Macbook air (2018/9)- sticky spacebar
dropped of macbook to Brent Cross store for a repair, told it will take max 2 weeks to get product back but engineer report will be emailed along with quote if the product was water damaged. Given that I am 100% certain there is no water damage, I handed over MacBook and received an email immediately with tracking details. 2 weeks later I get a call from Brent Cross ( a genius!!) vm left asking to call back. Eventually got through to the store today to be told that its the battery that is causing the problem and of course! that's not covered (I actually don't know what is covered by warranty), I thought is was a bit odd that the perfectly functioning battery was the cause of the sticky spacebar! Anyway told it could cost £200 - suppose that's better than the £400 for the keyboard. however the engineer would need to look at this now???
asked the genius if he could email me the engineers report and costing as I am not able to take calls and any vm will mean me calling them back, so the best way to communicate is by email only to be told by genius that due to GDPR he can't email and has to call, so I told him to update my consent and that I no longer give apple permission to contact me by phone, he tells me can't do this. I will take this up with Information commissioner later but apple is the biggest rip off ever! happy to take your money but appalling customer services. What really makes me angry is that the model of MacBook I have has been listed as having this faulty keyboard issue and all repairs are without charge (but then I am relying on their honesty at diagnostic stage to benefit from this) good luck to anyone who has to have an item repaired by apple.
