I LOVE FERRY!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE LEO!!!!!!!!! I LOVE LARK TAYLOR!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!
This book is up there in my Lark Taylor favorites. I say that after reading every one of her books, but anyway. I’m just so obsessed with this. I’ve had a hard time putting it down. I was almost late to my jury duty orientation because I couldn’t stop reading and you know what it means if you don’t show up to that stuff? Contempt of court. I risked it all for Ferry, but it was worth it. I’m being really dramatic, but the point here is that I really loved this book.
I really don’t know how to write this review without spoiling everything. There is a lot of stuff in the prologue that fills you in. Speaking of the prologue??? It made me want to cry big fat crocodile tears. If you thought Dagon and Dimitri’s book in the reckless damned series was a tear jerker, that one has nothing on this book. This was far worse. This author must be just a tad sadistic because why would she put my man and ME through that? It was so good, but oh my god was it sad. My poor Ferry. He’s gone through so much. If you read the reckless damned series, you know that Ferry was the ferryman in Hell. He was in charge of ferrying souls across the river Styx. At the end of that series, there was a battle in Hell that lead to Ferry being able to leave Hell. And he was getting the heck out of dodge. Apparently being stuck in Hell was his consequence for saving his mate, and now that the deal is broken, he’s going to earth to find him. The problem here is that Ferry’s mate doesn’t remember him, and he says that he’s straight. Ferry has his work cut out for him.
I loved Leo almost as much as I loved Ferry. And them together? Wow. They are so perfect for each other in every way. I loved watching Ferry get to know Leo and watching them fall in love. Leo is such a good man. So kind and loyal and protective. And don’t even get me started on Leo’s brother Matty. That man is a total sweetheart that deserves everything good and pure in this world. Leo is very protective of him, and in turn, so is Ferry. I think I could probably wax poetically about this book for days.
I’m always going to mention the spice. Whenever I read reviews, I always want to know the level of spice in a book, so that’s why I include it in my reviews. And the spice in this book? Very spicy. Leo and Ferry are so dirty. They both have filthy mouths, and they know how to back it up. And we LOVE that. It was so good. Leo also has a jealous streak, and when it gets flared up, we see the results in the bedroom. This author never lets me down in the spice department.
I loved the characters in this. We got to see all the characters from the reckless damned series since this book is a spin-off, but we also got introduced to some new characters that were fabulous. I’m looking forward to seeing them all get their books in the future.
It wouldn’t be a Lark Taylor book if there wasn’t some kind of conflict. It’s not like those unnecessary conflicts that some books have. The conflicts are always vital to the plot, and they always include some form of fighting and violence. Which is very good. I always try to figure out what will happen, but she always manages to shock me. Which she did again in this book. So good.
This is one of those books for me that I want to turn right back to page 1 and start reading all over again once I finished. It’s definitely one of my top reads of the year. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. She wasn’t planning on writing the next character’s book so soon, but she said on her facebook group that the characters started talking so she’s writing. I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone on earth heard my shout of joy. I’ve been excited for this particular character for a while. It’s going to be so good. The only issue will be waiting for it to come out. Pray for me. In the meantime, let’s re-read this book.
So if you want to read about a demon x firefighter, second chances, found family, and a bi-awakening, give this book a chance!!
I received a copy of the book, and this is my honest review.
