"If A Man Be Clay," written by Steve Purcell (Sam & Max) with art by Mike Mignola and Kevin Nowlan.
Originally set to be published in the all-Clayface issue of Secret Origins #44 (1989), the story was scrapped at the last minute by DC editors who, according to Nowlan, has problems with the irreverent tone and lines like Batman and Robin being referred to as "a couple of costumed pansies."
The story was replaced by a similarly (though apparently less offensively) irreverent Matt Hagen origin written by editor Dan Raspler, while this original one was hidden in a vault and eventually ignominously dumped in the pages of Batman Villains: Secret Files and Origins (2005).

in a supernaturally diverse world, a blind woman working as a secretary for an invisible-man boss is the only one who can find him anywhere, sparking a sweet love story
the couple: she’s kind and uplifting, he’s mature and romantic. their relationship reminds me of “odette” in a lot of ways, another one of my favourites
story & setting: episodic entries into the lives of the employees keeping a small detective agency running. a lot of care has gone into giving the cast backstories and personal issues that make sense for their unique races and really maximizes the concept of such a diverse world. the bits of lore and worldbuilding are fantastically interesting
the art: it’s delicate, detailed, and approachable. i personally love the splash-of-colour style of adding depth and interest. as well, the pages are full of really ingenious details to convey actions and feelings relating to both of their subjective realities

as for specific larrykat lore (LOL) i do have some ! instead of being hunted into the ice caverns during frankenstein meets the wolf man, wolf!larry passes out somewhere innocuous … only for a strange young american gal to find him on the road 😅 helloooo handsome ! good thing i was on my way to refurbish the frankenstein castle up the way as part of a post-war revitalization project :3 i want him to stick around because he’s handy and beefy and can totally help out with the castle (plus im lonely.) and larry DOESNT want to stick around but absolutely does. curse (that he obviously avoids telling me about) be damned, my boy can have an oblivious will-they-won’t-they like no other!
