Hello tumlr!! }:333 i was informally diagnosed w bipolar ii at the end of oct '23 and been on lithium for about the same amount of time!! (Formally under "unspecified mood disorder" but my NP is pretty confident I have bipolar ii, which she also has.) This sideblog is for all things bipolar ii from my perspective. Im on the "less severe" end of the spectrum, but i still feel debilitating symptoms. Regardless, i hope to have fun w this bc i think its important to do all i can to embrace + work w my disorder

Ppl w Bipolar ii are not scary and so many relatable memes are symptoms of it!

My profile picture is the Bipolar II Bunny made by Plushie Dreadfuls!

The song in my description is this

My header is lithium!

I think people are forgetting how awkwardly bob sentry still was. Slouched once he was busy talking and not appearing, fidgeting fingers, doubting his hair after ava pointed it out. Hes still bob, just emboldened by superpowers and mania. It is not a whole personality or identity switch. I don't think "It's not Robert you should be afraid of" indicates identity switching, but rather a distancing (again not switching) himself from his flawed, non superhuman, original self. He insists to be called "Sentry" after being called "Bobby" to feel better from being that helpless child he was. Likewise when he said "It's not me, me. It's the Void," that struck me as how people "aren't themselves" when they're depressed. It's not that the Void is literally not Bob, but that the Void is his depression and makes him act in down ways. Just Bob, but down.

I'm always going to be for people writing and interpreting fictional characters however they want, but I actually don't ever even run across any fics that treat Bob as having specifically bipolar disorder which he almost certainly canonically has. All the fics I come across, it's like he's being written as Marc Spector, like having DID. I want to stress again that I think people can interpret Bob as having DID if they want. I guess I just wish people wrote him as having bipolar too. That his Sentry and Void is written as mood, not identity/personality changes. Also! I acknowledge that mood disorders can occur with DID. I'm a fan of DPR IAN. But this is still a different case than just having bipolar by itself.

Of course, I'm talking about MCU Bob. I know comic Bob is different.

I think every person who has a stigmatized disorder has the right to kill anybody who is “pro mental health” but who acts uncomfortable whenever anything besides autism and adhd gets brought up

Bob giving up control of his life to the physical embodiment of his depression and then beating himself up over it and the void just becoming more powerful as a result is such a perfect metaphor. like yeah, that's exactly how it is, you can't beat depression with self-loathing, you need support and purpose and the people you love and loves you. they pulled it off beautifully

I see so much debate over Bob in the Thunderbolts because half the fandom is like “My precious baby boy” and the other half is like “No he’s not” but can he not be both? Like yes he is precious and must be protected but he also is a mentally ill traumatized drug addict and that’s why we love him.

god. i just cant get over the fact that Bob Reynolds is canonically mentally ill AND a hard drug user and everyone really loves him. good. that made me feel Good.

people with severe mental illness & living with addiction need compassion and empathy too, on AND off the screen.
