I’m Rania from Gaza — Please Read My Story And help us 💔 Donate now

Hello everyone, my name is Rania Adnan Hammouda, a mother from Gaza.

Right now, my life is full of pain and uncertainty 😢. I had seven children, but I lost two of my beloved sons in this war 💔. My husband was severely injured when a truck carrying aid supplies ran over him, and he needs urgent surgery to survive .

Our home was completely destroyed 🏚️. We now live in a small torn tent, with no food, no clean water, and no income. My daughters dream of going to university 🎓, but all hope feels lost in this destruction.

🙏 Please, if you’re reading this, help us. Your donation can save my husband’s life, feed my children, and give us a small chance to rebuild a safe home 🕊️.

Even a small act of kindness can make a huge difference 💞.

Please share this post, donate if you can, and pray for my family.

please share❤️🙏

✅️Vetted by @gazavetters , my number verified on the list is ( #459 )✅️

Please, friends, I haven't received any donations yet. Please.💔😭

When I say editing software is getting dumber, this is what I mean.

In what world is "What dinnered?" more legible than "What happened to dinner?" I just... what?!

AI industry groups are urging an appeals court to block what they say is the largest copyright class action ever certified. They’ve warned that a single lawsuit raised by three authors over Anthropic’s AI training now threatens to “financially ruin” the entire AI industry if up to 7 million claimants end up joining the litigation and forcing a settlement.

well…darn

people misunderstand what ‘gifted kid’ actually means but it’s ok it’s fine it’s cool it’s good

it’s not about actually being gifted, it’s about an initial higher scoring on standardized testing that means little to nothing or being good at learning in the way elementary and middle school wants you to, so you get marked as ‘advanced’. in reality, maybe you had faster development in certain areas, but the issue with being a gifted kid isn’t that “everyone told me I was so cool and special for reading and then I actually wasn’t :(” it’s “I wasn’t properly taught to handle things not coming easily to me, but the adults around me were counting on me not being a ‘difficult’ child in school.”

people who use it as some weird bragging method or interpret it that way are ignoring the way a lot of school systems force certain roles on students to simplify the learning process. If your kid doesn’t need to take notes to understand a science concept bc they get it naturally, well that’s good, but now you’re not teaching them how to take notes and they’re not learning that important soft skill. but because ‘gifted’ kids are easy and don’t show that they’re falling behind in learning in other categories that are harder to quantify, they eventually fall behind after that catches up to them. It’s about the failures of a one size fits all school system trying to compensate in the worst way possible.

And also the thing where ‘gifted’ kids are super likely to also be neuroatypical, which they don’t get screened for because they appear to be doing well in school. Or “You can’t be ADHD/autistic/etc, because you’re doing so well in school!”. Or being shamed for developing mental health issues/generally not being able to keep up with school work later, because you USED TO BE able to do it just fine.

Or the assumption that just because you can read well or you like math class, you’re somehow more EMOTIONALLY mature than your little kid brain is actually capable of being.

Or gifted kids whose parents and teachers put immense pressure on them to Do Great Things and Save The World and you’re like. “I’m 10 and I have no idea how to do that, but everyone is saying that’s my job?”.

This is the best “gifted kid” post out there. I never took notes until college because I didn’t have to, snd when it got challenging I had to literally teach myself note taking at age 18. It also fucks with your perception of asking for help - you’re advanced, you’re competent, you should be able to understand every topic easily. Asking for help/going to office hours/asking for a tutor feels like failing when you were praised in your early years for not needing to do that.

adhd will get you thinking "i should make this doctors appointment" every day for 7 months and counting

none of us are making those appointments huh

Iran celebrated, Israel celebrated the end of the war, and Gaza waits and calls, but no one listens. The war between Iran and Israel is over, but the war in Gaza is not over. Children are still dying, families are still being displaced, walking long distances, homes are still being demolished over the heads of those inside, and injustice still exists. Also, don't forget that hunger has never left people, but more importantly, Tumblr users, listen to me with your hearts. I always write posts asking you to participate with me and donate to my family, but unfortunately, I only find a few who do. If you want to do something for Palestine and for my family, you can donate via the link here. This donation campaign is what enables us to live in Gaza, which has been overlooked and is no longer cared for by many people.

Please donate!!

