Steve blinked awake.
The blue light surrounding him would have been eerie if it hadn't been so familiar. At one point in Steve's life, the soft reflections of the pool on his skin was his chief comfort. It was only two years ago, after Barb's disappearance, that the flickering light registered as something to be afraid of-- Though, Steve supposed, he knew now that he had abandoned that comfort for no reason. She hadn't died there, hadn't thrashed in the water as she fought for breath. No, that had all happened miles away under the ground in Lafayette.
Maybe that was why he was dreaming of it now. Because he was dreaming, Steve noted as he floated. For one, the pool was... bigger? It didn't go on forever, fading into the horizon like the ocean, but you couldn't see the Harrington backyard at the sides, either-- And the longer you tried, the longer the distance seemed to stretch. Somehow Steve knew that he could swim for hours without ever making it to the edge. The blue swallowed everything around them, consuming every other color until even the shadows were painted navy and cobalt.
