I have a two-fold answer for you. With What Grace Washed Up (the second book in the series, but the first one I wrote) I did. I think growing up exposed to pastors and so many other male Christian figures made it easy to write Ben. I really wanted to show the humanity behind the pastor. That he's going to make mistakes too, because he's a human being. So while writing Ben's POV was easy and comfortable, I got to Kip in What Love Washed Up and WOW. Whole different story. I can remember making a legitimate panicked phone call to a writing friend saying, "I couldn't even flirt with a boy in college, muchless be a male player hitting on a girl!!!" (Ironically that scene didn't even make it into the book!) There were so many times I had to write, "WITTY COMMENT HERE" and move on because I'm not male and I'm not very witty in the moment. With Kip, James, and Jason (and more characters to come in book 5) there have been lots of questions asked to my husband, friends, father, and even perhaps random people on the street. Hey, a writer's gotta do what a writer's gotta do! ;)(less)

Cute premise. I did chuckle a few times, but not as much as I normally do with a Kinzer book. I definitely enjoyed all the Christmas-y aspects, and I really liked the individual characters. The book itself is a four-star rating. However, to give a fa ...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. It covers some extremely hard topics--abortion, shame, and loneliness--but does a great job of being uplifting and encouraging in the faith aspect, so it doesn't get too heavy and overwhelming. Overall, the message ...more

This was by far my favorite of the series! I read it in one day because I could not put it down. The way the two stories were interwoven was so beautiful and had me captivated from start to finish. This is honestly one of the best Christian ficti" Read more of this review »