Distinct from fine art, it’s also about avoiding developing the skill of written composition (forget vocab, spelling, grammar, appropriate word choice, proof-reading), it’s about avoiding developing any ability to express yourself, and failing to develop reading comprehension (if you plug something into it, asking for a summary). It’s just about being lazy and incompetent, and insisting that laziness and incompetence is fine, actually.

I hadn’t connected AI use with the recent surge in anti-intellectualism, but this makes me think it pretty neatly links that with the capitalist disrespect for art and writing as meaningful pursuits.

CITY OF ANGELS

Donald Trump has authorized 2,000 National Guard troops to be used against protesters, whose goal was to put a stop to ICE's kidnapping raids.

Being undocumented is not a criminal offense in the United States of America.

Quoting this from the ACLU in an issue brief from 2010, since there are a lot of people in the comments mouthing off about that last sentence:

The act of being present in the United States in violation of the immigration laws is not, standing alone, a crime. While federal immigration law does criminalize some actions that may be related to undocumented presence in the United States, undocumented presence alone is not a violation of federal criminal law. Thus, many believe that the term “illegal alien,” which may suggest a criminal violation, is inaccurate or misleading. Entering the United States without being inspected and admitted, i.e., illegal entry, is a misdemeanor or can be a felony, depending on the circumstances. 8 U.S.C. § 1325. But many undocumented immigrants do not enter the United States illegally. They enter legally but overstay, work without authorization, drop out of school or violate the conditions of their visas in some other way. Current estimates are that approximately 45% of undocumented immigrants did not enter illegally. See Pew Hispanic Center, Modes of Entry for the Unauthorized Migrant Population [May 22, 2006]. Undocumented presence in the United States is only criminally punishable if it occurs after an individual was previously formally removed from the United States and then returned without permission. 8 U.S.C. § 1326 (any individual previously “deported or removed” who “enters, attempts to enter, or is at any time found in” the United States without authorization may be punished by imprisonment up to two years). Mere undocumented presence in the United States alone, however, in the absence of a previous removal order and unauthorized reentry, is not a crime under federal law.

Even now, under Trump's second administration, immigration is a CIVIL matter, not a criminal one. Immigration violations are often at most misdemeanors that should be dealt with peacefully, not with brute force. And if these pro-ICE people are truly so about prosecuting crime, then they should take into account that blowing this kind of civil matter up like this is only wasting time and resources that could be set aside for serious crimes. Quoting the ACLU again --

Use of federal law enforcement resources to target undocumented immigrants for criminal prosecutions may have serious consequences for public safety. The greater focus on criminal violations of immigration laws has led to fewer resources to investigate and prosecute dangerous crimes. At the same time that the Bush administration dramatically increased federal prosecutions for illegal entry and reentry of the United States, the government’s prosecution of gun trafficking, public corruption, organized crime and white-collar crime declined. See Solomon Moore, “Study Shows Sharp Rise in Latino Federal Convicts,” New York Times (Feb. 18, 2009).

Yeah. So these people are advocating the persecution of undocumented immigrants who are less likely to commit crimes than documented Americans (and yes, there is plenty of data from both the FBI and the Census Bureau confirming this) at the expense of dealing with real federal crimes. Why am I not surprised that people like this are aligned with Donald Trump?

I have some news for members of the united states armed forces who feel like they are pawns in a political game and their assignments being unnecessary.

“Rubber bullets were designed for ricochet fire” is a nice and convenient lie but it’s still a lie.

Not to get all “the purpose of a system is what it does” on main but the purpose of a system is what it does and rubber bullets maim people while obfuscating the issue just enough to sound plausibly deniable to disengaged liberals.

Nobody who was involved in designing, marketing, distributing, training, and using these things actually thinks they’re going to use them this way. It’s a legal fiction. You see shit like this all the time with police equipment. Like how the company that makes tasers fabricated an entire fake medical condition so they could say people were killed by “excited delirium” instead of having high voltage AC passed through their bodies repeatedly.

It’s the cop equivalent of “for tobacco use only.” Don’t do their PR for them.

Something that always bothered me about this explanation also is that no one who parrots it thinks about how much harder it is to aim at the ground and hope you get it to ricochet at the precise angle than it is to just aim and shoot directly. Plus a lot of "rubber bullets" out there in use now are actually made of harder materials or are metal coated with rubber. Seems like that makes it obvious the intent is maiming.

If you're heading to a protest tomorrow, it's important to know your rights. Consult this information from the ACLU. Be peaceful. Be safe. Be careful. Be strong.
