bookshelves: never-gonna-happen

I was intrigued but then I read some reviews that say this is basically a pornographic, narcissistic memoir-in-disguise and I just don't have time for that crap.

I get the idea that this is supposed to make you feel sorry for the guy but seems like it fails miserably.

Perfectly content to skip this one.

Bard Hovenga You’re making a mistake. Those reviews are dead wrong. This is the best book I’ve read this year.

Appreciate your feedback! It really doesn't sound like my kind of book at all, but if I see it in a bookstore I'll flick through and read some random excerpts just to be sure I'm not missing out.

Kim McFayden You’ve left a review of your decision not to read a book. Really?

Yes. You'll notice I didn't include a star rating. I have an exclusive shelf for books I won't read, and I like to explain why I've decided I won't read it.

Melissa Radel So you're dead set on not reading something based on what some people say, but refuse to listen to the ones that have truly enjoyed the book. Doesn't make sense to me, but it's your loss.

Interesting assumptions! If you read my response to Bard above, you'll see I'm not refusing to listen at all.

I'm perfectly open to people attempting to change my mind, but you're gonna need a stronger argument than, 'doesn't make sense to me'.

Jason Phillips This book is not an attempt to make people feel sorry for him. It didn't make me feel that way. It's really good though.

Appreciate your feedback! I'm becoming more and more open to reading it lol

Jason Phillips I wasn't trying to convince you to read it. Different people like different things for different reasons. I can definitely see why some people will not like this one. There's lots of sex and profanity in it. However, if you do decide to give it a try, i'd suggest the audiobook. James Frey narrates it himself, which adds something to the book in my opinion.

The profanity is a big factor in why I'm avoiding it, so I'm still leaning towards no but now it's becoming controversial so I'm less of an outright 'not gonna happen' haha. I don't do audio books but appreciate the suggestion!

Jason Phillips This one probably has more profanity than just about any other novel.

Damion The reviews are definitely wrong. This book is not perfect. At times the writing is very strong and passionate. Really it's a novel about remembering being young as opposed to middle aged.

Fun fact: I actually picked it up at a bookstore a few weeks back and had a flick through, read a few pages here and there and can confirm there is no way I'm gonna read this haha. It was SO TERRIBLE.

Craig Spraggon Havent read it but need to tell us your opinion anyway......speaking of narcissism

An interesting opinion, Craig! In actuality, whenever I add a book to my 'never gonna happen' shelf I like to write a few words to remind myself why.
