The under-16 social media ban is a great big effort in kicking the can down the road.
Like ohhhh kids don't know how to engage online safely? Hmm instead of, say, educating them about online safety, or what social media is and how to navigate it, let's just ban them from it until an arbitrary age and call it job done!
And then when the fresh new 17 year-olds jump onto social media for the first time, and have no idea how to be online safely or navigate social media? Well that's their problem! They're old enough to be online, so they should take some responsibility--back pats all around, good job everyone!
There should be dedicated How to Internet classes in school starting from kindergarten, if parents will be putting an iPad in front of a toddler to keep them occupied, then kids NEED to be educated about how to be online!! Kids should be taught how to use computers, and how to spot scams, and that what you see on an influencer's feed is all curated and deliberate.

The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
“She was killed [by zombies.]” <— passive
“Zombies killed [by zombies] her.” <— active
This is legit one of the best ways to identify passive voice.
The passive voice has been successfully identified.

the coolest thing about writing Franz Ferdinand fanfiction is that sometimes they see it and reference it in one of their songs
OH MY GOD
(which song is that?)
Alex Kapranos on fan fiction in conversation with Canadian online review magazine Chart Attack in November 2004:
"[Fan fiction] was pointed out to me at one point and I thought it was very humorous," Kapranos says. "The thing I didn’t realize is that there are so many hot blooded girls who are really kind of into this voyeuristic thing about homosexual sex. At first I thought they’d been spying on my private life and then I realized it’s just fantasy."
"I think it’s brilliant. It’s really, really funny. And I like that sort of thing cause it means that there’s people who have imagination who are inspired by your personality and the things that you’ve done, so it’s a good thing," he says.
"There’s absolutely nothing wrong with fictionalizing a genuine character as long as you make it clear that you are fictionalizing, which I think all that slash stuff does."
[...]"It’s what we do in songs as well," he says. "I mean, we take characters who are around us and write stories, write songs about events that have happened in their lives. Of course, when you tell any story, you make it dramatic, you use the tools of drama to make an exciting story. All they’re doing is an extreme example of what we do."
STEDDIE IS NOT BONES !!! honest to god they felt more canon than most of the ships in season five which is crazy considering eddie is dead.
Concept: one of those standard plots where a magic user and a tech expert are arguing over whose purview the weird thing of the week falls under, but it's the magic user who's insisting this has to be a science thing and the tech expert who's insisting it has to be a magic thing, because they're not arguing over worldview, they're arguing over jurisdiction and neither of them wants to be the one who has to deal with it
"Look, it's a circuitboard. That makes this tech - your territory"
"That 'circuitboard' sure looks like a runic circle to me. Your territory"
"Look, it's an evil lab! That's your circus!"
"Yeah, and there's a demon inside! That's your monkey!"

The caption reads: "Defeated by roses. Near Turin's Lingotto station, along a lonely path, Miss Guida Concetta Rinino, 28 years old, who was bringing a nice bunch of roses to a relative, was accosted by an unknown young man. The young woman, rather than losing heart, defended herself with extraordinary energy, using the bunch of flowers as a weapon. So it was that the scoundrel, his face all scratched up, had to flee. (Drawing by Walter Molino.)"
Incredible. At a distance I understand how the woman might appear to be the abuser and the man the sympathetic victim, but the second you zoom into the man’s face the pink-cheeked rage- not remorse, or rejection, or embarrassment- not heartbreak or despair- but RAGE- the deeper story speaks itself into your suspicions.
And the bit where they’re HER roses? Almost a relief, but also sadder, as she will arrive at whatever event without them, or with them destroyed.
Do you think when the righteous anger and anxiety and annoyance fade, when she arrives at her destination- will her loved ones applaud her? Will she be proud? Will her hands shake? Will she walk home with company from then out, and for how long?
In this moment, she is provoked into anger. Anger is good- it appears strong. But look at his face. Would you put it past him to linger there after dark, in case she returns alone?
What story will HE tell, of ‘I was perfectly polite, but she didn’t even give me a chance- women like that, they’d swoon for a jerk in a heartbeat, but kind and flattering men like me?…”
I love this piece. It paints both stories while illustrating the power dynamics and struggles at play. This should be shown in art classes
just rewatched t2
Actually this time probably not. The writing was on the wall way before Reagan became president, and the steel mill closed in November 1981, barely ten months into his president.
He was governor of California during that "writing on the wall" period. He was the one writing. It was his wall.
Oh. Well don't I look stupid now.
Terrible news: you learned something today
The Hiveworks Artist Guild has released a public statement alleging years of labor abuses, financial mismanagement, and misconduct at Hiveworks at the hands of Xellette “Xel” Velamist and Isabelle “Isa” Melançon. Read their full statement HERE
Attached image is their logo, no credit (artists asked to not be credited).
Hey remember the Tigers books one crowdfunding that Hiveworks handled years ago? I'm still waiting to be paid for it.
This was one of the many reasons why I left Hiveworks this year. Thank you for the artists guild, and cartoonist coop for the tremendous help during this time. Tigers would not habe survived without your help.
If you want to support the artists affected by Hiveworks mismanagement, a bunch of us made a collective called Chimera Comics!
