The cover is shit
PNR are all the same
Moon Called is still good.
What could be better than a Haiku review?
Well, other than a proper review, I guess...
The thing is, I did REALLY enjoy this book - it has a lot to recommend itself to readers with. Mercy is a nice character. She's not a complete badass but she's not a push over either.
There's a mystery - though the mystery was interesting it all came up kind of lame in the end.
The writing is pretty good and even though the world building is stock-standard, it was a fun read.
I guess the reason there isn't much to say is that these stories all tend to blend in together now.
Mercy, Merit, Mac, Cat, Elena, Dru, Rose, Sunshine, Kate...
Hell, I had to look up half the names because I'd forgotten them! It kind of makes me sad because, really, none of the above heroines really stick out from each other. They're all badass when they need to be, stubborn, strong, intelligent. There's nothing really individual about them. They all have some sort of super powers and attract the attention of some very nice literary eye candy.
I'm kind of waiting for a PNR character to stick out a bit. Why is it that the men in this genre as so much more interesting than the women? Clayton's a crazy, antisocial werewolf - I'd never have to look up his name. Barrons is mysterious and totally three different kinds of awesome! Curran is violent and overbearing but has that whole bad-tempered, territorial softie going for him while Ethan, with his shrivelled, black heart is fascinating because you slowly watch his humanity return. Then there's Bones who is probably the most unique out of them all.
Yet the men are all kind of the same too. They're all violent. At least it's an undercurrent of violence that hums beneath the surface. They're all painfully dominant, macho and likely to step all over the heroine if she doesn't use her attitude to make them back off. They all come to grudgingly respect their respective partners and are really passionate and demonstrative of their emotions.
The most annoying trend of these books is that, in all likelihood, I will need to wait until book 4 before any horizontal, nekkid tangoing occurs!
So whilst I will, no doubt, read the rest of this series and love every minute of it, I can’t help but bemoan the fact that it, so far, provides nothing new or interesting in a genre which proves that you literally can Write-By-Numbers.

Kat! Loved the t-rex! I had a really hard time writing a review for this book. I had read Waking the Witch and Moon Called the same week and I was in the Pacific Northwest at the time. It all melded together for me. You are so right about the male characters and waiting for book 4 for any kind of nookie. Must be the formula to follow for all UF writers. Great review, you always leave me smiling.
Ahahahaha, I hit the button. (Though what came to mind when I saw the "Hit the button, bitch!" I was kind of reminded of "It's Britnay bitch" which sent me reeling to the floor.
Jessica is right, the series gets better. I am alternating it with the Alpha Omega series and it actually seems to fit reading it that way as the characters move from one book to the next.
I'd like to recommend Nicole Peeler and Seannan McGuire. I read a lot of paranormal too and both of these authors have series that really stand out for me.
Ethan is from Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires series. The first book in that series is Friday Night Bites (I think! Can't quite remember.)
Adding to my too- read list! =)

Ohhh...That Ethan. I can't believe I forgot. Yes, def hot but I think I'm becoming more of a were/beast lover. I hope Merit doesn't let him off easy after his freakout in the last book (even though the way he tried 2 make up for it was sweet & a little predictable)
Sarah wrote: Bones? from which series is he? great review.
Bones is from the hottest vampire ongoing series Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost. And by hottest I mean lots of smex :D
Oh, it would make much more sense if she meant Ethan. Because as of his 2012 cameo in Fair Game, Adam Hauptman was alive and kicking.
Adam better not be killed off!
Are you talking about Rose from the Vampire Academy books because I don't see how she are would blend together with other heroines. To be comepletely honest, I don't know how any of the heroines are forgettable. I loved all of them ( although Cat's my favorite so far) and they all have something about them that makes them stand out at least in my opinion. I mean, would they really be so popular if they didn't have something about them that set them apart from other heroines and made people want to read about them?
Clayton - Kelley Armstrong Women of the Otherworld series - BittenCurran - Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews - Magic Bites
Barrons - Fever Series - Karen Moning - Darkfever
Enjoy!

I was just about to ask about these guys. Thanks for the reply.
@Kat: Great review!
I have SUCH trouble distinguishing Kate and Cat. Mercy, to me, is a little nicer lol. At least in this book. :P Maybe I need to read each PNR/UF all the way through to help individualize the heroines. You're right though. The men are far more easy to pick out.
what other series did you allude to? I absolutely loved the Mercy Thompson series and the Anita Blake series... really like the werewolf stuff... sounds like you could suggest all sorts of new reads for me.
I have no idea who any of those female leads are except for Mercy and Kate. I mostly read male-lead UF, and am working on some female-lead books. Personally, I LOVE Kate. I was super unsure about Curran for about three books. I love him now, because we get to see beyond the Psychopathic, Blood Thirsty, Control Freak Beast Lord facade he puts on. Well, I say "facade." He's actually all of those things, except psychopath. It's just that his positive qualities balance those out now that we really know him. Kate is the one that kept me going for those books, and now it's the pair of them, along with the quality writing, supporting characters, and snark. The Ilona Andrews team have really written some truly phenomenal supporting characters.Kate has more character development in seven books, and less than 2-3 years, than most characters have in twice as many. This review was written four years ago, so I'm going to assume most of her memorable qualities hadn't happened yet.
But seriously, who are the other female leads? I must know!
Ps loved the review.
