unrequited prongstail but in the way they still held hands on platform 9 and 3/4 in first year, until james sees all these really tall scary sixth years and he sees parents looking at them (not even in a mean way, just looking at them) and he gets all Scared. they meet the others and james' world expands a bit - he still shares a bed with peter sometimes, they still spend all their time together, they still joke about the fact they got married at 6 years old. but james starts maturing, he starts getting arrogant, he starts joining in on the pranks and adopting sirius' "we'll show them" mentality. he's still close to peter, yes, but he's Grown Up now.

(someone is whispering to me that Regulus is offering Evan to come with him to a way more prestigious restaurant but for an unknown reasons Evan stay here...) Someone want to see Jegulus from my AU ? The strong impact of the shutters against the window pane echoed through the living room, constantly shaking awake the cats trying to sleep on the couch, but not at all disturbing Evan, who stroked Barty’s hair slowly while Barty held a neuroscience book up to his face, his head resting comfortably on Evan’s lap.

“The brain remains functional for approximately seven minutes after death,” Barty read aloud and looked up at Evan. His dark eyes shone especially beautifully, like those of a child who had just discovered a wonder of the world. “Isn’t it amazing?”

Evan nodded.

“I always thought the brain died instantly too.”

“Right?” Barty returned to his reading, his lips half-open in concentration. ”Here it’s not specified what the brain does during those minutes, though.”

“Well, nobody came back from death and told us, did they?”

Barty let out a soft chuckle, the kind Evan was already used to but would never grow tired of hearing no matter how long it went on.

“I am very intrigued. In films the protagonist sees the best moments of their life, but I don’t buy that sappy shit.”

Evan fell silent for a few seconds.

“I’m not sure what could happen during that time, but if it’s memories…” His caresses descended to Barty's left cheek and he traced the scar there absentmindedly with his forefinger. “You’ll be my seven minutes.”

Barty laughed again, but not for long this time, a slight blush creeping onto his face instead.

Evan ghosted a smile as he bled to death on the pavement after having been attacked by Alastor Moody's Bombarda Maxima. Barty would have hated to know he had actually been wrong.

i do think the marauders were a good group of friends (yes prongsfoot were definitely THE duo but that happens in groups and it doesn’t make them bad friends). however, if we have to say one of them was “excluded” it would be remus lupin and not peter pettigrew. i see a lot of posts on how peter was left out and that’s the reason for his betrayal but i don’t really believe that.

the marauders became illegal animagi for remus but it wasn’t something he was a part of. james, sirius, and peter shared that between the three of them—the entire process of becoming one, being in full control during their full moon adventures and all that. after the night of the full moon, again, the other three spent time together and remus was more alone.

we also see in snape’s worst memory that peter went with james and sirius but remus was the one who stayed back, so i imagine he usually avoided directly being a part of those activities while peter didn’t. when harry overheard mcgonagall and the others at hogsmeade, they mentioned sirius, james, and peter. no one even said remus’ name (yes i realise that could just be a plot point but even in lily’s letter to sirius, she mentioned peter and nothing about remus).

another major point is that remus was the only marauder kept out of the loop on the whole secret kepeer thing (also i HATE that entire plot line with a passion because none of it makes sense anyways). he was the only one who had no idea of the secret keeper switch and when james died, all three of them (james, peter, sirius) were aware that peter had been the spy. remus, on the other hand, spent thirteen years not knowing any of that.

remus spent his entire childhood fearing that he’ll never make any friends and he will forever be shunned but he did end up finding these three idiots who not only accepted him but went so far in his aid. he naturally had major self esteem issues and when someone is insecure like that, they usually just distance themselves and stay away for so many different reasons (fear of scaring their friends away, being too much, people judging them, being seen as they see themselves, and so on and so on). it’s not his fault and it wasn’t theirs but when it comes down to it, i genuinely believe remus was the “left out” marauder (if there has to be one, that is … note that i’m not arguing that they didn’t love remus, just that he was the one who was more separate (?) from the others).

as for peter, it makes sense why he would feel that way, too. it could be his own insecurities to an extent but also when remus was absent and it was just peter with james and sirius, it would be very easy to feel left out. the whole “there’s a duo in the trio” thing but then duo being james and sirius was impossible to compete with for anyone, not just peter.

i hate the new thing in fandom spaces where you’ll see someone’s comment or post about the fandom and you decide to engage and they’re immediately like “omg it’s not that serious calm down”. what does that MEAN? why can’t we discuss the complexities of character analysis and plot development? why can’t we have whimsy and fun anymore? not everyone is arguing with you just because they’re not agreeing with you wholeheartedly and immediately. it’s called having a conversation. 😭
