I have loved all of Emily Henry’s previous books, and as per usual, I enjoyed the banter, the dialogue, and the setting…for the majority of the book…until it was like EH got tired and had someone ghostwrite the ending…outside of those things though…nope.
Harriet and Wyn were boring AF, although I was willing to work with them.
But I’m sorry, she lost me at the constant flashbacks, the needless miscommunication, the obnoxiously magical over the top friend group, and the complete lack of financial reality. It was all frustrating.
I could go on with numerous examples, like about how Sabrina’s dad is apparently loaded, but that at one point the four of them couldn’t find a place they could afford (??) among other things, but without getting too spoiler-y, I’ll just say three words.
Student. Fucking. Loans.
And pottery. Sorry, that’s five words.
The ending was just completely ridiculous. “I want to go on vacations with my friends.” You know what vacations require? Money, honey.
And don’t get me started on Wyn. For someone who said he loved her so much, he gave up pretty damned quick. And didn’t really fight at all to get her back.
Just not my favorite.

Yep. I cannot imagine that she's going to be able to top "Book Lovers" but then again...

Well, I don't know if this will make you feel better BUT, I think you'll love her new book that's coming out in April. It's so fucking good that I can say I loved it almost as much as Book Lovers.

Same, same, same. Did not care for this, didn’t like the characters. I don’t like to compare an author’s previous books but I just adored Book Lovers and gave it a very rare 5 star rating. This story? Borrrrring and annoying people.

I came to this one after a 5-star Book Lovers, too. DNF'd this one. I still might try another book by her though...idk.

I dnf'ed Happy Place a few months back but decided to give it another try since so many people seem to like it. I really hope I like it better this time around (so far I do, since I'm listening to it rather than reading it, but I still don't think it's going to be a favorite).

I am so glad to see someone else didn't like this one. I felt like I was going to get tarred and feathered.

Yes! To everything! I gave it the same rating.I also couldn't get over her life choices given that the average medical school that is $200-250K.
***SPOILER ALERT***
If she didn't want to be a surgeon anymore because she hated the hours and being tired all the time, changing specialties is a thing. As is being a small-town doc who sets your own hours, leaving plenty of time for pottery.
I also thought the financial reality aspect of the book was unrealistic. Especially the ending. I don't know how it works in the States, but where I live it would have been easy for her to transition to become a GP (general practitioner). She can still use her degree, earn good money, live where she wants to live, enjoy more flexible hours and do pottery till her heart's content. She also won't be on her feet constantly or work in a precarious work environment. Basically everything that bothered her will be solved.
You should read Funny Story!!! It's my favorite of hers...and one of my favorite books ever 💙💙From what I know of you from your reviews, I think you'd love it too. Miles is an amazing MMC 💙
Haven't read this one tho, I am scared to 😂
