how to find literally any post on a blog in seconds (on desktop)

there are so many posts about ~tumblr is so broken, you can’t find any post on your own blog, it’s impossible, bluhrblub~

I am here to tell you otherwise! it is in fact INCREDIBLY easy to find a post on a blog if you’re on desktop/browser and you know what you’re doing:

  • url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant. every single post, every single time. in chronological order starting with the most recent post. note: it will not find #croissants or that time you made the typo #croidnssants. for a tag with multiple words, it’s just /tagged/my-croissant and it will show you everything with the exact phrase #my croissant
  • url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant/chrono will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the exact phrase #croissant, but it will show them in reverse order with the oldest first
  • url.tumblr.com/search/croissant isn’t as perfect at finding everything, but it’s generally loads better than the search on mobile. it will find a good array of posts that have the word croissant in them somewhere. could be in the body of the post (op captioned it “look at my croissant”) or in the tags (#man I want a croissant). it won’t necessarily find EVERYTHING like /tagged/ does, but I find it’s still more reliable than search on mobile. you can sometimes even find posts by a specific user by searching their url. also, unlike whatever random assortment tumblr mobile pulls up, it will still show them in a more logically chronological order
  • url.tumblr.com/day/2020/11/05 will show you every post on the blog from november 5th, 2020, in case you’re taking a break from croissants to look for destiel election memes
  • url.tumblr.com/archive/ is search paradise. easily go to a particular month and see all posts as thumbnails! search by post type! search by tags but as thumbnails now
  • url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio will show you every audio post on your blog (you can also filter by other post types). sometimes a little imperfect if you’re looking for a video when the op embedded the video in a text post instead of posting as a video post, etc
  • url.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/croissant will show you EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant, but it will show you them in the archive thumbnail view divided by months. very useful if you’re looking for a specific picture of a croissant that was reblogged 6 months ago and want to be able to scan for it quickly
  • url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio/tagged/croissant will show you every audio post tagged with the specific phrase #croissant (you can also filter by photo or text instead, because I don’t know why you have audio posts tagged croissant)

the tag system on desktop tumblr is GENUINELY amazing for searching within a specific blog!

caveat: this assumes a person HAS a desktop theme (or “custom theme”) enabled. a “custom theme” is url.tumblr.com, as opposed to tumblr.com/url. I’ve heard you have to opt-into the former now, when it used to be the default, so not everyone HAS a custom theme where you can use all those neat url tricks.

if the person doesn’t have a “custom theme” enabled, you’re beholden to the search bar. still, I’ve found the search bar on tumblr.com/url is WAY more reliable than search on mobile. for starters, it tends to bring posts up in a sensible order, instead of dredging up random posts from 2013 before anything else

if you’re on mobile, I’m sorry. godspeed and good luck finding anything. (my one tip is that if you’re able to click ON a tag rather than go through the search bar, you’ll have better luck. if your mutual has recently reblogged a post tagged #croissant, you can click #croissant and it’ll bring up everything tagged #croissant just like /tagged/croissant. but if there’s no readily available tag to click on, you have to rely on the mobile search bar and its weird bizarre whims)

So you're telling me the New York Times had incriminating evidence on Donald Trump from direct email correspondences with Jeffrey Epstein in 2015 and suppressed it.

Am I understanding this correctly?

It's actually kind of striking how rapidly the ads on ostensibly respectable platforms have changed in the last 12–18 months. I've been getting penis enlargement scams and pyramid schemes that don't even bother to pretend to be otherwise on YouTube – it's like every platform is now running the kinds of ads that even three years ago would have been restricted to porn sites, and I'm not gonna lie, the fact that everyone seems to be getting desperate all at once ain't an encouraging sign!

I just saw full frontal erect penis on a weather app. It's not the sign of the impending tech-bubble implosion I expected, but apparently it's the sign we're getting.

"You know those are based on your browsing history" no, you don't get it: I tried obfuscating my identity on YouTube with a burner freemail account on a public terminal and actually got more boner pill ads. Boner pill ads appear to be the default experience when they don't know your demographic.

I realize we've all said this many, many times before, but the crab rave cannot come soon enough.

Everything is still very comprehensively shit, but a) scrolling through pictures/videos of all the protests ongoing across the country (can be found on Bluesky) that were arranged on often less than 48 hours' notice, and b) recalling that the Turd Reich is doing this precisely BECAUSE they're running scared and sense that time is running out for their fascist clownshow loathed by the great majority of Americans, is at least mildly cathartic.

The protests are working. The pressure is working. Call your members of congress (Congressional switch board number: (202) 224 3121) and tell them you are horrified at what ICE is doing and that they need to rein in ICE and impeach Kristi Noem.

before i forget!!! cool thing we heard last night at the sinners Q&A: MBJ decided to wear different sized shoes while playing smoke and stack. for smoke he wore a size too large, the explanation being that when you're wearing shoes that are too big, you're less likely to want to move around because of how uncomfortable and clunky it is. as a result, smoke as a character is very still and purposeful with his movements. and then for stack he wore a half size too small because it makes you constantly shift around on your feet trying to find a stance and a position that feels right and takes the pressure off your feet. that makes stack more fidgety and restless. so MBJ said that wearing the different shoes made it a lot easier to embody the twins because he was just reacting naturally to what his body was telling him, rather than overthinking his movements. just the coolest shit. such a neat acting choice. i love movies, man.

I don’t want to hear any writing advice from Stephen king not because I think there would be no value in it but because whatever works for Stephen king is between him and god and that demon he made a pact with that lets him write 3000 words in one sitting daily.

HE HAS BEEN SOBER AND STILL WRITING FOR 30 FUCKING YEARS!!!

it's actually insane to me that people are trying to defend an imagined sanctity of ads. "well at least it took skill to make the food look fake" these dumbasses cannot be serious. yeah thank god this ad was created by humans trying to sell a product to me by lying instead of a human-made machine programmed to do it. someone trying to defend 'real' ads (as opposed to those 'fake' ai ones) saying at least 'real' ads don't pollute homes and take local water, which really goes to show what goes on in the mind of an ai hater. 'real' ads just spawned from the void fully formed with no consequences to overall society whereas 'fake' ai ads crawled up from a pit of pollution with the sole purpose of being evil

☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️

yeah like. When it comes to environmental impact the advertising industry is the very definition of wasting tons of resources and producing inordinate amounts of pollution to produce nothing of value. Like saying that at least "real" ads are not killing the planet is something you can only believe if you live in a fantasy world where all those pamphlets and billboards and posters just spawn out of the void instead of being printed somewhere, and all those spam emails and calls involve zero computational resources and energy consumption.

Like. I personally do think AI usage *might* end up worsening the environmental impact of the advertising industry, but if it does it will be less because AI is the mythically evil water-chuggining environment-poisoning machine and more because, as I said on another post, it lowers the economic barrier of entry of producing an ad, thus leading to companies making more ads, and more resources being wasted on printing and broadcasting ads.

If you're wondering why I haven't been around much, surprise! | live in South Minneapolis where things have been pretty bad. BUT my South Minneapolis friends and neighbors have been wonderful. I love my neighborhood and my city. We keep us safe.

For Minnesota residents, Defend612 has some great resources in the links.

ALSO if you're a cartoonist or a comics person, I invite you to journal your experience of how ICE has impacted your life with your own four-panel comics! I'd love to connect with you.

Stay frosty, but abolish ICE.

I do enjoy telling people who unironically say they’re gold star gays im a gold star bisexual and you can tangibly see the [didn’t like that] telltale games facial expression appear on their face
