Alright. 2nd time around with this one! And mostly because the audiobook was available at my library and I needed something kinda fluffy.
So.
What's better than a teenage romance between a human girl and the alien boy next door?
Nothing. That's what.

I'm kidding.
Kind of.
Yes, this was super cheesy and sounded a bit dated. The narrator sounded far too breathy and sexy for a teenage girl who was supposedly a book nerd with a review vlog.
And then the cover for the audio was just terrible. Or terribly funny, depending on how you choose to see things. I personally cringe-laughed every time I saw it.
There are just so many things wrong with that picture. The wife-beater he's wearing as though he were a middle-aged man who has given up on life, the fact that he's supposedly unnaturally ripped in the book and that kid on the cover looks like he has the potential to be slightly flabby, and whatever the fuck she's doing with her face just made me kinda giggle.
I think she's saying, I just ate a bag of Funyuns...

Anyway. I still liked it. And by that, I mean that I realize it's not actually anything but a bunch of cliches wrapped in far too much angst. I know this book is laughable. And I'm not recommending it! But I enjoyed it in that way that I sometimes dig those stupid Hallmark romances or a corny tv show. I don't wanna like them. But I do.

You wouldn't believe what I went through to get this book!
I had to go to a separate section of my library and request an interlibrary loan.
It's a big deal, people!
I had to wait and wait and wait like a month for them to call me (that's right, folks...no email notification available for this kind of thing), and then pick it up at a 'special' desk.
And I can't return it in the book drop...it must go back to the 'special' desk. Once I've returned the book safely, I can have the blood and urine sample I gave them back.
Shhhh....
The joke's on them, 'cause I had my kid pee in the cup!
And the blood?
"..."
Look, I told that guy to stop letting his dog piss on my tires.
Anyway.
So was it worth it?
Why, yes. Yes, it was.
I'm not going to lie to you and say I didn't roll my eyes at some of the teen stuff, but it's a YA alien romance.
I knew that going into it, so there's no real room for me to complain.
But it was cute, and even though I thought the poor girl was totally clueless about the rudeness of her hot alien neighbor, it didn't affect my enjoyment much.
In fact, I liked it enough to take more of my (so they think) DNA samples back to the library and request the next two books in the series.

Just met the author and cover model of this series recently. Sparked my interest in the books, so I may be checking it out pretty soon.
*faints*Do the cover models normally wander around with the authors? If so, I need to go to more book signings!
How do they not have email notification? That seems...bizarre. I always thought it was way easier to email someone than call or mail them when their loan came in.
They email me for everything else, but when I did an inter-library loan, they used to call. I rarely do them anymore, because now my library charges $2.50 for each of the IL loans. So. I figure the e-book will go on sale (or I'll find a cheap copy somewhere) for about the cost of the loan. I mean, why not own it for that price? At least that way, I can give it away to someone else or loan it out.

I figure the..."Wow. That's the first library I've heard of that charges the patron, just seems odd. I mean, I can't imagine too many people aren't going to do the same as you and then no one uses it except for I guess genealogy requests and obscure stuff like that.
Your library must be insane. If my library were to do that, they'd have to be less stingy with their money and actually order books when I ask.
Well, in their defense, I think a lot of books were being stolen. And since it's only interlibrary loans, I don't mind. But yeah. Not paying.
Anne wrote: "Well, in their defense, I think a lot of books were being stolen. And since it's only interlibrary loans, I don't mind. But yeah. Not paying."That would make sense. I still can't quite wrap my mind around the idea of stealing from a library, when you could just...check it out but that's people for you I guess.
Unbelievable, right? But yeah, I've checked out lots of books that go missing within a year. Comics especially.
Yeah it's probably a tie between our DVDs, CDs and comic books for what gets stolen most. We've had to replace the Locke and Key series three times. THREE times! Library thieves are super lame.
Ouch! I bet DVDs are hard to keep hold of. I have Yoga for Dummies & Throne of Atlantis checked out right now. It's such an awesome way to 'rent' stuff!
For sure! The best part, of course, being that you don't have to pay anything. Well, as long as your library doesn't charge I suppose lol. But I'm pretty sure our DVD section sees the heaviest use as far as stuff checked out. I barely watch any movies and I use it all the time. :P
Yep. The No Pay thing is amazing! My library is really good about getting the superhero movies in, so I'm a happy camper.
...similar feels to Obsession (the spin-off of this one apparently)
I have a buddyread with this one starting tomorrow I think, so we'll see if I like it, but I remember Obsession being so fucking stupid...yet somehow I ended up loving it O_O
I used to LOVE that teen alien show Roswell...and this totally reminded me of those days. *sigh*Speaking of which, I need to finish that series out too.
3.5 stars. Wow. Im' impressed. Really impressed. Then again the book kind of deserved it after all you went through to get it. Haha.

5 pages were more than enough for me, thank you very much! I'd almost consider Pack Challenge to be a masterpiece compared to this one:P Which reminds me, I still have to read Go Fetch!!!
Ha! Well, good luck with Go Fetch! If you can't get through this, I don't see how that one's happening, though... ;)
Your review makes me want to try to reading it again. I shelved it after the main character kept on getting herself into trouble because she wouldn't listen to the alien and that just got on my nerves.
I should probably do a re-read, myself. I've been meaning to get to the rest of this series for a while.
"I just ate a bag of Funyuns.." Thank you for that! Virtual learning with my three kids and 2020 in general is taking its toll. I've been watching cheesy romance shows lately. Sometimes you just need fluff in your life. I'll have to check this out.
I love your reviews! This was the first Armentrout novel that I've ever read. I disliked it so much that I'll probably never read one of her books again. LOL I'm glad you enjoyed it though!
Lol. Funny review. I will have to agree with you that he looks does look like he'd be flabby in both covers. And she looks like she's about to blow her breath on him to smell the "FUNYUN'S". ROFL. You got the description of the cover quite right.
Great review! And I laughed so hard seeing that cover. what is that? What are they doing? 😂 your review made my day. Thanks a lot!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks his shoulders/top of his arms DO NOT look the least bit ripped. There's no need for a wife-beater, sir. No need.
Reynita wrote: "Great review! And I laughed so hard seeing that cover. what is that? What are they doing? 😂 your review made my day. Thanks a lot!"THAT COVER.
Here's the original cover, which is still cheesy but it's not as bad as the new one.
Candice wrote: "I'm reading this just because of your review. 😆"Oh no! Please don't blame me for whatever comes next!
