[guy whose bedtime is approaching fast] I need to write one billion words right now. and draw everything that has ever existed.

How I think I’m writing: Using eye contact, or lack thereof, to display emotions such as intimacy, shock, denial, or nervousness.
How I’m actually writing: She looked at me, and I looked away. I tried to look back, but she was already looking at the sky. “Look,” she sighs, looking back at me for a split second. “I don’t know how to say this.” We looked at each other and time stopped, but then she looked her lookers at something else to look at, looking tired.
And then they blinked and shrugged and sighed their way home.
MYSTERY CATERPILLAR OF THE AMAZON!
family Sphingidae, Manu Biological Station, Peru
Apparently, for years, the identity of this caterpillar has been a mystery. We may be very close to solving the mystery!
People have seen this large gorgeous caterpillar for ages, but have never been able to figure out what it grows/metamorphoses into... what species is it?
Entomologist Gwen Erdosh (Gwentomologist), currently the Volunteer Coordinator at the Manu Biological Station in Madre de Dios, Peru, has collected one, determined its host plant, and got it to pupate!
Luckily, I got to meet the larva before it pupated, and snap a few photos.
Hopefully, we will know soon, and the mystery will be solved!

THE MYSTERY HAS BEEN SOLVED!!!
The mystery caterpillar of the Amazon has been identified!
Gwen Erdosh has successfully raised the caterpillar, and it has fully metamorphosed.
We knew that it was a Sphinx Moth, family Sphingidae, but no on seemed to know what species it was.
This gorgeous caterpillar is the larva of Manduca neglecta!

i learned that actor Danny Trejo has the most on-screen deaths of anyone in Hollywood history, with 65. Followed by Christopher Lee (60), Lance Henriksen (51), Vincent Price (41), Dennis Hopper (41), Boris Karloff (41), and John Hurt (39). (x)
Yet poor Sean Bean is stuck with the reputation for dying in every movie. Unfair.
Give him time, he still has many years of dying yet to come.
Also there’s the question of density vs quantity. If you make a hundred movies and die in 50, and someone else makes 30 movies and dies in 30, the first one has died more, but the second one has died more often per movie.
It’s the DPM ratio that really counts, IMO.
65/402 16% Danny Trejo 60/282 21% Christopher Lee 51/259 20% Lance Henriksen 41/211 19% Vincent Price 41/205 20% Dennis Hopper 41/204 20% Boris Karloff 39/209 19% John Hurt 33/117 28% Sean Bean
I’m so proud of the statistical side of tumblr for coming through on this.
some things never change no matter how old we get
This seems like the perfect ethical gift to give a politician. Most countries have prohibitions about keeping things after leaving office, but the fun part of Lego is putting it together. Besides, it would be weird (affectionate) to put it on display boxed.
Sometimes you send something you found online to a friend because you want to brighten their day, and sometimes you send something you found online to a friend with the precise attitude and bearing of a cat very carefully lining up their paw with the back of another cat's head.
This phrase has already entered my vocabulary re: media criticism where like. The viewer has a concrete view of what they expect a story to be based on the tropes and cliches they're used to seeing together, and when that doesn't happen, they judge it as a failed depiction of what they assumed it was going to be instead of judging it as what it actually is.
"This show is problematic because the hero didn't kill the villain at the end": When does he steal the bread?
"These two characters who were close friends throughout the series don't kiss at the end! What the fuck?": When does he steal the bread?
"This feels like it's missing a conclusion! Like, the protagonist does bad stuff and because of a critical decision he makes as a result of his major character flaws, meets tragedy in the end! Where's the part where he learns better and brings is love back from the dead and becomes a good guy and gets a happy ending?": When does he steal the fucking bread??
with the US mars sample return mission officially cancelled and the samples sitting on the surface of the planet doing absoltely nothing, china has the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever
Something so disgusting about how the original Haitian zombie folklore is "the zombies are victims of a sorcerer who exploits them as slaves" and then modern zombie media is "the zombies just appear from an infection that turns Real People into a rampaging horde serving no other purpose than to threaten Civilization" like.
The Haitian zombie is very clearly metaphorical for the very real horrors of slavery, while the viral zombie is fundamentally about "what if there was a type of guy it was completely okay to kill and you got to exist in a survivalist fantasy as a Badass, also when infrastructure collapses it's every man for himself and altruism goes away"
And isn't it super interesting to think about that in the context of historical US-Haiti relations?
obtuse is such a good word. Bro that was so thoughtless it's triangle
not to be vague but.
