Intro Post

Hi, welcome to the foxgloves' garden, where a plural system makes cool things and reblogs a lot of stuff, mostly memes, positivity/cozy stuff, other creators' writing. We're also very opionionated and post political stuff sometimes. Our worldview can be summed up as "If you can't be kind to your fellow beings, then begone."

This means no queerphobia of any kind, no hating on any religion or nation, no anti-endo, no nothing. Disagreeing with people's beliefs and/or lifestyles is fine, but the second we catch you being dickish about it you get blocked.

With that out of the way, hi all! We're the Foxglove Garden, or just Foxgloves. Our system's made up mostly of spirits from who knows where and/or introjects from our own creative works and roleplays, and we make cool stuff. (Asks are open if you want info about the stuff, see below)

We have ADHD, which means we frequently oscillate between writing, roleplay, playing vidya games and TTRPGs, doing art, coding, making chiptune, textile arts, and various other things. Our frequent fronters as of 7/5/25 are Fox, Phantom, and Alecto. Fox (They/It) is the host, and is also a median subsystem. They write fantasy and sci-fi, as well as drawing, doing pixel art, and language stuff. Phantom (he/him) plays games, read about robots and space stuff, and makes sure Fox takes care of itself. Alecto crochets and is looking into learning how to spin. Emoji signoffs (implementing 12/28/25)

  • #Chaos at Keystone: Sci fantasy dramedy comic show about pataphysics and the omniverse - specifically, what counts as "real enough" to matter. It's part of Fox's source, and they're very excited to share it.
  • #Oak Ashe and Thorn: Fox's WIP novel trilogy, an urban fantasy about found family, intersectionality and allyship. There were too many ideas to shove into one book, so it's planning for three.
  • #Coffee and Curses is the first book in said trilogy, wherein the trio of main characters discover a sinister, caffeine fueled plot.
  • #The Sevenfold Sagas (formerly #Sekaran Tales): The loose collection of myths and worldbuilding snippets about our original species the Sía Akara ("Of the Eldest", as they are supposedly direct creations of the seven elemental deities,) a group of shifters whose country borders the Deep Wilds. Also part of Kori's source, Akaramalé ("Eldest's-place") is its homeland.
  • #Overright: A 4th-wall breaking RPG. How far are you willing to go to save the world?
  • #Team Spirit: A lost soul drops their coin for Charon into the river Styx, losing their ticket to Hades (and their hand.) A very pink faerie offers them a deal - work with the Wild Hunt for a little bit, chase down evil souls and guide honorable folk to Annwn, and we'll see that you make it to Elysium.
  • Ratatosk Run: A runner game where you must climb Yggdrasil to yell at the eagle on top. Also you're a squirrel.

That thing about how cats think humans are big kittens is a myth, y’know.

It’s basically born of false assumptions; folks were trying to explain how a naturally solitary animal could form such complex social bonds with humans, and the explanation they settled on is “it’s a displaced parent/child bond”.

The trouble is, cats aren’t naturally solitary. We just assumed they were based on observations of European wildcats - but housecats aren’t descended from European wildcats. They’re descended from African wildcats, which are known to hunt in bonded pairs and family groupings, and that social tendency is even stronger in their domesticated relatives. The natural social unit of the housecat is a colony: a loose affiliation of cats centred around a shared territory held by alliance of dominant females, who raise all of the colony’s kittens communally.

It’s often remarked that dogs understand that humans are different, while cats just think humans are big, clumsy cats, and that’s totally true - but they regard us as adult colonymates, not as kittens, and all of their social behaviour toward us makes a lot more sense through that lens.

They like to cuddle because communal grooming is how cats bond with colonymates - it establishes a shared scent-identity for the colony and helps clean spots that they can’t easily reach on their own.

They bring us dead animals because cats transport surplus kills back to the colony’s shared territory for consumption by pregnant, nursing, or sick colonymates who can’t easily hunt on their own. Indeed, that’s why they kill so much more than they individually need - it’s not for fun, but to generate enough surplus kills to sustain the colony’s non-hunting members.

They’re okay with us messing with their kittens because communal parenting is the norm in a colony setting, and us being colonymates in their minds automatically makes us co-parents.

It’s even why many cats are so much more tolerant toward very small children, as long as those children are related to one of their regular humans: they can tell the difference between human adults and human “kittens”, and your kittens are their kittens.

Basically, you’re going to have a much easier time getting a handle on why your cat does why your cat does if you remember that the natural mode of social organisation for cats is not as isolated solitary hunters, but as a big communal catpile - and for that purpose, you count as a cat.

i got a 100% on this bostonian-to-english quiz but i grew up near boston..... i'm curious what you guys get. there's a couple things in here i didn't even know are regionalisms + a couple things i hadn't heard before but could parse pretty easily from context. tag/reply with what you got and if you're familiar with the area or not!

It's so, SO important to share success stories like this. I know an actual JPL engineer who doesn't believe in climate change because, "you never hear about acid rain anymore."

He thinks climate change can be lumped in with acid rain and the ozone layer of "things that were overblown and not really important because no one talks about it anymore."

It didn't even occur to him that we actively fixed the problem. Here's the EPA page on acid rainfall.

I wanted to share this: WE FIGURED OUT HOW TO BRING BACK DEAD CORAL!!! By using sounds of living coral to attract fish.

Coral can be saved!!! This planet is way more resilient than we give it credit for. And we don't give humans enough flowers for stopping the harm billionaires cause.

i agree with this but i wonder if the person saying this realizes that this will lead their kids to ask why their own parents are allowing their classmates to starve when they themselves have a fridge full of food. a good question for both the kids and the parents. but questionable if the parents actually want to have to answer that.

Speaking as someone who runs BIG SURVEYS, Qualtrics (a very big and well-established survey provider) definitely have ways to identify your multiple responses many times more quickly than you can enter them, and Qualtrics or Discord will just remove them with a click, they won't even read them. You think you're causing them inconvenience and sending a message, but it is nothing to them. It is so, so easy to find when people are submitting multiple responses, and so quick and easy to remove them. And Discord will never know anything more than "a bunch of trouble-makers submitted 10+ responses each and we deleted them." You will have zero impact.

Also, if you submit more than one response, there's a good chance they will remove ALL of your responses, for data quality purposes. (They might leave your first response, but I think there's a decent chance they would rather ensure data quality and delete all of them.)

If you want your submission to count, submit once only.
