Thinking about Seam and ERAM yet again . As one does. Of course
I imagine that a darkner can be brought to life/existence by a lightner's direct actions (use and emotional value given to the object) but it's not an automatic process, sometimes other darkners can be involved in their manifestation.
This concept does have some holes here and there but idc. But what's important is: ERAM is indeed Kris' horned headband (that's just a piece of a vampire halloween costume [thus the shadow mantle form she takes])
I imagine a time when Noelle and Kris would hang out in the old classroom while Asriel and Dess would watch them. Perhaps on Kris's birthday. Asriel would gift it to them and they'd happily wear it for the following months or year. A really heavy sentimental value is given to the headband, it's prime to become a darkner.
And so, a silent night at Card Kingdom welcomes ERAM. The old wizard had found the discarded costume mantle cloth, and took it to their chambers in the Castle. With delicate paws, inspecting and restitching wherever the machine-made stitches seemed loose.
It wasn't long before the mantle was patched up, seething with magic. The cat's stitching combining their own with the mantle's. They smiled at the small bursts of sparkles that surrounded it.
Gently cradling the shimmering cloth in their hands, a small kiss awakens the new darkner. The shape of a fanged mouth appears as the only feature on its face.
It yawns, adjusting itself to the new stimulus around it, before recognizing and smiling at the cat in front of her, they laugh as the small darkner holds its "hands" up to touch their muzzle.
Seam, the Royal Magician, welcomes a new darkner to their life.
