funniest thing about Hey Melissa to me is how completely unsustainable the ending actually is. like there's three options for how this could go post-canon

  1. Freddie remembers the conversation he had with Paul literally right before Melissa went missing, and catches on to the blatantly obvious fact that the only place Melissa could be is with Paul
  2. Bill "Loves Sticking His Nose Into Other People's Business" Woodward continuously pesters Paul in an effort to make up for his misunderstanding, and ends up figuring things out. because there is no way he wasn't told what was actually happening
  3. Paul gets sick and dies from malnutrition, leaving Melissa with no income, no protection, and the grief of her dead "cat"

Imagine your youngest daughter has these friends right. And they're usually thrilled to come over to your place and she's equally thrilled when they do. They're usually comfortable and silly and mess around when they hang out. You're happy for your daughter at the end of the day, because she finally has some friends.

And then suddenly one day they're coming over a little less frequently. And when they do it's rarely usually all at once anymore. It's a lot more akward and tense. They look at you weird when you just refer to your daughter by name. And sometimes you swear you can hear them talking about a girl called 'Aisha.' The name sounds so familiar but you don't know where.

Anyways Aisha's parents perspective after the Switch huh.

The duality of being a creative is wanting your stuff to get attention but also being afraid of white people liking it because you know the core message is about to be lost and the characters are gonna become one dimensional

starting to think starkid fans dont find black people as attractive or as capable of being a sexyman as a white person or literal objects

OMIGOD YES THIS IS SO TRUE

BRYCE CHARLES AS ELLA IS SO SEXY AND NOBODY SEEMS TO CARE

James Tolbert. Two words, that is very important for everyone to remember. He does an amazing Eldritch horror.

this reminded me that charles coven is also sexyman material and he wasnt even submitted :/

the thing is that i have been listening to the cinderella's castle cast album on loop for an unreasonable amount of time and so i am starting to see through the Extremely Specifically Made for Me-ness of its tone and premise and characterization to the bits of clunky lyricism. i am not saying the lyricism as a whole is bad, but like logically how the hell do you parse "if life is a burden, you know that you are burnt or shady." or the bits in ash to ash where it is so clear they needed to shift one or two syllables any given way so in the otherwise banger line of "you will be as radiant and terrible as i" you get "i shall wrap thee in these cinders, ell" not even finishing her name. "cinderella trust to radiate and glow" is like theme word salad. ella says she might need a lawyer "'cause i've been forced to break a few legs" like has she literally been forced to break people's legs for the trolls, or is that supposed to be a metaphor? but if it's a metaphor for her having to do bad shit, she hasn't actually done any of it yet and that's the whole point? and if you think about it too long "will it ever after happily" is like. i mean, that is A Way to convey that.

AND YET every time i start thinking about these things, bryce (and the others. but mostly bryce) just sell the shit out of it and i forget all about it. the thing about cinderella's castle to me is that it is a musical that is more than the sum of its already very strong parts. the "burnt or shady" line that makes zero sense is in a killer melody. "will it ever after happily"? what a poignant outburst of grief and uncertainty. bryce is there doing the musical equivalent of a top-tier hamlet adaptation while angela giarratana has the time of her life in a troll puppet.

anyway this is my argument for why cinderella's castle is my absolute favorite starkid show.

Hey there! Just a friendly reminder/PSA from your friendly neighborhood Pixiemage!

“Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” is too often (incorrectly) used as a cover-all tag, on fics ranging from Vaguely Uncomfortable to Serious Shit, as a replacement for any intense tags relating to the story. People will use it to say “Holy shit guys some INTENSE SHIT happens in this story” without actually saying what that Intense Shit™ is.

In actuality, the “Dead Dove” tag is meant to be used in addition to other warning tags. Pulled from a scene from the show Arrested Development (look it up on YouTube!), it means “Hi! Hey! I labeled this fic to warn you of what’s in it, so you might REALLY want to read those labels! This fic is exactly what it says on the tin! The tags are accurate! Don’t say I didn’t warn you, because this is me warning you! Read the tags!”

So before you accidentally use the “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” tag without context, here’s your preemptive lesson for next time. Please tag your fics accordingly! Ta!
