), obviously have never been able to speak to anyone to query it! I would leave zero stars if I could.

Absolute scumbag organisation

Absolute scumbag organisation. Initially didn't allow us to switch energy company for some reason when we first moved into our flat
The took months to set up our direct debit because they didn't have our address in our system. We eventually moved away, cancelled our account and resolved our balance. Then 5 months later they set up a new account in our name that we never agreed to and somehow decided we had accrued a balance to that account, even though we hadn't been a customer with them for 5 months. Tried contact their customer services. Here I was directed to phone them is I did and we agreed over the phone that the balance had been settled. However over the coming months they continued chasing the balance that they had agreed with didn't owe. Several months later this is still ongoing and I've taken to speaking to their customer services via email so we have everything down in writing. I've asked to explain how we can have accrued a balance into an account we never had 5 months after we closed our account with them. They failed to answer this question and have now stopped responding to me whilst still sending us letter saying we owe them money.

I had problems accessing my online account to give my latest meter reading and telephoned OVO . The lady who answered was very helpful ,polite and patient and approachable. As a retired civil servant who was once the team leader of a fuel direct team in the DHSS, I can appreciate good customer service which I received today. Well done !!

A rude arrogant boiler man

A rude, arrogant boiler man named MATTHEW who did not do his job right and properly and even accused me of tampering our combi-boiler all we did was to put a bucket underneath the boiler for the water leak. He was so rude and raised his voice on me that my children got so worried and cried, I had to get out of my own house otherwise I would have killed him. He left without fixing our boiler, no heating, no hot water, but our consolation is no water leak! Happy days! My area is Newport Gwent

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

was with this company just under a year in a small flat, every 2 months the bill they sent was incorrect, either too high or too low. impossible to communicate with, rude, arrogant, unhelpful and terrible comms. after 6 months of fighting them off demanding 1560 pound bill, they finally admitted it was only 298 pounds. I Gave them e second chance, 2 months later I closed the account as moved house and they demanded 1660 pounds! they admitted over the phone it was incorrect, then proceeded to lie to ombudsman about this and hide the evidence of the recorded call. so ombudsman couldn't help me out and i was forced to pay, when my account shoed before closure that i was 200 pounds in credit. poor, poor, poor company, no idea how they are still in business and this is clearly how they make money taking advantage and hoping people will just pay. also the call centres they use are impossible, no training or guidance for them to help you out. very very poor avoid this provider at all costs

It is impossible to get through to…

It is impossible to get through to anyone to sort out the mess of my commercial account. I have been waiting for 50 mins now for anyone to answer the phone, same the last time I called, I had to give up. In spite of having a smart meter, they have estimated the reading using a ridiculously high number and then tried to collect the money which bounced as there is insufficient funds in the account. I sent an e-mail using their online form but that did nothing. I would advise anyone wanting to use a commercial account to avoid this company.

Impossible to pay my bill

I switched to SSE for my business electricity supplier which in itself was fairly easy.

However when it comes to paying the bill, it seems impossible.

I received a letter confirming that direct debit had been set up and would be collected on a specific date - this passed and payment has not even been attempted.

Their online billing system is absolutely useless and very non-user-friendly. Despite their letters stating that they are open on a Saturday, they aren't. So I reverted to emailing them, which 7 days later they haven't bothered to respond to either.

I can only assume that they don't want to receive any payments, which suits me just fine. Over to you SSE, if you're bothered.

Down right Criminal!

I noticed a missing final statment from my parents records for their old property so called SSE to investigate in April 2023. When i did it became apparent their final read was wrong and whole host of issues with the supposedly finalled account.

I was advised a final bill was owed so went to pay it, luckily i noticed there was another mistake so called back raised a complaint to resolve it. This was closed without autherisation or resolution.

Called back again and again and eventually spoke with their escalations team, the adviser who was actually decent agreed with the errors i advised and took steps to rectify resulting in the large false debt being cleared and recalled from agents and for what waas now a large credit to be refunded with a little compensation.

Thought great finally done with.

Anyway compensation cheque recieved but no refund. Chased up the issues time and time again. Still not resolved so went to Ofgem.

Ofgem did their thing and set out what need to be done begining of Sept 2023.

Again, thought great it's finally done with.

Few weeks later my parents recieved another bill from them no explinations etc, sent a few emails to SSE again chasing the issue. No response, contact Ofgem again who have chased SSE once more.

Now in October and still no response from SSE.

It is an absolute joke that this is still ongoing when they are quick enough to demand payment but not very quick to refund. Not to mention the hours trying to speak with someone, the hang ups and all the other issues.

Down right Criminal.

********PLEASE RUN

********PLEASE RUN. NEVER USE SSE IF YOU DON'T WANT HEART ACHE!!! ***************

Who on earth is giving this company more than one star or are they buying the reviews?

This is the WORST company I have ever dealt with.

1. They will over-charge you and add numerous unjustified charges to your bill.

2. Their key departments have no phone - they answer your email often after over a week.

3. Their customer service staff are untrained and rude.

4. Their managers are so pompous that you CAN NEVER speak to them or will they ever agree to call you back.

5. Their customer service staff behave like robots- just reading to you the same useless script.

I spent near 2 months on calls and endless emails to no avail on an issue that will take other energy companies e.g. British Gas 3 days or less to resolve!

How I wish I can give them zero star.

INDEED THE WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!!!!

Vile company I would never recommend

Vile company I would never recommend!
Leased a property that they had turned the electric off to and called to get it restored so that we could start renovations, my partner was told by an advisor that if we didn’t produce the lease we would be liable for the previous tenants unpaid bills, I called back and spoke to somebody and when I pointed out that we could provide proof of our identity and they had the previous tenants name on file and therefore couldn’t be billed for her and told them I do not appreciate scare tactics and the advisor had no clue what to say. Now they will not reconnect unless we pay a reconnection fee and all the standing charges for it being empty! We did not accrue these charges but they have you over a barrel as to start renovations we need power, the worst part is there is no power to the property do they have done nothing to justify charging the standing charges and then having to pay to reconnect when the shut off had nothing to do with us. They obviously do not support businesses and only care for their greedy selves, it’s fair to say I cannot wait to be able to switch and get away from them!

Edit as it gets worse:

They won’t reconnect us for 6 weeks and want us to pay a large deposit for if we don’t pay so we are now being penalised for another persons actions that we don’t even know

SSE 'Trust us Bro'

We had the Switch from SSE to OVO.We were told that it would be a simple change with our PAYG Smart Meter. Electricity went off at 16.50. Spent the next 4 hours on hold and turning my meter on and off. Finally we were sent an electrician and he had to replace our Smart Meter with a key meter (he was brilliant by the way) and we were told we would get the credit that we lost refunded. That was months ago now. We have had 5 different statement delivered ranging from us owing SSE £90 to SSE owing us £60. The last statement that I have now received twice says that SSE owed up about £290 and some pence, but coincidentally that's the exact amount we owe SSE, so we're all square. The statements make zero sense, it says we get £30 compensation for a missed engineer visit that never happened and when I ring to try and find out what the statement means and why we owe money, I get the equivalent of 'trust us bro' So I give up.
